Who's the worst coach of all time?

Bloody University.

Worst tankers ever.

Culture.

Actually I've been a bit harsh on Gerry.

Despite that record he was actually signed up as coach of Melbourne in 1920 and returned a 5-11 return for side that went winless the year before. Then he gave it away for good.

That brings him up to 70 matches for a 63-7 record (10%).

In fairness to Gerry, and by the fact that this is probably the first and last time he will ever get mentioned on bigfooty.com, he was an outstanding footballer before trying his luck with the clipboard.

He played 130 matches for Fitzroy, kicked 160 goals and was captain of the team when they lost the grand final to Carlton by 2 points in 1903, before captaining "The Maroons" to back to back premierships in 1904-1905.

The "Best" Worst Coach of All Time would have to go to Peter "Percy" Jones.

He took over a premiership team in 1980. Jezza resigned as the 1979 premiership coach in support of ousted president George Harris.

Percy only lasted the year. David Parkin took over in 1981 & won flags in 1981 & 1982.

Fitzroy played Carlton in Round 22 & we lost by 4 points after trailing by over 50 points. I never forget Percy's comments on World of Sport the day after. He said, "We put Wayne Harmes in the middle of the ground in the last qtr & THINGS started happening. We're not sure what"!!!

Carlton should have won 4 flags in a row.

Gary Ayres. Took the reigns at two different clubs after Malcolm Blight had built both teams up to reach multiple grand finals (and back to back flags in Adelaide's case) and completely gutted both teams.

I wish more posters would actually give some reasons as to why they think the coaches are rubbish. If they did this thread may actually be interesting.

Neesham left Drum with a dud list, Drum's drafting was decent (Pavlich, Haselby, Longmuir etc) however he couldn't resurface a sinking ship.

Harsh

He was an innovator
He started the rotation thing long before any one else. Plus that shepperding
off the ball tactic they used. Yeah tooo many claremont players but they
where very strong WAFL side in those days

Has to be Damien Drum by the length of the Flemington straight. Drafting was reasonable but was an absolute spud of a coach (13 wins and 40 losses).

Peter Rohde and Tim Watson would be up there as well

Totally disagree about Gerard Neesham. He was a Visionary / Revolutionary .. before his time !! The Forward Press / the Flood ... all Gerard Neesham Ideas 15 years ago .. before its time !! Watch Claremont Late 80's early 90's ! Claremont Super Highly Skilled and physically stronger than any other WAFL side. Implemented a game plan that is replicated only now at AFL levels and Standards !!

real Nominees for Worst Coach of All Time :
Damien Dwum
Tim Watson ( Even he admitted he was not cut out to coach )
Chris Connelly
Peter Knights ( Cannot believe I said This )

And Jade Rawlings and Donald MacDonald are lucky are lucky they were only 'Caretaker' Coaches .. otherwise they would be right up there also !!
