I know it's school holidays down here but it's still a work night for those of us who get up early during the week.

Is there something specific on to mean we have to play mid week for premiership points?

I can think of a few reasons. The majoor one being the AFL wants to trial a different timeslots before the inclusion of GWS and GC.
Also at the start of the year they would have seen this as a good chance to expose Brisbane in the southern markets. They probably would have assumed that this was going to be a clash between to teams who would be fighting for a top 4 position and that given our recent history this would be a closely contested game.
Not sure if the draw was released before or after we obtained Fev bout that may have been another rational for the scheduling of this game.

Personally I don't mind playing Thursday, we've already had a week off and now will get another extended break before our next game. Plus it is rare that we get a prime time game in Melbourne, so that is a positive for the club. The downside is that given our current form we could once again end up embarressed infront of a national audience.

PS. just looked back and that was a fair essay. can you tell i'm a bit bored today...

Also true

Thursday night is a strange timeslot IMHO, unless teams are going to agree to 5 day breaks, which they generally don't like too much I can't see it happening too much outside Easter Thursday (early in the season, short turnaround not as huge as it might be later in the season) or after the split round.

Good to see Ch10 showing the game in Qld at a good time. The world really is stuffed. We are on FTA prime time and Collingwood are on pay TV:eek:

I'd much rather see us on Fox. I utterly detest FTA coverage, whichever idiot channel is showing it.

The draw is announced after players switch clubs, so that would have been the main motivation - Fev returns to Melbourne to face Judd! Channel 10 would have promoted the heck out of it. Clearly it has backfired on the AFL.

Following a split round this is one of the few opportunities you can hold a Thursday night game on 7+ days rest for both teams.

Don't expect regular Thursday games in the future, even with a 9th match in each round.
