Who's Hot and Who's Not? 2009 Dream team smokies and duds?

Handy bench player, maybe, but definitely not a cash cow. In 13 years Presti has only averaged above 30 once (in 2006, when he averaged a whopping 30.5 ).

That is an incredible stat, Virgil you have made my decision to leave him out an easy one!

thanx for the hwelp wiht brown
but does anyone know any inside information bout skipworth and how many games he will get

Should play most games. Won Essedon's reserves B&F last year. He averaged 60ish+ in a boring Crows team. So for $196k is a lock in my team from day 1. His stocks will rise.

I wouldn't lock in Skipworth just yet. He is at a very awkward price and his spot in the team is not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination. Kicked 2 goals and had something like 7 tackles, personally I don't think he is a 40goal and/or 100tackle player over the year so his points he scored on Friday are significantly inflated. Reason being in 44 games he has only kicked 22 goals and in the same number of games has a total of 92 tackles.

Raph Clarke did manage to average a tick over 70 last year, but only played 11 games (rds 1-3, 7-8, 20-PF). Since 2005 the number of games he has played per year is; 16,5,8,11
There is a big question mark as to his scoring potential, but the biggest question mark is his durability, especially for the fact he is known for playing games in small chunks then missing chunks then playing small chunks. Someone like Burton last year was worth the risk because he seems to play 10/11/12 games in a row before being injured as opposed to less then a handful of games like Raph. There are the same big question marks over Xavier Clarke although he did manage 22 games in 2003. Since then has played 57% of H&A games (63/110).
Personally the Clarke brothers are usually 2 of the first players I cross off in pre-season.

I think that raph clarke will be a good DTmer this year because of the last 6 games he played last year. 71 81 85 64 101 108 I think he will be in the best 22 this year and had a solid Nab cup game. He is a good price.

(i understand X clarke)

Also the ball will be in St Kilda's defensive half for most of the season, so he'll be near it.

??? St kilda still have a pretty good midfield, and i think this reasoning is a bit flawed really unless your looking at a team like melbourne. Just my opinion though - i wouldnt let something like this influence my decision at all, especially as i see saint kilda having a pretty similar year to every year - making the finals, but not challenging top teams much.

Virgil's top forwards of 2009*

  1. Paul Chapman
  2. Matthew Pavlich
  3. Brett Deledio
  4. Daniel Giansiracusa
  5. Matthew Richardson
  6. Lance Franklin
  7. Nick Riewoldt
Honourable mentions to Steve Johnson, Alan Didak, Brent Harvey and Jonathon and Nathan Brown.

* Subject to change at the drop of a hat/twang of a hammy.

Deledio? It depends where he plays. If he plays off the half back he will get a lot, if he plays forward I don't think he will get as much.

I picked Deledio last year from round 1. I made the DT Grand Final and for the first time made him my captain, he scored 280 points and won me the game:D, that game he played forward pocket rotating on the ball.

Further updates:

Van Berlo at the Crows is out for 4 weeks with a tear in something in the sole of his foot:eek:. Will be on crutches for 2 weeks and then a slow build up running.

Maxwell could be watching from the sidelines for the first few rounds:D

Leaping Leo isn't leaping much at the momement and looks set for a late start.

O'Louchlin has just started running after a long rehab from ankle surgery.

Waters has had another operation on his dislocated elbow from 8 months ago (yes that elbow injury who many said was crap and the Eagles were tanking resting him:mad:)

Ebert at the Eagles has started running after off season groin surgery, they say he'll be right for round 1 but I think it will take up to round 6 before he will get enough km's in his legs and thats with no mishaps.

Update 124:D

Ben Rutten has had key hole surgery on his knee. Reported as 'just a clean up' of cartlige but it will see him restricted for the remainder of the preseason.

Massive hole to be filled early on at he Crows, if he's up for round 1 he won't be 100% fit thats for sure.

not a dream team big scorer but very important the the Crows structure.

What's everyone's thoughts on the Chad this year? Obviously a gun when on song, particularly great as he plays back in DT however, he had some pretty full on injuries that got the better of him late last year and I don't know if we've maybe seen the best he can offer already....

Get him if you are going for a league win.

Don't get him if you are going for overall points.

Lol... I think Deledio has well and truly established himself as a great midfield option... he will rotate through the midfield (and hence floating across half back a bit) and forward, just like last year. And when he goes forward, he kicks goals and still scores heavily.

Although, if some tragedy occurs and our whole forward line goes down, then he might have to provide a focal point up forward... knocking on wood there.

what do you guys think about...
Chad Cornes
Gilbee
Hayes
Giansiricusa
Adcock
and cousins??

will they score big this year? and is malceski worth getting?

Chad is a lock imo. He has proved that he is a superstar in dt and is extremely cheap for his standards.

Gilbee - I never really liked him as a dt'er. He is more of a SC type. He will average between 70-80 imo.

Hayes - DT gun. He is very consistent and is quite unique because not many will be picking him.

Giansiricusa - You can't possibly go wrong with this bloke. He is super consistent and will average over 90 for sure.

Adcock - Tough one. He had a tremendous 2007 but dropped off in 2008 when he was moved into the midfield. Hard to know how he will be used with a new coach.

Cousins - I am staying away from him atm. I would rather Gibbs who is only 20K extra. He hasn't played footy in about two years so it is hard to tell. I am waiting for him to drop a little and then I will pounce.

Malceski - I picked him up. He had a brilliant 2007 and I can't see why he can't back it up. He trained the house down during pre season for the swans. He may be back to his best. He is worth the risk for someone who is less than 300K because you know that he will make you some money.

What was Adcocks average last year do you know?? i have picked him up in the backline for 313k so could make me some money iw as thinking.

I am thinking pendelberry for cousins atm because only about 25k more.

what do you think of nathan brown (rich) in foward line?? risk?

and lockeyer in backline?
