Press really taking the opportunity to kick the boots into this English team. Reminiscent of what the men’s team copped back in the 90s
I think it is partly a response to a few on youtube like Kimber pointing out that there is just much less interest in the performances of women's teams by the media.

Maybe but Gideon Haigh saying “Probably the worst team ever to be gifted a test match at the MCG” a bit over the top.

Hard to work out why they didn't create a separate honour board? They do it with Tennis at the Aussie open? I now assume that both Sutherland and King are up for selection for Australian team in general?
This was a missed opportunity to honour their great performances with their own honour board celebrating their own game! They play under different conditions with a smaller playing field and shorter boundaries, the ball is lighter, the breaks have different times etc, nothing wrong with that, but players should be acknowledged with their own honour board. I have nothing against the women playing cricket at a top level, but it should be recognised differently. Give them their own HONOUR board!

How many times over the previous years have you said the same thing about the MCG honours board?

Or has it not previously been an issue or something you've given thought to but now it's got a bit of advertising, it's a bit hard for some been to accept it's ok to share the honour board with the women?

When you look at the honours boards, it's pretty clear they haven't been designed to differentiate between the men's & womens games:
  • 'Australia Test Centuries'
  • 'Australia Test Five Wicket Performances'

So you factor that in, plus that the honour boards are in the Australian dressing rooms which are shared by men's & women's teams when they are playing at the MCG, it would seem that their names are in the right place

While I agree the shared Honour Board is great, I'm pretty sure no one has ever thought about it before because I believe Annabel Sutherland is the first woman to score a Test Century on the MCG.

They don't share it in Tennis or Golf, why should they share it with Cricket? They should have their own honour board which would be far more significant. They play under different conditions and i'm glad they're playing, but in reality if they played in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition they wouldn't win a game! To have the names Sutherland and King alongside Bradman and Warne is laughable. There was no need for this and the proper thing to do was have a Women's Cricket honour board.

While Sutherland is the first female cricketer to score a test century at the MCG, she's not the first female cricketer to have her name on one of those honour boards in the dressing rooms

The 32nd entry added to the 'Australia Test Five Wicket Performances' was in January 1935: P. Antonino 6/49 against England

Peggy was 17 when she took 6 wickets in an innings in what was then the first womens test match at the MCG, and just her second test for Aus

So it's definitely something that's been thought about before, and within cricketing circles it's obviously never been seen as controversial - instead they've acknowledged that both the men & women are athletes representing Australia in cricket

You may want to learn the history of those honour boards - it's been a shared recognition for both our men's & womens cricket teams since the first womens test match at the MCG in 1935

It is great though to see all the fragile men getting upset about the additions of A. J. Sutherland, B. L. Mooney & A. M. King over the last couple of days, when for the last 90 years they've ignored P. Antonio on the board

One image I don't think we've shared is the honours board from the visitors change rooms

When looking at the two honour boards for 'Five Wicket Performances', they show how difficult 5 wickets in an innings is

Prior to Ecclestone's addition, the last 2 additions are from Bumrah, while on the Australian board the top two entries on the current column are D.K. Lillie from 1977

i'd be celebrating getting on there, not with 5/143 though

Kumble's 6/176 the only 5+ wicket haul from an international to go for more runs

Interestingly, we've had 3 Aussies concede more:
  • 1953, Bill Johnston 6/152 vs South Africa
  • 1981, Bruce Yardley 7/187 vs Pakistan
  • 2002, Stuart MacGill, 5/152 vs England

But regarding Ecclestone, she's now played 9 test matches with 16 bowling innings -this match was the 4th time she's conceded 100+ runs in an innings which is the most in women's test matches

For anyone interested, this article from ESPN CricInfo looks at the numbers, stats & records that were broken during the MCG test:

This is a really good article with some proactive thoughts about where England & women's cricket can improve

And point 6 is pretty good

6) Improve the English weather

The 16-0 whitewash is explained easily by the fact that it rains a lot in England. We could start by sending our players to a surfing camp at Bondi. If that does not work, global warming ought to eventually do the trick.

They should have a separate board for chuckers though.
