Why do you all keep preaching that Collingwood can't 'steal' a midfielder?

I keep hearing that you've put time and effort into developing these players like Bartel and Kelly etc and that Collingwood should bring up some of their own midfielders, yet you are trying to get another player from a club who has spent time and effort into bringing up Ottens.

PS: We don't lose anything if we can't work out a trade and I would be just as happy with an Eckerman type player in the draft.

we don't have a fascination with your midfield its just that when you put geelongs need/want for a top ten draft pick to get ottens and collingwoods top ten draft pick you get speculation. i wouldn't say that geelongs midfield is the best but it is one of the youngest and deepest in the afl.

Whats collingwood's fascination with our players? I dont see them chasing other teams midfield. But if we asked them which club has the best midfield they wouldn't say geelong.
geez yearofthecat you have an intellect rivalled only by the village idiot's dead sh*t brother. YOUR club needed a top ten pick to get Ottens. They came to us and asked what it would take to get it. Collingwood named 4 players. If Geelong don't give one up nothing happens it's that simple.

Some say the Cats have a deep list but others say our deep list is rubbish when we offer them as trade.
Some think if a club propose's a trade they are trying to rip of a club but others think it just shows a recognition of talent.

Come on this is the big time and its natural that as soon as we start to have a talented side other clubs were going to test our ability to hold them.
Just tonight Ive heard that Sheedy is trying to do a deal fo Ryley Dunn.
He can see talent.Every club has a responsibility to enquire and endervour to boost their list, at who's expense is not usually a care.As long as its done within the rules its a must for any club, inculding ours
Put it this way if the Cats have a bad year next year, finish on the bottom and are then contacted by Judds management saying he wants to be a Cat.We would be crazy not to encourage him to do what Simonds is going to do this year.Stick it right up his current club by going to the new one for nicks in the PSD. Fair , NO but thats the rules and everyone has and can play by them.
What about Josh Fraser, he was a Geelong follower as a kid, handy sort tall just as its fair for the Pies to enquire about Tenace this year, it will be fair to enquire about Fraser next year esspecially if we miss on Ottens this year.

Fair enough, i did not know that. Ive never seen it mentioned before. All i started hearing was Collingwood looking to steal some of our better players for a pick 7 just because we want ottens. I started thinking Ottens was not worth getting rid of some quality players.

Why...

My Answer: "It's Collingwood."

Non-Geelong supporters say:"Then you don't get Ottens coz your tight"

Answer: "If not wanting to get ripped off is tight, in that case the only person who isn't tight is Ned Flanders."

Tigers supporters say:"N. Thompson was traded for X and Y"

Answer: "good for you, so how many picks did you get for him?"

There's a nice template for discussing the Ottens trade until 2pm Friday.

Round and Round and Round we go.

LOL yes, how much does this ride cost?

I don't think the clubs are as immature as supporters often can be when it comes to trading. Stupid maybe but not immature. Still, I think the price on Ottens head is a bit high. Ottens isn't a Lloyd, Lockett, Dunstall, Modra or Ablett snr.

Never trade a short for a tall.

Besides that Fraser is clearly class so why would we get rid of him? It's not like we have an abundance of 200cm+ key position/ruck who can also play on the wing and kicks goals when put in the forward line.

Bartel and Teance are pretty classy too, Hoggoir.

Agreed Phatoir. Never said they weren't. But why would we get rid of a player that would be close to being our next captain (Steve Johnson CFC Captain 2007 sounds good to me though)

But as I said, don't trade a tall for a short.

Collingwood can only pretty much give up draft picks because you ain't got any players that are worth trading realistically!
If you think you do, then please do so....

Did Neil Balme tell you that or did you merely read it at that bastion of impartiality, Nick's?

Never trade a short for a tall hey. Are you seriously telling me you would not trade in an instant your Richards for Judd. Talls carry a premium because there are more mids but quality mids are not that abundant either.
Why would anybody trade anyone. Its not always getting rid of them.Who ever Geelong does let go is not got rid off, because ,bar Spriggs, we really have no tradable's that we really want to trade. It will hurt who ever gos.
Enright is likely but only because he is out of state and he is a wanted player.

Anyway, if an Ottens situation happens to any of us whether tall or short players can be traded.

If that were the case of course.

But let's talk about realistic trades hey?

For instance - Would you trade Steven King for Luke Power? Both All-Australians.
