I was at the game last night and i saw a massive crowd of magpie supporters leave early? Why is this? What kind of supporters are the ones that only care about the win, and leave while we were losing during the last game of the year?

I've never left early and can't really see why people would. Catching an earlier train and beating the traffic is always a fairl lame excuse.
The fact that the result was pretty much sewn up by 3qtr time made the last quarter a lot easier to "say goodbye" for the season. It was a lot more relaxing than being around the 4-5 goal mark where there's always a faint glimmer of hope.

i agree! we wont see the boys until april, and some you may never see in the black and white verticles again.. poor form for mine... i stayed til the end!

I stayed until the end.

Despite the disappointment of the loss, I realised that it's the last time I'll see the guys play for 6 months, and maybe for some players the last time ever. In any case, I never leave early, as I feel that the whole concept of a supporter is to actually stay to "support" your team, win lose or draw. It was disappointing to me to see people leave with half an hour to go, and by the time the siren went it seemed as if over half the stadium was empty. I clapped and cheered the Marty Clarke goal towards the end, despite the fact that it was entirely meaningless.

I guess it's just personal preference as to whether or not you stay for the entirety of the match, but my view is that while there are Pies players still giving it a go on the field then you've got to stay and support. You only really appreciate the highs when you experience the lows, and God only knows that being a Pies supporter in the mid to late nineties really gives you some perspective on the lows.

Yeah I stayed until the bitter end. I always do anyway, but even if I was the sort to leave early I wouldn't have last night. It's a long off-season and I wanted to see our last half hour play out.

I stayed to the end, I still cheered the marty clarke goal and good tackles, smothers, etc.... I agree with THE NORM, that it was easier to watch the last quarter knowing that the game was already over, plus why by seats for the game if you're not going to be there when the game finishes, and also the people who leave before a game finishes piss me off because it shows that they're not a passionate fan...

I stayed right till the end.

Was happy to see Medders kick his 50th.

Just not a great night overall though... but perhaps a new beginning for the footy club.

People who leave early are week bastards, that is why.

Those without valid reasons will try to justify their lameness but it just doesnt wash.

I've never left early ever. I don't agree with it and feel it lacks character.
But lots of people stream out of the ground for every game that isn't close , just like key players get bronx cheers if they are having a shocker. I can't figure out why people seem confused or outraged by this , even if they don't like it. It is what it is and always will be.

In 8 long seasons I have only left a game early once.
Mind you I got evicted.
Security didnt think I was 'right for the night'.
What do they know about passion anyway ? The meat head that threw me
out was laughing. I asked him who he supported. He said he didnt follow AFL.
I told him "must be a thrilling job you have yourself".
He said " Ill remember your face"
I said " Dont bother just look in the top draw of your mums dresser theres a
photo under the pink panties" :D:p
You leave the game you dont know the meaning of the word 'support'.
You definately know the meaning of the word 'SOFT' though

BS - I sometimes leave about Half Way during the Last Quater if we are getting Destroyed so I can get on the Train and Get a Seat. Don't want to stand around to Frankston

Dave,

I live in preston. So I am biased. My travel time would be a quarter of yours. Great to see you make the treck from Frankston.

Poor little Davey has to stand up on da twain. AWWW SHUCKS.
Well I am just saying not Everyone stays to the End Siren if we get done pretty Badly and People should not look down on people who do

I agree with Dave, I always leave early so people can make of that what they want. I buy my membership every year have done so for the past 11 years and l get reserved seats. If the game isn't going to my liking and we have no chance of winning l will leave.

I do have a long train ride home to Frankston and l don't want to have to put up with tools on the train after a loss.
But i did stay to the bitter end last night, l knew very early on that we weren't gonna win so i just relaxed and watched the lads play for the last time. Looking forward to 09 may the might Pies fly high next season

I was in the ****ing saints cheersquad and i stayed till the end.

leaving early does not make you less of a fan and its perfectly understandable you dont wanna see your boys getting towled up the opposition cheers are like daggers through the heart.

the only reason you would stay is to stick it up the oposition supporters.

I didnt leave early, but constantly see the highest paying supporters leaving early on the 2nd deck of the Ponsford.

I can understand leaving 5 -10 minutes before the siren, but at the 10 minute mark of the last game that you will see us play for 6 months, cmon.

Just goes to show, the average, lower paying member is usually more reliable then the higher paying ones.

I did storm out when the siren went, but I do that often, and I couldnt blame anyone for doing the same.

I went to the bar with around 2 minutes left in the third so i could grab some beers but that's about it. I don't agree that it's weak to leave early, the way most of the boys played the other night they didn't deserve to have an audience.

Totally ok to leave early.

Believe it or not, the players don't actually play for the fans. They play for themselves and the team. Fans are an inconvenient necessity.

If they're not putting in the effort, why should some kind of perceived loyalty to a group of guys who don't reciprocate the same feelings justify staying until the siren?

What a stupid comment. Unless you are/were a player how would you know? I only play at local level, but feel that I play for the supporters around the club. Members pay part of players wages at AFL level. Stupid, stupid comment.

Anyhow, I left early one game in the early 90's. Played the Bulldogs out at Waverley. We were down by 8 goals 10 mins into the last quater and the game ended up being a draw and one of the best comebacks ever seen! I will never leave early again!

I left 10mins in the last quarter because we were disapointing and why see your team lose WHY!!
Also you can beat the traffic:p
