OK, now I want Roos, but things are going to have to change.... Money at the club is obviously a major problem.

I took the below picture at the GABBA today about a hour before the game.

Harvs was in the queue at the coffee shop near gate 2.

I have so many questions about this.... here are the main.

a) Is money that bad we can't supply the coaches with a decent cup of coffee on game day.

or

b) I am a manager in real life, and if I wanted a coffee, my assistant would duly be sent, just like they are sent when I want some lunch, have the need for some fresh fruit, or need to pay some bills at the Post Office* Based on this, where the heck was Murray Davis or Shane Woewodin??

Obviously this is all tongue in cheek, but I guess Harvey likes to get away for a few minutes and clear his head before he goes into game-coach mode.

To put two and two together and make four and a half, I wonder if this might contribute to our better starts over the past fortnight? Players can be very sensitive to the head coach's mood. If he's intense and determined, as Voss seems to be a lot of the time, maybe it makes them nervous? If Harvey is consciously trying to be calm and collected, perhaps the players are more settled.

Something of a long bow, of course.

* I really don't do that... I mean I tried once, but I got told in no uncertain terms that there was no chance in hell. Truth be told, my assistant runs the place, I just take the credit when things go well.
Just checking out the ladies thats all.:)

LEIGH Matthews has put boardroom politics aside and agreed to join the panel that will select the Brisbane Lions' next senior coach.
It is understood the four-time premiership coach - three with the Lions - will join a panel that already includes his former teammate Peter Schwab.

Matthews has joined a ticket that includes directors Paul Wiliiams and Mick Power, the pair that have challenged the board.

It is understood the challenge will continue but Matthews has decided to lend his experience to the selection panel so work can begin on identifying a replacement for recently-sacked Michael Voss.

An announcement is expected shortly.

Excellent, some credibility, this is going to work.

This shows to me that he must Love our club and just wants it to get it's S*^+ together no matter what.

I had a dream that Browny was given a five year contract, one as a player then onto coaching as the assistant under someone who I can't remember (possibly roos).

You heard it here first ;)

Random question:

Has Mark Harvey said that the doesn't want to be a senior coach anywhere next year, or just that he doesn't want to be a senior coach at Brisbane or Essendon?

Is it possible that he has a job lined up elsewhere?

He specifically said he wants to only be a senior assistant in the future. Doesn't want a head role anywhere.

He's only said no to 11% of the possible head coach jobs thus far, you're correct. However that's 100% of the jobs he's been linked to.

He was asked about the Melbourne job back in June. He just seems to have fallen off the radar for that role, rather than specifically rule himself out.

Jude Bolton could be a good addition as an assistant coach, especially if we can't get Black on the coaching panel for whatever reason.

Senior coach update
August 26, 2013

The Brisbane Lions’ Senior Coach selection process will continue to progress after receiving approval from all Club Directors.

Brisbane Chairman, Angus Johnson, today sought a resolution from the Board to continue with the process, with all Directors approving its official commencement.

The process includes the appointment of a sub-committee, to be chaired by Dean Warren, the Lions’ General Manager – Football Operations.

The other members of the sub-committee are Lions CEO, Malcolm Holmes, Lions Physical Performance Manager and retired Adelaide Crows star, Brett Burton, and independent panel members, former Lions’ Premiership-winning coach, Leigh Matthews, AFL Coaching Director, Peter Schwab, and AFL Coaches’ Association Operations Manager, Paul Armstrong. Armstrong will sit on the panel as a non-voting member.

Burton's involvement to me is stupid. I agree with everybody else's role, but you have basically got someone who should be working for, or at most equal with, the senior coach helping to select him.

He did have experience as president of AFLPA but yeah, it's just weird that he is involved at a decision at the club her is currently working at. Where is the separation of powers? Where is the... dare I say it... governance.

Also laughed that the article felt it was worth mentioning he won Mark of the Year.

Yeah, he is probably qualified as would say a Luke Ball/Luke Power type, but doesn't make sense with his position in the club.

Throw some money at Harvey. Coached the NAB cup and won. Coached the last two games and won. Oddly enough when he coaches we win!!!! Bring in Leppa or Lappin to assist. And take over in two or three years.
Harvey knows the squad and the players seem to play for him.
Based on this, should we get fletch or woey to take the reigns this weekend in order to keep harves perfect record? ;)

I actually like the idea of having one of the current coaching staff involved with the decision. I reckon it gives an interesting perspective as to how potential candidates will work with existing staff members.

I'd prefer at least one more genuinely external person on that committee, but overall I think it's a good mix of interests.

We might not be able to get the senior coach we want but perhaps we can aggressively poach a couple of highly rate assistants to bring to the club. Similar to what Port did with Richardson.
