What is everyones opinion on Pinehurst? Created great drama. Certainly has an aura about the place. I thought it wasn't as penalising tee-to-green as I thought it would be. Unless a ball go stuck behind the shrubs, more often than not a player would still have a relatively open shot at the green. I would have liked to have seen wayward drives punished more severely.

Obviously the greens are ridiculously penalising.

I liked that it made for a tight close tournament. I don't like when we see scores of 15 under or better.
I agree I would prefer to see heavy rough than what Pinehurst offered but as you say the greens made up for it.

Not my favourite course and certainly wouldn't be on my bucket list to play but it did just provide a great tournament.

It looks awesome - somewhere that would be great to play. But the "wire grass" makes it a bit of a lottery in terms of what you get when you miss fairways.Loved the greens setup. One of the commentators was talking about a "greens visited" stat which I thought was a good way to describe them.

About 500 times more enjoyable than watching the pros destroy Valhalla.

Think Pinehurst is hosting the US Open every 5 years for the next 25?

I like it. I really hate PGA golf - which is often the same as US Open golf where if you miss the green it just settles in long grass about 2 foot from where you missed. Watching these guys shit themselves about balls rolling off in every direction is fun.

Also as you say it was hit and miss if the wiregrass was going to hurt you, but if it did it didn't matter if you were within wedge distance, you were still screwed. The 4inch rough we are used to seeing encourages players simply to bomb it and they barely even care if they end up in the rough - it just means they cannot spin it, but when the green is also surrounded by 4 inch rough they don't care about that either.

There was a premium on hitting fairways this week which there should be, and there was a premium on hitting greens which there also should be.

great place

course staff had it playing on a razors edge.

I'm glad Bryson didn't get relief on 18. Good call by the rules official. Would have provided plenty of discussion if Bryson had won with par from that.

was pretty close to being given. Had Bryson ever faded a ball in his life, he would have got that relief.

Glad he didn't though, we got to witness one of the biggest up and downs in major history.

Grace Kim with another heartbreaking 4th round performance. Hopefully a win comes soon. Fortunately the performance of Rory will take away the heat.

There is talk that Rory has withdrawn from the Travelers - and that Full Swing was with him in the aftermath. That will be nasty, but compelling, viewing.

Looked to me that Bryson’s ball hit a volunteer or official which stopped it from going behind the grandstand in which he would have got relief. So glad it did hit him as it setup an exciting finish to the tournament

I don’t think anyone will come close to choking as Greg Norman .

Shit I forgot about that French bloke at the open

Choking is a nasty word. It may have have happened today, it certainly happened to Van de velde and Norman- but only in 96. In most of his close losses, shark was completely snakebit. Mize, Tway, Zinger all spanked him with massive bombs

I'm sure Rory will enjoy the comparisons to Greg. Is he becoming the man he despises?
Apart from today, he hasnt choked previously?

Just had insane opposition that shot -8 like Cam Smith in The Open. Got close multiple times.

It happens. If BDU just played a usual -2, -3 round, would’ve won by 3 shots.

That bunker shot could’ve fallen well short of the hole, and would’ve had a playoff.

Just feel for him because he has been consistent, whereas Koepka played insane at times inhuman golf to win his 5 majors yet done absolutely nothing of note since.
