Who would Buckley prefer to coach, North or Richmond?

If Buckley was smart he'd spend time as an assistant at one of the cutting edge clubs (in terms of tactics) & wait until Malthouse gets the flick.

Yepp sure..but we're dealing with our man Bux ...he's a leader of men, a winner..a man in a hurry that has earnt respect...Sydney to Hobart coz its a challenge, climb Mt Everest can't sit still type..can't sit on the bench even for a minute coz he'll get bored and need a challenge

Hasnt changed since he was first drafted..mapped his own course from 17 and couldnt giveashit about what might be the right process or what anyone thought even back then.

Besides u dont need to do what others do when u have the media touting a line that you're a gun coach...so why fart arse about learning the ropes like a mortal ? May as well just do the top job.

I did say if he was smart Bollox. ;)

Actually I reckon Sydney would be the perfect destination as an assistant. Would be learning from one of the best

Maybe.
The Longmire thing is more the real story i reckon...press arnt hungry for that tho coz he doesnt sell. Cant be easy to just continue to play second fiddle and be "behind the scenes guy" when u can see what u must have always wanted vacant right now. He'll have all his mates (esp north mates) telling him he will never ever get this opportunity again and they'd be right too. Alright to be promised things by the boss but comes a time and he's been here a fair while.

geeezus i hope we dont lose both coaches over the next two yrs whilst having the worst list we've had for 10yrs. Might happen tho

Where's David King these days ? He'd be another sticking his hand up wouldnt he ? Not enough press in him either.

Brayshaw is still desperate for street cred as the wannabe eddie...and Arrocca has gone out of his way to MAKE a bit of turnoil out of nothing over the last year...whilst calling the press in over nothing.

I cannot believe that anyone takes Brayshaw seriously...he's a kid in a candy shop and probably cant believe how well he's doing...and he's been able to get exactly what he wanted through total bullshit and still noone has brought him to task over it.

A nice all encompassing media driven ego will always see any press as good press..for HIM and cant hurt the club.

North might be much better served taking advantage of the coaching situation to get rid of Brayshaw at the same time.

Afterall all he's done for North is buy himself a flash new home...u'd keep Arrocca though coz he's a good man that runs a tight shipn and genuinely works for the club. A damn good president that isnt just interested in his own image could be helpful tho.

............ obsessed much? Stay on topic fool.

Gary Lyon is just as good a coach as Nathan Buckley...i know this coz noone has a bloody clue even if Buckey can coach in the first place...both have media as their coaching cred.
I can remember a big deal being made at the time about how Buckley had spent so much time in the coaches box in 06-07 whilst struggling with his hamstring that he had 'already done an apprenticeship'. It doesn't seem to be getting a run in the media at the moment but I'm sure clubs would be considering it.

There's also the fact that while Nathan Buckley offers up interesting and original opinion both in print and on the airwaves, Gary Lyon talks a tremendous amount of crap in all three mediums. Then again, on the basis of Voss' performance in the media you wondered how he'd last a year at Brisbane - and not only is he exceeding expectations, in front of the microphone he now sounds intelligent and professional.

Richmond need a Mark Williams type of coach if they are going to have any chance of moving forward some time soon. There is a very real possibility he will be availiable, and the Tigers should throw whatever is neccessary out there to get him. A hardened, blue- collar coach, who not only knows what it means to be successful, but will accept no "shit" from his players or the organisation. Reading between the lines, a fresh start at a Melbourne club is what he wants, and it will only succeed in revitalising his proven ability as a coach.

Don't get duped into a decision Tigers based on what the media says and/or wants you to do, do the smart thing for once, if the opportunity presents itself.
Im hoping we get your boy.Ken Hinkley:D

not exactly the premium choices are they ? the coaches graveyard and a club not paying the full salary cap.

north is easily the better option and the declaration on last night's footy show that richmond plan to set a new world record for the longest, most convoluted interview process would seal the deal.

the idea of an endless process of shrinks and consultants organised by insecure officials would deter anyone.

good luck to him, whatever he chooses but i'd hate see him thrown on the ex-tiger coaches scrapheap.

he'll go to north.

I wouldn't want him for anywhere near the figure thats being bandied around. We don't need to invest 800k on a bigshot coach like Bucks, mark williams etc, we need to pour about half of that into our footy department infrastructure to give our next coach more support and resources at his disposal.

The idea that North have put $800k on the table for Buckley is a myth - JB made that clear on Footy Classified on Monday. The media invented that number.

yeah perhaps, but there's no doubt in my mind he'll command a lot more than another first time head coach like hinkley, hardwick, longmire would. From our POV, we need more development coaches and less outlay on the main coaches wage, so would rather the extra 2-300k he will get to go into that side of things.

That makes sense. I would suggest North are in a similar boat (critical to ensure adequate resources put towards development coaches).

However, Buckley would probably be worth the extra money to North (maybe not 2-300k, but certainly 1-200k) because of the off-field stuff. This extra outlay would likely be recouped (and probably then some) in the additional revenue generated through increased membership and sponsorship you would expect Buckley could attract to a club like North.

He'd probably have a similar effect at Richmond, but perhaps not as great an increase, simply because North are starting from a lower base.

Interesting to note that according to the HUN, Buckley rates Richmonds youngsters better than the Roos youngsters on exposed form.

I don't think it means much in the overall scheme of things, but it doesn't hurt that a prospective coach rates your list, based on what he has seen, as better than the opposition.

If William's go's i think Buck's will go to port.

Would be a good fit for both. Port's list looks better than both north or Richmond's

Will be less presure from the media and he played some junior football there if i remember correctly

Doubt it. Hardwick will go to port and Chocco and Bucks will get either the North or Richmond job.
