gotta say, your mob is heavily into Pickett and its being reported have expressed interest in Day and iirc North's McKay as well....with a F1 and not much more right now, thats going to need one hell of a lot of negotiating and wheeling and dealing to get any more than 1 of those guys done for that. If they pull it off..your recruiting team should be spoken of in the same breath as Fos Williams by the faithfulsomeone said he’s put off negotiations until the end of the year ? That right?
Odds say he’s gone if he’s done that.
Mackay is a rfa and north would take the compo pick for him if he left, but I don’t think he’s leaving, and I really don’t think he’s leaving Victoria if he did leave north.gotta say, your mob is heavily into Pickett and its being reported have expressed interest in Day and iirc North's McKay as well....with a F1 and not much more right now, thats going to need one hell of a lot of negotiating and wheeling and dealing to get any more than 1 of those guys done for that. I have learnt over the last few years that if Port are genuinely after a player, they get deals done so my money is on Pickett at least ending up there.Mackay is a rfa and north would take the compo pick for him if he left, but I don’t think he’s leaving, and I really don’t think he’s leaving Victoria if he did leave north.
Getting 2 players across might be difficult with current picks (future 1st , 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder) but we may have players ask for a trade.
Currently not contracted for 2024 port players
Georgiades
Bergman
Farrell
Bonner free agent
We may hold all of these players, or 1 or more may ask to go elsewhere.
We’re extremely good at getting trades done.
I think getting pickett and another player like day would be very difficult if we didn’t have any players leaving.
I suspect crows will go hard for day.
In fairness when a young talent from GWS puts off contract talks and rumours suggest your club might be into them, we all get up and about.I’ll be honest though I find the assumption that everyone wants to move home a strange one. I get plenty do but as soon as a player is out of state people assume it’s between staying at the current club or moving home.
I don’t put much stock in it unless rumours are out that they may want to move back him personally
personally think he has sown more than Setterfield or Caldwell. But his value will largely come down to this season, if he has a full season and lives up to his potential we can be expecting a better pick. If he has another injury interrupted season then I totally agree. These threads are the most emotive on Big Footy. All rationality goes out the window. There are so many precedents that show how this could play out IF Day decides to request a trade and nominates a club - for example Adelaide. Here's what we know:
- He is out of contract - zero leverage for Hawthorn.
- He has played 30 odd games in his 4th year due to injuries.
- He has shown promise as a half back and is now getting some midfield minutes.
At best, Hawthorn could get a pick between 15 - 20 with a 3rd going back.
He would be comparable in trade value to the likes of Jye Caldwell, Will Setterfield, Tanner Bruhn.
It sucks when you're in this position as a club but it is just a reality. For example, if TDK leaves, we are not getting back for him what he is worth to us in the present and future but nothing you can do. When a player is out of contract and nominates a club you just gotta accept market value.
How? He's played 30 games. You're getting him more on potential than anything else.personally think he has sown more than Setterfield or Caldwell. He also has 20 mor games until the end of the season, he plays an elite season and his value will changeHow? He's played 30 games. You're getting him more on potential than anything else.
And by better pick, I don't think you're getting more than a mid first round.
"Day is keen to hold off talks deep into the season but will get the midfield time to allow him to turn into a top six player at the Hawks."Ralphy seems to think Day is a legit chance to go home back to SA at the end of the season (article behind a paywall)
A pick somewhere in the 20s seems about right.
"Day is keen to hold off talks deep into the season but will get the midfield time to allow him to turn into a top six player at the Hawks."
Yea that's totally what he said
If he stays fit no doubt he’ll be one of our better players. We’ll pay him what he’s worth, I can see him getting something around the $600k mark by the end of the year. If Adelaide wanna pay him more that’s fine, they can give us their first and we take it to the draft and get one of the highly rated key forwardsWith all due respect, it shouldn't be terribly difficult for Day to become a top 6 player at Hawthorn this season, if he can't manage that, I would be pretty concerned (well obviously depending on injuries obviously)
There is also an implication that Hawthorn will have to probably pay overs (salary cap wise) if they want to keep him, cause both SA clubs, esp the Crows are keen.
I Wish him well at any rate (has a decent season)
I think a future 1st might be feasible, or perhaps the Crows trade down.If he stays fit no doubt he’ll be one of our better players. Yeah doubt we take a future first. Adelaide probably have to decide wether they want day or moir more. If it’s the latter then there’s probably no point chasing day. If day blitzes it in the middle and becomes a match winner then he’s worth a top 10 pick everyday of the week. But if he can’t make it as a mid it’s probably a mid/late first rounderI think a future 1st might be feasible, or perhaps the Crows trade down.
Day can't physically have a season good enough to get his value up to a top 6 pick, which the Crows will definitely have.

Here is why we wouldn't be all that thrilled with it...Why would hawks not want a crows future 1st?
That’s still going to be a top 10 pick, and hawks aren’t competing now.
I reckon hawks would snatch that pick up pretty quickly.
Have you watched him play? He could easily be our best player by seasons end. Thats why.Why would hawks not want a crows future 1st?
