I don't want Harvey. I want a fresh approach.
I want fresh eyes bringing a fresh game plan that doesn't involve massive first quarter floggings. Harvey looked tired and emotional. If he is appointed then we are getting what Vossy offered without the Vossy. No thanks. New wish list.

1) Clarko/Woosha
2) Tudor or Williams

probs need harvey a new coach will bring in a new game plan and will take a longer time for us to adapt and may put the brakes on our development

Getting thoroughly sick of the Will He or Wont He Sideshow.

Maybe FoxFooty should do what ESPN did with LeBron James

Port did OK with a new coach...

I hope Woosha coaches us. He's by far the most credentialed candidate available
Really?
I don't get the interest in Worsfold. Oversaw the Ben Cousins drug era, did manage to drag his team from bottom back into finals last year but did lose them again this year.
Some say it will be a good change for him because he needs it. I say how about we don't take on someone who looks emotionally drained from carrying around a heap of personal baggage.
Would be good for him to reinvigorate?
We're not a counselling service or halfway house for divorcees. He can sort his shit out at home thanks.
Don't care if that sounds harsh, we need a coach who is clear minded and focused on the job at hand.
I don't want us to merely provide a distraction for some emotionally run down bloke who mightn't have his contract renewed due to poor performance.

I'm worried about his off field issues and apparent burn out. We need someone energetic and hungry to lead a young team forward, not someone who is fried and stressed from the past few years. That said, if he is indeed fine I'd have no problem with him.

I'm pretty sure we are going to end up with a Craig/assistant type set up.

I am thinking a person like Voss who has everything settled at home and is a Club champion to boot.
Oh
Oh
:(

Justin Leppitch for me now that Roo's has gold fever.

I am a fan of this but just can't see it happening. Even if the board wanted him or went after him would he come home to roost after they way they treated Voss? This is the problem the board, imo, has created for us in that most people will look at it and think if this is the way they treated their favourite son how will they treat me?

This is why I think Lethal on the panel and potentially on the board is important. If anyone can overcome this feeling in a former club great it is Leigh Mathews. I'm all for Leppa or Nigel Lappin coming back, although I agree with a point someone made sometime ago that this job is 8 parts coaching and football management and 2 parts selling the game in a growing market. Not sure if Nige is the right guy for this.

So you want a coach with a "brand". C'mon, our coach needs to be practical first and sexy last.

God help us if we appoint Neil Craig...his pre game interview on Fox with Healy and Frawley was just so unimpressive. He himself has questioned whether he wants to be a senior coach and that being the case, why on earth would we be interested.

He was a great coach during the mid/late 2000s though. Remember how good the Crows were under him during 2005/2006?

Nope, I agree that success is the best sales pitch - Lions rode on the coattails of those three premier premierships for years afterwards but the brand has been hammered lately. I'd take either Leppa or Lappin as our senior assistant under Harvs with an eye for them to take over, but I do worry sentimentality is clouding my judgement.

I have been an avid fan of Paul Roos ever since I saw his first game with the Roys. So I was hoping that the Fitzroy connection, the overtures made to him by the club in recent years to re-join the fold, the fact that many other Fitzroy players from his era and earlier have embraced the Club, not to mention his friendship with Lynchy etc, would have engendered some real affection for our club. But it's pretty clear to me that he really has no affinity with the Brisbane Lions at all.
I struggle to think it is the money because I reckon we would probably have matched Melb's offer, and if you believe him it never got to the stage of talking money anyway. But maybe that's being naive. Can't believe Brisbane is such an unappealing place to live for a few years while earning big bucks. I don't sense he yearns to return to the city of Melb. Maybe it's the Board in-fighting, or lack of trust in the Club's admin generally. But leaving Johnson's recent performances to one side, not sure why Melb's admin is any better perceived on that score - everything they touch turns to stone.
Might be lack of talent in our football department, but then again he would bring his own team in and most of our coaches seem to be on contracts at or near their end. Can't be our finances, both clubs are broke. Can't possibly be our list when compared to Melb's, or our potential.
He said on On the Couch that there were some personal issues to resolve which he will talk about in due course, maybe all will be revealed in coming days. Overall, sadly, I'm now convinced he was never going to be a good match for us primarily because he doesn't want to be here.

There is no way we can match the money being offered, and I think his family simply aren't interested in moving to Beisbane. To get back into coaching, he isn't doing it for a year or two, its for a decent term, both Brisbane and Melb would want him for 5 years min I would say. End of the day, I don't think they want to live here for that long.

He still has an affinity to the Lions and always will. I've heard him speak about his days at Fitzroy and how much they mean to him and the relationship is still there, he mentioned how when he sees the Lions of today (albeit the Brisbane variety) play in the Fitzroy jumpers of his time how it gets him going. Unfortunately through financial necessity we had to part with him and allow another club to enjoy his influence and haven't they done all right out of it.

It's really a complex issue, a first and foremost he's happy doing what he's doing. He's still heavily involved in the game, gets paid good coin, but without the stress of being the man in the hotseat. Like all of us his parents are ageing and there are other family issues to consider wife, kids entering adulthood etc. He may coach Melbourne, but he won't do it in spite of us, it's purely a logistics excercise.

He is one of the few people involved at that level that haven't changed one jot from the young fellow running VFL player camps in the Fitzroy zone in the 80's. I will always remain an avid fan of a true Fitzroy legend.

He is a sports scientist, not a coach.

Personally I think the best option available for our club now is Voss, but he has been sacked.

Worsfold I think needs a break, I would be concerned if we signed him now.

And a fresh coach, well they say its a bout a 3 to 5 year apprenticeship these days and thats what Voss had and he knows the players.

I think Malcolm needs to come out and say who these better options he had when he spoke at the press conference.

He bet the house on Roos, and he lost, time to send him packing.

So, I think this is where it's at?

Roos - out
Harvey -out
Worsfold - very unlikely - actively seeking Eagles reappointment and has never been linked to Brisbane or anywhere else I think
Clarkson - very unlikely - wants to stay at Hawks

That leaves Williams, Craig and Ratten as experienced AFL senior coaches that are available and haven't actually ruled themselves out. Ayres too if you want to include him. Not a hugely exciting bunch. Williams probably the pick but if the leadership group ever implements a 'no-dickhead' policy the coach might be the first one out the door.

That seems to leave assistants who are a bit hard to comment on. Without knowing what KPI's Voss apparently didn't fullfill (johnson said he wouldn't discuss it), it's hard to know who could be better or why. A bit depressing really.
