In 1997 - our first flag - we were handed the cup by .... John Nicholls.
In 1998 - going back to back - we were handed the cup by .... Royce Hart.

So based on that logic, the best person to hand the cup over to Freo would be some Victorian.

Perhaps Shane McInnes?

Brisbane's three premierships were presented by VFL champs as well, as were West Coast's first two.

Grimace or Clive.

Yeah, glad they've changed it to be more relevant.

I'd go with Brian Peake. Hall of Famer this year, East Fremantle legend whose son was the first F/S pick up the Dockers had.

I would like to see it be someone with an association to FFC. Clive is the obvious answer there.

Second choice would be a WAFL champion with some association to Fremantle. I'd like Stephen Michael, but my recollection is that Clem Michael was not too happy with FFC when he left, so I don't know how relations are between the club and the Michael family.

What I would not like to see is a WA great with no association to Fremantle wheeled out by the AFL. The Ross Glendinning suggestion takes us down that track. If we're going to have someone not associated with the club, it may as well be a random Victorian, not the "well he's West Australian, so the Freo fans are bound to like him" answer. So let's get Plugger. Or Warwick Capper. I'm sure Capper would be available.

Peter Bell would be a good choice if not for the fact the Dockers initially sacked him because they thought he wasnt good enoughand packed him off to North where he won a flag, before recruiting him back again. If you want a past Dockers player then maybe you cant get any better choice.

Brian Peake would be a good choice too, a name synonymous with Fremantle (also a family connection with the Dockers).

Perhaps a collective of Milne Montagna Gilbert Riewoldt Fisher could hand the cup to Dawson....

All jokes aside it should be both Damien Drum and Gerard Neesham. The amount of laughter these 2 guys provided me while watching docker games will not be forgotten.

From AFL circles, Peter Bell is the obvious pick. Ben Allan too, especially with his dual citizenship between the two grand finalists. Don't know who did the presentations for Adelaide's wins, but it was only from 2004 onwards that people relevant to the winning club appear to have been selected:

2004 - John Cahill (Port Adelaide)
2005 - Paul Kelly (Sydney)
2006 - Glen Jakovich (West Coast)
2012 - Bob Skilton (South Melbourne)

Bob Davis 'presented' the cup to Geelong in 2009, but I'm drawing a blank on the other two...I'm thinking maybe Doug Wade in 2011?

I say 'presented' because Tom Harley practically had to wrestle it out of the great man's hands; he just didn't want to let it go. I reckon I'll still remember that moment from time to time 40 years from now and smile about it.

As for Fremantle, I thought Peter Bell was the obvious choice, but maybe McManus or Hasleby would be more appropriate...a battler who got the most out of himself, or an exceptional young talent who gamely battled on to have a fine career, after injuries threatened to destroy him.

Yes, I was just referring to non-Victorian clubs though.

I think 2004 must've been the first year they decided to have a person relevant to whichever club won.

The Bob Davis presentation was a wonderful one. One of my favourite GF moments.
