Who will play finals? Who won't?

While I ackowledge upfront that this thread is ridiculously premature, I'm going to go out on a limb and nominate 6 teams who will not play finals this season, and 4 sides who will.

I reckon I've seen enough from a few sides to draw a line through them, while you can pencil a few in for September action.

WILL PLAY FINALS:
Melbourne
St. Kilda
WCE
North Melbourne

WON'T PLAY FINALS:
Hawthorn
Richmond
Collingwood
Essendon
Sydney
Carlton

Brisbane, Port, Geelong, Freo, Bulldogs and Adelaide can fight it out for the 4 other finals spots, with Brisbane, Port and Geelong + 1 most likely.

While I think Hawthorn and Richmond have outperformed Brisbane, Fremantle and Port so far, I just don't think those Vic sides have the staying power, while the interstaters will bounce back at some stage.

I'm sure you'll feel free to disagree.....

Before you respond with "You're a tool/moron" or "You're ignorant" or "You have no credibility" (some BigFooty classics taught to the "Special Kids" in Remedial Sledging), just pause to consider what would be required for any of the 6 'non-finals' sides to improve enough to play finals. It won't happen.

The 4 sides sides earmarked for top 8 status are pretty safe as well. North have already won 5 games. Things would have to go pear-shaped in a big way for them to miss finals.

So before you take the line of "This thread is pathetic/bullsh*t/a waste of time", just consider whether or not the above prognostications appear remotely accurate.

I ackowledge this thread is premature, but I make no apologies for wanting to call the trends early. If you think they're wide of the mark, let's hear about it, but please, don't weigh in as a naysayer just for the sake of it.

Have you watched the Swans in the last two weeks? They're a rabble.

As for the Eagles, well yeah, I mean we're still a 50-50 prospect.

Geelong will definitely play finals.

North... we have a 6 week period that will define our year. I'll let you know at the half way mark if we will play finals or not. We play the vast majority of our interstate games within the next 8 weeks, those are much tougher than normal and despite having confidence in our ability to travel to most of those venues it can do a lot of confidence damage to lose a string of games.

I'm not 100% sure we will play finals.... yet.

Geelong have their first of eight home games at Skilled Stadium next week. Based on their record there last year, they'd only have to win another away from Geelong to guarantee they'll play finals already. I'd lock them in.

DEFINITE FINALS TEAMS

WCE: Wont drop too many this year, massive advantage at home. If they get a home final for rd 1 and win they will get a home prelim final and that would put them into the big one. Can they win in Melb? The lions upset the dons in 2001. They proved there power in melb from then onwards. The challenge for the eagles is to get a home final

SAINTS: Bloody good team, so talented and versatile. Just cant write them off, always pull off a massive one- like against melb who are no slouches

DEES: Will get it together this year and break the trend of good year, bad year. Can be damaging a the G

LIONS: as bad as they were against hawthron, they are good and they will be competitive. Probably play a prelim final in melb. Too good

WHO WONT PLAY?

FREO: Again, they are insipid away but good at subi. JUst not yet, maybe later but not this year

CARL: too young and still need experience. there good and getting better but they wont do it this year

DOGS: Just miss out, will run out of puff

TIGERS: not this year but expect this from 2007 onwards

Im still very confident that welk make finals and maybe even sneak into the top 4

I dont think ul need to win as many games as u have in the past to make top 4 .. I rekn 14 and half wins might sneak us into top 4
