I agree e maniac: the hierarchy won't allow anybody to run the club who has extremist views such as doing whatever it takes to win a premiership. Clarko won't get a look in. Also looks like all candidates not in finals have been interviewed - deduce Chocco won't get a look in either. Puce - ie not even vanilla

West Coast formally inquired with Hawthorn about the position of coach Alastair Clarkson three weeks ago and were told that Clarkson was contracted and unavailable.

Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox was contacted by Eagles' chief executive Trevor Nisbett and asked whether Clarkson was available. Fox told Nisbett that Clarkson was contracted and very much required at Hawthorn.
...
The Eagles are taking their time in finding a new coach, and can speak in depth to the likes of Simpson and Sumich - who are heavily involved in their clubs' grand final preparations - next week.

I'm concerned when they say we are motivated by Freo's success. That's pathetic that it takes something like that to motivate us. It's something Freo (pre the Lyon era) would have said.
We aren't

I said this on the main board and i'll say it again. I'd be very surprised if we went and got Clarkson, Its just not how we operate these days, not with the hierarchy that said Woosha could keep the coaching job as long as he wants while we were having one of our worst seasons ever. We also just upgraded 3 rookies to the main list without a new coach having his say (or maybe not ;)). Burns will probably get the job, the same drafting & development staff will stay and we'll get similar results to the last few seasons. We might see a bit of improvement with a better draw next year and then we'll fade away again. Welcome to Freo 95-2010 style management. ;)

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by us constantly upgrading rookies? How are we going to get ahead when we only take 3 cracks at the national draft. Sure some of the rookies are performing ok, but we know their limitations (and there are often many), so why not leave them on the rookie list for another year and take a chance at the draft. A lot of the rookies we upgrade just end up being delisted/no good/traded anyway...
2010: promoted Lewis Stevenson, Callum Wilson and Andrew Strijk. Fail, fail, fail. Although not much talent in draft after these guys were promoted (dahlhaus and mullet in rookie draft tho). Drafted Gaff, Darling, Lycett and Brennan
2011: promoted Hams (63). Pass, just. Sutcliffe, Laird, Marley Williams, Biggs,Sam Gibson were still available. (Drafted Newman, McInness)
2012: promoted Brad Dick (79). Fail. Its probably too soon to assess players still available at this time because it's mostly rookies who haven't had a chance to play yet. (Drafted Colledge,Carter,Hutchings)
2013: promoted McGovern, Tunbridge and Bennell. 3 of them, really? Look how well that turned out last time

And it's just occurred to me that this on the wrong thread

I don't think there's any shame in that. I for one think we do need to somewhat follow the Fremantle midfield model.

Cransberg would not discuss which candidates were being interviewed.

"I'm pretty sure there will be some very good candidates," he said.

What the ****? It's only our senior coach we are looking for here, I would hope we are looking at some 'good candidates'. And what is with the secrecy on who we are looking at? It'll be the same 5-6 guys every club who was/is looking for a coach will be.

Why does it annoy you so much? Of course there are going to be 'good candidates', pretty sure they wont just pick names out of a hat to interview.

Lol, he's pretty sure? F*k me our board sounds hopeless. Stamp your authority on the competition, let clubs know you will be interviewing all candidated, contracted or otherwise.
