Why did Port Adelaide trade their 2xAA backman Dan Houston for half-eaten dorito chip

Few years back Melbourne Demons tried to assassinate Brand Petracca by drowning him.
Didn't work, but we didn't give up either, sent him out at the Big Kings Birthday game with half a spleen.
Traumatised the poor campaigner so bad he didn't even attend our B&F.

If anyone deserves "fresh start" it's him but he asked for a trade and we laughed in his face. Sorry mate, few years left to run on that thing you signed!

Clayton Oliver, he's done alright by us. 2xAFLCA, couple of AA, few best and fairests I think.
Had a rough time apparently, just wants the simple life, nice farm away from the big smoke, get himself a John Deere.
So keen to leave he even said he'd take a pay cut. We told him to **** off too.

Dan Houston said like 2 weeks ago he was happy to stay if Port can't get a nice trade but they basically just gave him away to bloody Collingwood of all teams.

QUESTION FOR BIGFOOTY BRAINS TRUST:

Why don't clubs just hold their players to contract? Dees did and everyone's having a great time.

Better to be young than good was a classic bigfooty cliche

Better to be easy to deal with than act in the club's best interest is the trade version one

Someone think of the future deals

It is Non-Victorian clubs jobs to make Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond and Geelong stronger

This is the way
that seems extremely biased, can you include the other Vic clubs please?

TBF Dees are from Victoria and we've handed out a few wristie to the Pies too.
Took Grundy to play him in the VFL, relieved ourselves of Jeremy Howe for some guy named Ben.

The truth is it was a good deal, AA half back not worth two firsts as it turns out, you were sold a bad narrative to start the trade period off as Port are desperate to keep the facade of being a destination club with a superior culture.

Too much kool aid, the trade was the only honest part of the deal.

This is the same club who keeps employing a coach who has not made a grand final after 12 season amongst many other massive failures. The club accepts mediocrity at all levels including list management.

this is what I dont understand. The SANFL Port had a reputation as being a ruthless pack of bastards, on and off the field. The current Port Power set up are marshmallows by comparison.

Jobs for the boys, the whole club gaslight the supporters constantly telling us how good we have done. Wait for them to come out and say how good this trade was for us. Until that place is swept clean from Koch down, nothing will change.

Apparently he's not even worth one first- they have to give up Houston and take 2 list cloggers (Lukousious and some guy named Rory) and their salaries too?

Geelong took salary dump and got Pick 7 for it.

FWIW my club was toey to hand over 2 firsts but we got ghosted a few days before date night.

they have to bite the bullet, like we did. Eddie & Bucks out, two years later, a flag.
