Yeah they're drawn to play Sweden on the qtrs.....of course it may not happen though.

I'm going to laugh when the Escobar's beat them when they could of won playing their A team and playing Japan instead. Was already trolling my mate in UK after the game.

Argentina couldn’t go with the French.
The pace of Mbappe and Griezmann was out of this world.
If Messi played more of a midfield role or even held his position on the right for his country and they played Icardi, Dyabala, Aguero and Higuain in front of him then they would go well.
He demands the ball in weak positions and general brilliance will only get you so far.

FFS.

Since that ugly mofo Pepe scored you just know that Wankaldo will score the 2nd for the winner since I hate them so much heh.

Bye bye Spain :)

Well done Ruskis.....told my Russian friend at the time before the penalties I bet Spain will choke on the penalties.

Watching the post game, pregame and half time at BBC/ITV you don't really get annoyed by anyone in particular. Well Gary Neville is a bit annoying but just in comparison it shows how bad CH7 is. It is just far and between its not funny.

Put it this way, growing up in Belgium, I'm pretty sure you'd play football as a kid first and foremost. If you're any good you'll continue playing it, you'll go watch your team and heroes play in front of big crowds, see your team play on TV, read about it on the back page and talk about it all week at school with your mates.

I'm basing those assumptions on what it was like going to school in England from ages 14-16. We played football before school, at recesses and after school all year long. We'd play it after cricket practice in summer. It was fanatical. We also played a lot of basketball, but the actual games were midweek and training never took precedence over football. Guys who played in the hockey side were not good enough to play first team football at their age level - harsh maybe but definitely fact.

I'm not saying it'd be exactly the same in Belgium now as England in the 80s, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were similar. Elite talent all played football first - what they do to develop those elite kids is where the difference lies, and where England lagged/lags behind.

Stating the obvious but here, football rarely gets first dibs at elite sports kids. Maybe that's changing but until it does, my expectations will be tempered, no matter how good our academies are.

In Belgium children's first aim is to avoid the sex offenders that mill around in their thousands looking to enslave them in basements and the like, but after that, yep, soccer all the way.

94th minute!

Met and interviewed Nacer Chadli just before the last World Cup. Really nice guy, as is Kevin de Bruyne and of course Vincent Kompany.
