He rides with the enemy now.
Yeah I knew he was at GC but I thought he would be one of the assistants we possibly look at? Leppa and Lappin have had their names thrown out there with previous ties to the club but Hart seems to be the forgotten man...

Wallsy nailed what has disappointed me about the whole thing.

People can trot out the "he had 5 years" cliche but ultimately I agree with Walls that the board never lived up to their obligations to provide Voss with the resources he needed and consequently set him up to fail.

Agree completely. Also, am I correct in remembering that Walls was involved in the last review of Voss so would be pretty intimately informed about what was going on behind the scenes?

When the club spends only 92.5% of the salary cap and you know the board isnt 100% behind you, that makes for pretty difficult working conditions.

Really could be a quick fix, sack Angus (I accidentally wrote Anus then, somehow that seemed so much more correct), rehire Voss, move on the guys who dont want to be here (longer, polec, karnezis).

Better than having a board stoush, hiring Craig and all the players leave anyway

It's interesting when you put it in perspective. Hird, the senior coach of one of the 'big 4', who has excellent funding and facilities "mucks up big time". He drags the club through the mud for an entire season, arguably breaches the duty of care he owed to his players and as a consequence the club is fined, loses draft picks and is taken out of the finals. Result he's given a 2 year contract extension.

Vossy has had limited resources. Made a big mistake in 2010 but since then had begun rebuilding the club to where it stands today - with a promising young group who finished just out of the 8 this year. Sacked.

That's just repeating really what was said in the article. After what TheBrownDog said earlier, if we are to accept that Vossy won't be coming back and if we accept that Roos and Eade are off the table then given the predicament I would actually prefer a Tudor type to step in as the senior coach (2 days ago I was all for the senior / assistant succession plan).

I don't think Voss should have been let go in the manner he was (a knee jerk reaction to get Roos) and I would welcome him back if it were to happen. But if the board will be changing after the EGM/AGM then I think a new senior coach such as Tudor might just be what we need going forward - a fresh start with a focus on providing greater resources and assistance to players and coaching staff (where possible).

I find it difficult to argue against Wallsy's assessment of the Hird Vs Voss scenarios..... remarkable when you compare what has happened to the two of them.

Walls one of the great men of the Brisbane Bears, brilliant article. I was of the opinion well now you have let him go might as well leave it be, but the fact we are interviewing Neil Craig shows me how little is available, so if it can happen, why not, but I would be shocked if it eventuated.

wallsy has put it perfectly.......

There's no review, no discussion, no warning. The Brisbane board didn't have the grace to hold their inept decision for three weeks to allow the club legend to coach out the season.

Why? Because chairman Angus Johnson had some stupid belief that by showing Paul Roos they were serious about getting a new coach, by dismissing the current one, they would convince him to jump on board. By operating as they did, the only thing it convinced Roos to do was to make sure he would not be part of such an amateurish outfit.

The Lions also have the third-youngest list in the AFL; only the Suns and Giants are younger. It should be noted that in the second half of the season, the Lions won seven games and lost four. That's better than West Coast, Adelaide, Carlton and Essendon and is equal to Collingwood and Sydney. All of those teams have better lists and better resources.

There's talk now that Neil Craig could be the new coach. If it is true that Brett Burton, former Crow and current fitness coach at Brisbane, is on the sub-committee to appoint a new coach, then spare me.

as members, why cant we recreate what sydney did to get paul roos? nobody listed as a potential candidate deserves the job more than voss. i hope leigh shares this view.

director of coaching: L. Matthews

Don't shoot the messenger, but Craig has gone from 34.00 to 8.00 in 12 hours on Sportsbet (I put $10 on him at $34). I hope your lads enjoy cycling!

Settle down. It just reflects the media reporting. Roos was $1.40 to us 2 weeks ago. Tudor came in from the clouds into $4.00. I think the odds are largely meaningless until after the interviews where leaks may actually mean something.

I've also got $15.00 on Craig at $34 for emotional compensation just in case.

You keep believing TBD! :rainbow:

Some of the logic of this thread seems to be everytime a coach's odd shorten they suddenly have the job.

Coach won't be announced till end of September at the earliest, most likely early October, which means they won't even have it down to 2-3 candidates for another 2 weeks.
