Why sell our home game?

Absolutely sick of people saying we lost because of what city we were playing in. Sick of it beyond belief.
We lost because our opponents were better than us on the night. That is the only reason.

They were better than us because they prepared better than us. Simply.

We sound like Essendon supporters with their pathetic excuses last week.

that's barely scratching the surface tugg, we lost coz those that had carried us in last month or so barely had a kick between them last night. Poor effort all round, and credit to PA for the shut down they did

Yep they were better prepared, but I don't it was because they travelled up to Darwin a day earlier than us. It had more to do with their plans for shutting down our key players. They managed to stop Cotchin and Martin from providing any drive, stopped Deledio and Newman from setting up from the backline and gave Jack no room to operate at all. Any time that happens we're going to struggle to win, doesn't matter if its against lowly sides like Port or top sides like the Pies.

The fact of the matter is we need our best players playing well week to week to be any chance of winning because we simply don't have the depth to cover them being quiet.

Yes they were better.... to move forward we need to ask why they were better.... The fact that they were better prepared is not an excuse it's a criticism pointed straight at our club. It's something we can fix and get better at.

IMO we lost because we couldn't handle the slippery conditions, like Port could.

Does any1 know why we chose to sell the game we had against Port specifically? Is there any contributing factor whereby the opposition club must agree etc?

There is no excuse for losing, but having said that, our home game advantage was non existant...actually when you look at it, it was probably more of an advantage to them considering they have played there a bit.

Would it not have been a more logical decision to have played a team like melbourne where we would not have an advantage or disadvantage playing them at the G or up in the NT???

Lot of short sighted fools in this thread, they probably would have lost even if it was at Etihad because it wouldn't have been played at the G, doesn't matter where you play if your key players are shut down and you are second to the ball and don't tackle 9 times out of 10 you will lose.
Selling the game has nothing to do with it and was the correct thing to do we have made $1 million for 2 games over 3 years in Darwin and $1.5 to play GC in Carins the next 3 years so get over it FFS all games would be played at Etihad and all would be barely break even and we should win these games regardless of location if we want to play finals, if we are realistic however you would recognize that it is highly unlikely to happen this year.
The 2.5 million is far more important for our long term future which can help wipe off debt invest more in recruiting, player development, coaching and our own VFL side. Far more critical then fools like MT having to watch a few matches on TV.

All the years of failure resulting in limitation of membership sales, sponsorship etc led to the games being sold in order to raise revenue and the humiliation of Richmond acting like a North or a Hawthorn prostituting ourselves.

Please let it be over as soon as possible nd we return to Melbourne for 11 games per year just like Collingwood and Essendon who are the only yardsticks we should aim at.

There's every chance we could have won at home playing the way we did. We lost by 15 points, but when there are 30-40,000 tiger supporters behind you it makes a difference on how hard our players work and how much pressure is on the opposition. Not to mention better handling conditions for our ungloved players. Stop ignoring this peanut

:thumbsu:. I think we only have 1 sold game next year then it'll be all Melbourne from then on

Great post.
It has been embarrassing reading some people's comments on why we lost on the weekend.
We have turned into the Essendon board of excuse makers and whingers.

Perhaps you should put the clubs long term gains over your selfish needs to want to go to the match instead of watching on TV.

Sure you can survive missing 1 match a year

You have to admire Mad Tiger:cool: for his passion but the club is way bigger than him.

I can't believe the selfish and emotional comments the last few days. At the start of the season 99% (not including Mad Tiger:cool:) would have applauded this as a great way to bring some extra $$ and at the same time develop our brand outside victoria. Many (including Mad Tiger:cool:) have been more than happy to sprout on about reaching the 10,000 new members this year and I wonder just how many are NT or FNQ fans?

I couldn't care less about the result of this game but raise a glass and thank Benny and co for being brave enough to chase some extra $$ to benefit our club well, well beyond 2011:thumbsu:

Of course not being in the 8 has nothing to with having St Kilda by the balls and letting them get two points.
Of course it has nothing to do with leading Carlton halfway through the last quarter and blowing an opportunity to win the first game of the year.
Nope, it's got everything to do with playing a game on an oval, with grass with goalposts at either end in a different city.
