In an 18 team comp with a salary cap and a draft I expect to compete in finals 4 or five times a decade, make the top four two (or three times) a decade, hope to make the Grand Final at least once a decade and nab a flag (or two) during this period.

In the last ten years we have made the finals five times (par), the top four on four occasions (above par), the Grand Final twice (above par) and have one premiership (above par).

The Kamry Krows Korporation on the other hand in the last ten years have made the finals seven times (above par), the top four on three occasions (par), not one Grand Final twice (below par) and not one premiership (well below par).

If we ever had 13 years without a Grand Final I would be disappointed.

Next, someone comes along and smashes M_atts post to pieces with legitimate statistics. See the below post for an example:

Afterall how many clubs in the AFL have performed to the level you have set out as a "par"?

In 22 seasons of AFL football we have seen 11 of the current 18 sides win a flag, 11 of 16 taking GC/GWS out. So only 68% of clubs in the AFL era have won flags.

Out of those 11 clubs only 8 have won more than one flag. Meaning that in 22 years only half (of the 16)the clubs in the league have won two flags. Which you claim as par, ie one flag every ten years.

How can something be par, when it is proven to have a 50% "success" rate in the real world?

EDIT, if we only consider data in the first two full decades of the AFL (first 20 season), that figure of 50% of clubs winning multiple flags drops to 7/16 or 43%. Collingwood only won one flag in this era ie 1990-2009. Winning thier second AFL flag in the third ten years of the AFL era.

So D, how can something be "Par" when it has only occurred 43% of the time in the first 20 years of AFL football?
