Who should be the Saints new Senior coach?

He won't be sacked, nor should he be sacked.

But it gives Bigfooty something to talk about, I guess.

Out of curiousity why shouldn’t he be?

Nothing against Richardson at all - I quite like the way he speaks and has a good head on his shoulders. But he has been there for five years and one could argue they are worst then they have ever been. Massively stagnated, players have regressed.

There are not many coaches who would be given the leeway he has without a single finals game.

Caracella an obvious choice. Leigh Tudor is one who should be looked at as well, has been a very good assistant for a while now.

Stick with him or risk becoming a Carlton or Richmond (pre Hardwick), i.e, if anything goes wrong, sack the coach type mentality. Richardson is a very good communicator. Saints are going through a tough period. It happens to all clubs rebuilding

He's contracted until 2020. It would be irresponsible to throw around the money required to pay out his contract. Should we have signed him for that long? Probably not, but the deal is done.

I don't think we've regressed in the five years. We were really bad five years ago. Richo's first season in charge we took out the wooden spoon.

I'm not optimistic about this season, or next season. But I think most of the blame falls on how we've drafted, not the coach.

St Kilda are at the lowest ebb in their history?
Complete nonsense.

Their list lacks some A grade talent, which is clear. You need your early draft picks for these usually and I guess Billings and McCartin (looking better the last few weeks) haven't come on as they'd hoped.

I really like Acres, Ross and Gresham. Clark and Coffield look like they'll be players.

They haven't been performing to expectations but it's round 6 ffs. They haven't been getting shellacked every week and the last couple of weeks have been better. The coach is contracted until 2020. Re-assess at the end of the year.

Only someone with no knowledge of St Kilda's history could suggest that "they are the worst they've ever been". The Saints have collected 27 wooden spoons since joining the competition, including 6 consecutive spoons from 1897-1902 (they also claimed the spoon in 1904). Richo has been in charge for 5 years, and only "won" 1 spoon in that time. Richo may be a dismal coaching failure, but history suggests that things could be a lot worse for the Saints.

How much is due to drafting, and how much due to poor player development? The latter is the coach's responsibility.
