Why, all of a sudden do Geelong rate themselves against Hawthorn?

In the overall context of the competition you have, but if you regard the last 25 years in which you have a much better win-loss ratio than us - you still only win 1 out of every 3 times you play us. That has to be a huge mental scar for your side.

Yup. I think Harley, Ling and co. are still hurting over a loss against your side 25 years ago, when Harley was 5 and Ling was 2.

Granted, as winty said though, if you look at the last 5 games Geelong have won 2, the other game was won by 4 points. That would suggest there is little between the two team over the last 4-5 years historically, although both sides have improved dramatically since last year. So it would be fair to say that all bets are off as far as the form guide goes. As for the 'mental scars' I'd say the ones from the Sydney loss in '05 were much greater, but were overcome by winning the flag

Yes, we have a fully functioning forward line, as do you. However yours has probably been exposed this year as either playing above themselves last season or not fully firing this year. Perhaps coaches are manning you up better.

Perhaps. I'd be the first to concede our forward is NOT as good as Hawthorn's. Midfield definitely accounts for a disproportionate amount of goals

In any case your midfield is creating your scoreboard drive. Not a bad situation but not a sustainable one either. Remember West Coke.

I sort of see your point except it was not sustainable as West Coast because two of their best midfielders left. West Coast could have easily contended for the flag last year had it not been for a plethora of issues, including huge injury list. Put simply, there is little chance of us doing a West Coke anytime soon.

In any case, why is midfielders creating scoreboard drive not sustainable?

hawthorn are no more of a threat to geelong than sydney, saints, pies, north, dogs and crows are.Hawthorns beat us last year in round 4,before the richmond game=hence before we were good.

Evewn if they were to beat us in round 17 or if they had of beaten us when we were good last year who cares its nothing more than a fluke.Sides always have a few bad home and away games. There was only 2 sides that beat geelong last year at skilled and they are the same 2 sides geelong smashed by over 100 points in the finals  shows how meaningless some games are.

Individual games in the regular season mean nothing, its all about how you perform over the entire season.Geelong 1st,hawthorn 5th.

Individual games in the finals do matter and geelong win premiership by 119 points, hawks get taught a football lesson by north

So Skilled is now your bogey ground?

nope, i was making the point that the 2 sides that had the best wins against us were the same 2 sides we smashed in the finals by over 100 points. It just shows how individual results in the regular season mean nothing.

It just shows that you are shithouse at your home ground - where is your pride?

This thread was in danger of becoming a coherent discussion about footy.

GC26 to the rescue.

Where is your home ground? Waverley? Tasmania? What a confused little club you have there.

Its ok relocation has been seemingly painless for your club, not surprising since some of your members voted its extinction. Notice how the AFL wont make a team in Tassie? Thats because they already have your club half way there ;)

Nothing will ever shut these Hawk fans up. We could pump them by 20 goals in round 17 and again in the GF. We could hold Buddy goalless in both games. We could dump a steaming number 2 on their heads, and it will not stop them from spouting their anti Geelong propaganda.

This is what happens when you get caught up in delusions of grandeur. You end up existing in an alternate reality.

If a midfield is disciplined enough to corall (sp?) and dominate the corridor and push your mids out wide, the scoreboard pressure dries up

Won't be your midfield doing it then, judging by the discipline your midfield showed on semi final night last year. :D

Recent history shows that even when the Cats were at their best they struggled to compete with a Hawthorn side that was only in the early stages of greatness.

When did you play geelong at their best?

2007 - hawks played the cats in the 1st 5 rounds when they were average it was only after the ordinary start that they decided to play. (1 win for hawks)

2006 - Very ordinary year for cats finished outside the top 8 which is hardly at their best. (2 wins for hawks)

2005 - Cats were good (still not at best) and made the finals. (Geelong have 2 x 9+goal wins)

So when you play geelong at their best you can start making comments like above. So far you have been luckier than other sides and have been able to avoid the cats over the last 12months.

What a pathetic piece of shit response.

Go back and try again.

I've seen that rubbish at least 85 times before GC_26.

Most of it is irrelvant because it's about the VFL, or VFA as it used to be called.

But in anycase, please give me some idea why the reigning premiers got their arse beaten twice on their own dungheap in their premiership year?

But that's when 8 of the Hawks' 9 flags were won.

And the last comment is complete nonsense. Brisbane lost 3 games at the Gabba in 03, Sydney lost 2 games at the SCG in 05 and Eagles lost 4 games at Subi in 06. So that's four out of the last five premiers who've lost at least two games at their home ground during the season. Hardly an embarrassment...

Quite clearly you have comprehension problems. I am referring to the second tier competition, what was the VFA and is now the VFL. Hawthorn did not win premierships in this competition.

It is in response to idiotic claims that Geelong are unbeatable at Skilled. They aren't.

I havent been on Big Footy for long, but GOD DAMN you Hawthorn supporters are arrogant.

Even if you murder Geelong in round 17, nobody will care. . .

. . . its what happens in the last week of September which counts.

Geelong were by far the best team in the competition last year. The Hawks will give them a run for their money this year, but just to shut you Hawk supporters up ... I hope to every God there is, the the CATS ABSOLUTELY RAPE YOU in Round 17.

Kudos to the Cats
Boo, to BigFooty Hawk supporters.
