Worst Coach your club has ever had?

Can you remember the circumstances around his appointment? All I remember is that he was caretaker.

Boy we were a shambles
He was only caretaker for the last game of the year I think, once Wallace had made it clear he was moving on. Then we went and won that final game!

The win may have helped him to get the full-time gig, but I have no insights on whatever selection process we might have gone through (if any).

Malthouse or Pagan.. Its a tough one, both were well past their best with outdated gameplans.. In terms of long term f@rking of the club it probably goes to Malthouse.
probably need to go back a bit earlier. carlton appointed ian stewart as coach in 1978. lasted three weeks into the season during which time he had run ins with rob walls who left for fitzroy, percy jones was relegated to the reserves and gags gallagher was removed from his assistant coaches role. he then quit just before he was sacked after being charged with flashing at elsternwick.
blues then won the flag under jezza in 1979.

Interesting Blight makes it
Woodville
Geelong
Adelaide
I'd say he was a very good coach obviously St.Kilda is a different opinion

For us Shaw or Craig.

Craig definitely stayed on too long, but he doesn't belong in the Shaw and Ayers category.

Ayers was a good coach just coached the wrong club. Shaw was terrible why we got rid of Cornes is questionable
However Craig should of left at the end of 2010 we had the cattle but we never had the forward line. But how often do coaches resign..

To win a minor premiership with McGregor and Perrie makes it impossible to be listed here, irrespective of the midfield in particular.

Fagan has a 5 win 25 losses coaching record (16.6℅ winning record) and most Lions fans are pretty happy with him. #justbrisbanethings

Next year is when Fagan will be more seriously judged on wins and losses.

Though I could easily see them winning 5-6 or more this season if they don’t have injuries and break the ice soon

Tough one. I reckon Pagan tops Malthouse as worst coach this century for us. 1980 had clown of a coach in Percy Jones. Took most talented list in league to 4th, gap year in between 3 flags for club. Reckon it would have been 4 premierships in a row, otherwise.

A few years earlier Ian Stewart worst coach. Started season about 1 win from 7 or 8 rounds. He got sacked and we ended up making top five and winning one final as Jezza tried to take over and fix the mess he left of that season. Amazing recovery but also highlighted how shit he was as our coach as following season Jezza took us to the premiership and only 3 very wet days of season did we not kick over 100 points in a game.

So take your pick, Ian Stewart, Denis Pagan or Mick Malthouse and all big names in the game at the time they were coaches.
Probably has more to do with the club than those coaches.

I'd be interested to know how often coaches are loved by the players but still got the chop, would imagine this would've been the case had Dimma not gotten an extension a couple years back. Know this definitely wasn't the case with Matthew Knights at Essendon, but he's seemed to do pretty well with Geelong.

Mick is our worst coach, and at the time of his hiring probably one of the league's worst ever. Outdated game plan, too arrogant to change anything, and hollowed out the list. We're still recovering from the clown...

Tony Shaw
88 games
34% wins
Buckley: 4th (17 wins), 6th (14 wins), 11th (11 wins), 12th (10 wins), 12th (9 wins), 13th (9.5 wins).

This would be a pretty boring exercise if we just chose coaches with the lowest win percentage.
Collingwood were shit in the mid 90s and needed a purge.

Craig deserves a dishonourable mention at the MFC for ‘mentoring’ Neeld during his tenure. Not sure Neeld listened to him but Craig was a staunch defender of the man and I remember attending a club pre-game function in Subiaco where he spoke about the future ‘Mark’ was building for the club (needless to say Freo did us by 15 goals, the enduring image of the day being three of our defenders spoiling each other and Ballantyne, I think it was, crumbing a goal from the shambles). Oddly enough they both ended up at Essendon.
