gotta say, your mob is heavily into Pickett and its being reported have expressed interest in Day and iirc North's McKay as well....with a F1 and not much more right now, thats going to need one hell of a lot of negotiating and wheeling and dealing to get any more than 1 of those guys done for that. If they pull it off..your recruiting team should be spoken of in the same breath as Fos Williams by the faithful

I have learnt over the last few years that if Port are genuinely after a player, they get deals done so my money is on Pickett at least ending up there.

For us - this year would love Will Day if he shows this year he is midfield ready - great size and clever player. I suspect we are also going to go very hard for Harry Himmelberg - free agent and a real need and with his parents recently relocated to SA and his brother here - it might pull enough strings with him if we put in a good offer

These threads are the most emotive on Big Footy. All rationality goes out the window. There are so many precedents that show how this could play out IF Day decides to request a trade and nominates a club - for example Adelaide. Here's what we know:

• He is out of contract - zero leverage for Hawthorn.
• He has played 30 odd games in his 4th year due to injuries.
• He has shown promise as a half back and is now getting some midfield minutes.

At best, Hawthorn could get a pick between 15 - 20 with a 3rd going back.

He would be comparable in trade value to the likes of Jye Caldwell

I’ll be honest though I find the assumption that everyone wants to move home a strange one. I get plenty do but as soon as a player is out of state people assume it’s between staying at the current club or moving home.

I don’t put much stock in it unless rumours are out that they may want to move back him personally

In fairness when a young talent from GWS puts off contract talks and rumours suggest your club might be into them, we all get up and about.

personally think he has sown more than Setterfield or Caldwell. But his value will largely come down to this season, if he has a full season and lives up to his potential we can be expecting a better pick. If he has another injury interrupted season then I totally agree.

How? He's played 30 games. You're getting him more on potential than anything else.

And by better pick, I don't think you're getting more than a mid first round.

With all due respect, it shouldn't be terribly difficult for Day to become a top 6 player at Hawthorn this season, if he can't manage that, I would be pretty concerned (well obviously depending on injuries obviously)

There is also an implication that Hawthorn will have to probably pay overs (salary cap wise) if they want to keep him, cause both SA clubs, esp the Crows are keen.

I Wish him well at any rate (has a decent season)

If he stays fit no doubt he’ll be one of our better players. We’ll pay him what he’s worth, I can see him getting something around the $600k mark by the end of the year. Not even young Reid gives up the first rounder the crows are tracking for for Will Day.

He’s in the perfect position now. Whether he stays at us or goes to the Crows, he’s going to get paid incredibly well.

Here is why we wouldn't be all that thrilled with it...

We need Day in 2024 developing along side our other mids more than a player who won't be on our list until 2025. We also need more experienced quality 21/22 with 50+ games not less.

Losing Day would set us back, his value is also up in the air because of a positional changes/injuries/potential.
