Time to go Starcevich, Smith, Haberfield, Broome. Bring in Crook, Paulke, Frame and James. Harden up against TAS or the result will be worse than the NSW game

Couldn't disagree with the outs. Although Bain is injured, is still kicking goals for Redlands and would be a useful target in the forward line.

How about dropping the coaching staff to many changes playing players
in positions they have never played changes needed from the top queensland have struggled for the last 4 years have not seen any
improvement always strong at under 16s level then they fall away when
they play under 18s

So much for playing at NEAFL clubs then as directed. May as well play Pinapple Cup. At least at that level the quality kids get to stand out in a much slower comp.

Do you think they are better off playing senior footy in PHC, or reserve grade NEAFL like a fair few of the state kids do? Im sure there are advantages to both, would be interesting which level would be a better standard of footy. (I know Sandgate beat both Aspley and Morningside's reserves in trials earlier this year)

I think Reserves in the NEAFL is closer to playing senior NEAFL footy than PHC, most of the players are wanting positions in the seniors where as PHC is more like been there and done that players apart from a few loyal kids that put club loyalty first. Wouldnt look to hard into trial games pretty early in the season and still just warming up. Would be an interesting game at the end of the season.........play off between NEAFL Ressie and PHC Grandfinal winners.

All Head Coaches.
Not exactly sure how much pull the Qld coach has at selection time in fairness to him. Browning seems to hang around a lot and could well be he pulls the strings with who plays and who doesnt. Looking at who gets games and in what positions he must surely liase with them and get feadback with who clubs want to see playing in certain positions. Looking at all the media stuff that gets pumped out on AFL and AFLQ web sites and all the talking up of certain players it has to be all about getting certain kids exposed.
The last 2 games a 2 x 17 yr old unavailable for draft this year toped the stats sheet yet hardly get a mention.......they even didnt put up 1 of the kids stats on the web site......work that one out

There seems no doubt that there is pressure to play certain players to allow clubs to look at them - father sons the best example - Starcevich coming in late to the squad after initially not being selected as felt not completely recovered from OP, and playing key forward in every game since, is clearly one example. Another interesting one is Bourke - played in state under 16s last year, but playing with 16s again this year as overage player rather than in 18s as a bottom ager (as birthday in Nov) - no doubt will do well - but one wonders if done largely to push his case for AIS selection as hes a potential father son as well? Not too many get to play under 16s twice, the second time as an overage player?

Missed first 2 TAC cup trial games as away with AIS.
Since played final trial games, and state games vrs SA, Vic Metro, and NSW/ACT. Missed the NT game with ankle injury.
does anyone no who the best players for qld has been for the hole championships or does anyone have there own ideas who have played well and a chance to be drafted or rookie

Maybe leaving his name out of most write ups when clearly in the best the last two games is to stop some questioning why he was omitted from entire squad to start with? Be interesting to see his numbers on hard ball gets compared to some of the more spoken of kids!

it went 16s, 17s, 18s.they use to have every age group in juniors after the age of 12. 11 years ago they changed that. too be honest they have enough kids playing junior afl to go back to that. but the reason is probably. not enough umpires

Would suggest not enough players Damo more likely!!

From what i understand FM, a relatively new rule for Qld footy at rep level, hence you haven't seen it much. Is a good rule i reckon in developing footy states. NT have been allowed to do it for a while.

Not sure the coach makes a massive difference Brisvegas - wasn't MCrae the coach for a year as well? How did the 18's go that year? Robert Hyde has been coaching for 25 years at under age elite level - its less about current players, more about the talent base alot of the time. His Calder Cannons have been incredible at producing AFL players in the last decade.

when mcrae coached qld won the nationals

Thanks LF - wasn't sure what happened that year.
Certainly a guy coming out of AFL footy might be more likely to be his own man I would think. I am sure that there is not just one "coach" at this level when there is so many others hanging round the fringes.

The truth of the matter is that it is still more about how many kids get drafted out of your list than winning championships but naturally the more games you win the better your side, the more kids drafted you would think.

Cant find team up for todays game as yet? Presumably with a few injuries from the Sat game, 22 will be whos still fit from the squad in melbourne, unless some additional players have been flown down this week. Hope they are more competitive today than against NSW/ACT.

Team just come up on AFLQ site. Interesting to see if they actually set up as listed - 4 talls in the forward line, and a very small backline. Hope Tas dont get on top in the midfield and have a couple of decent marking tall forwards to kick to!
