What are people's thoughts on the ideas of the AFL to extend the finals to 10 teams and have a wildcard weekend.

Where the team finishing 10th would play 8th and 9th would play 7th in a wild card weekend similar to the NFL.

Dylan McLaughlin is very keen to do it. And he runs the AFL draw.

So you can lock it in.

First of all, Gillon McLachlan.
Second, dumb idea. Leave it at 8 teams. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Do not like at all.

Can the powers that be just leave the bloody game alone??? I saw Vlad on Channel 10 news talking about increasing the finals to 10 teams and this is ONLY to make it easier for the 2 new teams to make it and increase revenue so he can up his 2.2 Mil a year wage.

When Freo , Port , West Coast , Brissy and Adelaide etc came in they never got all these BS concessions the 2 golden child teams are getting.

The Suns and GWS will make the finals when they are ready and have a good team Vlad not when you want them to you twit.

LEAVE THE GAME ALONE.

I wouldnt mind seeing a top 9 with whoever came first having a week off as a reward for winning the minor premiership. Havnt really thought much more than that though.

It would make approx an extra 70 million to the AFL and the advertisers.

Surely that isn't all bad if it is reinvested into the game.

Will happen because of the $ it will generate.

Seems like a waste of time, teams from 5-8 are very rarely genuine threats come finals time so 9-10 definitely won't be.

Teams that finish 8th are usaully average, let alone 9th/10th.

Leave as it is, finals aren't ment to be easy to get there!

what's wromg with the top 8 system we have now. nothing

just another case of the afl trying to fix coke or the game. if it ain't broke don't fix it

The issue is that you want the most number of teams still a chance at the end of the year. Thats where the 10 with a wild card weekend works. You get 2 extra teams having an extra week. You get the bye for the best teams that people have suggested they want to have the best players rested for the finals.

I would love after the wild card weekend that they went to a 8 v 1, 2 v 7, 6 v 3 and 4 v 5 with no second chances and no weekends off (after the first week).

Love it. I am assuming McLaughlin will have the common sense to keep the current setup for the next four weeks too.

Great news. :thumbsu:

Why not put every team in the finals then?
