Why all the 'Saint Hate'?

Players - can't help but admire them. Reiwoldt a star.

Supporters - Preachy, whinging bunch of sooks. Try to portray themselves as the 'Simon the Likeables' of the AFL when, in fact, they are as cocky and arrogant as the rest of us when their team is firing.

I used to not mind if Saint Kilda or Doggies won a premiership... but the arrogrance of SOME (not all) the fans of St Kilda on Big Footy, before even winning the flag leaves a sour taste in my mouth. They don't even come from a winning background like Hawthorn, Essendon & Carlton (whom I love to hate),

Yup some Hawthorn and Geelong fans have been arrogant, but for the most part AFTER their team actually delivered (although I dislike Geelong for similar reasons as disliking St Kilda).

That being said, I would rather a Collingwood or St Kilda premiership, than a Geelong one, because I still loathe them the most.

I'm hoping for a miracle and a Collingwood premiership... don't actually find the Collingwood fans I've run into on BF that bad. Couple of idiots, but they seem to have less than even my club does.

This right here.

Didn't really mind the Saints, it must've been heartbreaking for be a supporter for these past few decades, they probably deserve success after a staggeringly long wait, but geez, the supporters really don't make it easy to feel good for them.
I was responding to one of your fellow supporters. Maybe I should just sit back and cop the crap?

Whereas the Hate for Collingwood ...everyone can put their finger on it :)

And its saints' supporters just like yourself (who has done nothing else but bait people in this thread) that give us the motivation to despise your club. For me it is definately Milne - reminds me of Russell Robertson. Carries on like a monkey on steroids after a goal. Just to pi$$ you off fireman, I hope either the pies or the cats flog your ar$e$ next week. :thumbsu:

People cling to sentimental favourites for who they want to win and they tend to get a bit parochial. Love it or hate it, it is why football is as good as it is because it invokes passion in people.

I didn't care who won, I wanted the best team to win in case the unthinkable happens and Collingwood win tonight, I want the best side through to make sure the Pies don't win.

I would be a bit more confident of Saints beating the Pies than the Doggies, but last night Doggies played a good contested style of footy, just the lack of targets up forward a real concern when the game isn't free flowing.

I'm pretty sure whatever negativity there is comes from the fact that based on one decent year (where, in reality, they were only two games ahead of the next team on the ladder) which is not over yet, quite a number of Saints fans have gone from perennial losers to preachy, irritating, smug, arrogant, entitled @#%^*s who refuse to accept anything other than total adoration of their club whilst sticking the boot into every team that plays them.

The response to last night's game is typical. There are plenty of posts about how 'bad umpiring decisions happen, get over it', but virtually none from Saints supporters which acknowledge that maybe they were a tad lucky. There is the usual pro-Riewoldt w@nkfest, but no mention that one of his goals was from an outrageous free kick and another probably wasn't a goal technically speaking. There have been no posts that I have seen from Saints fans acknowledging that the Dogs had a red hot go and would be really disappointed to have just fallen short. There are no posts from Saints fans acknowledging that they just got over the line against the third placed team on the ladder and that many of their players looked tired and sore towards the end. And, overall, there is a weird assumption that the Saints will just romp it in next week even though there are plenty of reasons to doubt that.

If I supported a club that had won one flag and was presently in the position the Saints find themselves in I would be a hell of a lot more circumspect and respectful of the opposition.

Could you please point out the arrogant Saint supporters on here? You said "some" which ones?
I'm hoping for a miracle and a Collingwood premiership... don't actually find the Collingwood fans I've run into on BF that bad. Couple of idiots, but they seem to have less than even my club does.
You are one sick puppy or just love swimming against the tide.

There is probably a direct correlation between the attitude to a club on BF, and the conduct of their posters. Its human nature. The majority of the saints posters on BF are fantastic intelligent posters. Unfortunately there are a small loud minority(maybe one or two) who annoy the general population. So unfortunately all the saints BF posters gets unfairly tarred with the same brush.

Personally, now that my team cannot win it :(, I would love to see St Kilda win it and break the drought. It would mean a lot to a lot of people, and that is a good thing. Just to imagine supporters witnessing a premiership for the first time is a really heartwarming thought. I can only dream about it.

But if St kilda cannot win it, then Geelong or Collingwood is fine by me. Same principal applies but not as pronounced as St Kildas. The one thing that would really pee me off no end is if GC17 and WS win a premiership soon. What a total waste that would be. That is one year, that a large group of people ie long suffering club supporters, can experience that once in a lifetime moment.

You could never call a Saints fan arrogant....not with our history....strange, weird even a little spooky but not arrogant.

This is exactly the point. They shouldn't be arrogant, but still they are. Even when they were at the depths in the 80s their fans were amongst the most opinionated and arrogant in the league. Many of them seem to believe the world owes them the right to be a great club.

Combined with their awful game style this is more than enough to make me dislike them intensely.

I don't think the pies have either teams measure.

But for me because the Saints are cocky as hell and extremely blind after the match "OH IT WASNT THAT BAD"

pot calling kettle black. after the saints lost two in a row i heard numerous pies supporters saying pies have the granny in the bag. yes there are some arrogent supporters, but most are not.

I was responding to one of your fellow supporters. Maybe I should just sit back and cop the crap?

Cop what crap? He said he didn't like the Saints, thats not a personal affront to you and if you take it that way you probably need to relax a little bit.

If I felt a need to defend my club against everyone who doesn't like them I'd be in the loony bin.

I don't understand why people are acting as if St Kilda are the only ones with arrogant fans?

Lots of Collingwood arrogance and Geelong arrogance, every team has arrogant supporters so berating Saints supporters for being "arrogant" is extremely hypocritical.

Now the St Kilda players are being criticised because they celebrated getting into the Grand Final, I didn't know there were rules on celebrating. There were a few of those players in that team that were there the last time they were in the preliminary finals and lost and this time they got over the line and into the Grand Final for the first time.

I wonder what Collingwood or Geelong supporters will say after one of their teams celebrate in the same fashion the Saints did, there's nothing wrong with it.

I think you'd be in the loony bin if you found somebody that didn't. It is my understanding that The Magpies are proud of the fact that everyone hates them. :p

Personally, i find this a little hypocritical considering the contents on your signature - it also carries on like you'd won the grand final, but it was just anzac day.
Posting something in a signature on an internet forum != celebrating like we've won the GF.

 you seemed to have generalized a bit about these so called smug supporters, which ones ?

The response to last night's game is typical. There are plenty of posts about how 'bad umpiring decisions happen, get over it', but virtually none from Saints supporters which acknowledge that maybe they were a tad lucky.
Is that a normal thing to do?
There is the usual pro-Riewoldt w@nkfest, but no mention that one of his goals was from an outrageous free kick and another probably wasn't a goal technically speaking.
Roo was being knocked over many times , enough was enough and the umpire responded correctly.
There have been no posts that I have seen from Saints fans acknowledging that the Dogs had a red hot go and would be really disappointed to have just fallen short.
There has.
Shame you haven't read my posts before coming out with this.
There are no posts from Saints fans acknowledging that they just got over the line against the third placed team on the ladder and that many of their players looked tired and sore towards the end.
again, why does that worry you? Is that some sort of prerequisite post form the victors.

And, overall, there is a weird assumption that the Saints will just romp it in next week even though there are plenty of reasons to doubt that.
:confused: You just have to show me those posts.

If I supported a club that had won one flag and was presently in the position the Saints find themselves in I would be a hell of a lot more circumspect and respectful of the opposition.
I think you maybe the one with issues here.

You know you're a very good side when everyone starts to hate you. Good luck to the Saints next week - they absolutely deserve to be there after such a brilliant performance in the regular season.

To all you muppets bleating about the saints win

Can't believe the garbage spewed out here and on talk back about how the saints were lucky, and will get smashed in the gf.

Firstly, the dogs played out of their skins, their best game for the year. The saints played poor to ok football but still won.

The saints are CAPABLE of a lot better play, they have shown it all year. So to claim that is how they will play in the gf is the biggest load of BS going.

Also, the bleating about the umpiring is more garbage.

Take a look at the replay and see how many times rewioldt got illegally shepared out of the marking contest without getting a free kick (about 4 or 5 times).

On another day the umpires pay those as free kicks. That's the way it goes.

Dogs couldn't win it with the saints not playing well, looking for umpiring excuses is more whinging crap.
