That's why I'd like him to play in the backline. Up forward I don't think he'll add anything that Fasolo and Elliott don't already do. I think he'll find the pill easy down back and can use pace more effectively there, plus he's a good over head mark. Think playing down back might suit him like it does Howe.
He's like a younger version of Stevie Johnson. Players like that you don't play in the backline. Yes, they are inconsistent and you're not quite sure what you're going to get when they take the field. Players like Hoskin-Elliot create goals out of nothing and are potential match winners. If he hadn't been injured he would have been a first round draft trade and not a second round trade. Not that GWS would even have comtemplated trading him.

Not convinced with WHE... but no doubt interviewed well, is a good citizen, trains well, etc... so pies took the punt. My only concern is the price we paid.

In recent years there are a number of first and second round recruits in sier, freeman, shaz, aish and WHE... who have either outright failed (freeman) or in the case of the rest are yet to prove their price just yet due to injury and/or form (with exception of WHE who is new). The success of these picks are crucial to our future top 4 ambitions

But on the basis of price I was also no fan of the varcoe and howe recruitments, so I'm pretty happy to be wrong.
Okay Judy Garland... Go back to your double rainbow

I often wonder.
I don't wish to start a new thread.
Why did we take WHE when we could have traded for Jack Steele.
The results this year will speak to us.

Jack Steele will be a vanilla half forward, WHE could be special, speed, elite skills, goal sense, everything we lack.

Different style of players. WHE has a combination of class, skill and athleticism that create scoring opportunities from very little when he's on. Steele is more your standard midfield type; and we're already stacked in the midfield. The short answer is we had a need for the former not the latter style of player.

Steele is a goal kicking mid who has been playing half forward.
Like a lot of NSW kids(whether he played League or Union) he is tough as nails.
I'm not downplaying WHE and his perceived athleticism.
Money doesn't seem an object at Pieland given The massive sum that we surrendered to Chris Mayne with our leftover Cloke money.
Will be a fascinating year.
See if Dekka Hines vision wins the day.

I don't think WHE does enough up forward purely an simply. Only just averages over 10 possessions a game averages less than a goal a game. These are worse number than Blair. I know he has talent and can do things Blair can't but he just doesn't produce consistently. I think he'll be able to impact game s more regularly and use his talent more effectively from the backline, similar to Howe.

Maybe they thought doubling the names worked better with the set up:

Hoskin- Elliot and Elliot is better than Steele Sidebottom and Steele ?

That's all I've got

I'd be more upset if we paid what StKilda did for Steele than what I was with WHE. Steele screams vanilla mid to me.
Lacked opportunity at GWS. I think he can really improve at St.Kilda. He's not the flashiest player you're right, but I think he can become a solid mid for them who can also push forward and kick some goals.

Good kid too, watched him play as a junior he won't die wondering. It's a shame, he loved the Pies as a kid. Would have loved him to play for us.
