Dislocated shoulder 3 times. Twice in 2 days. Popped it playing footy and a night later rolled over in my sleep and popped it out again. Getting woken up to a shoulder sticking out sideways is not a good feeling. The second time in a short period of times hurts 10x more than the first one when the put it back in place, more so when they tell you your ligaments are wrecked and now you need a shoulder reconstruction. Finished my footy career off. Only good news was it was late in the season and I held on to winning the b&f by 1 vote.

Hyper extended shoulder (different shoulder to the one above)
Broken ankle (surfing)
Torn ligaments in ankle
Torn calf
Torn hamstring
Fractured 2 ribs
Broke 2 ribs (most painful thing ever, taught me not to play football hungover after a best mates 21st)
Dislocated finger
Broken finger
Broken little toe and torn the tendon (they don't fix torn tendons in little toes, so now I can't move it)
Fracture nose, which required 6 stitches
Severely sprained ankle
Multiple concussions (some from footy, some not)

Funny thing is my wife said if I kept getting injured she would refuse to watch me play footy anymore, so I stopped, she took up running and within 12 months got stress fractures in her pelvic bone. Hate to see the injuries our kids will get

Ice Hockey - Torn MCL + PCL in 2004. The ACL somehow remained fully intact although strained, prevented reconstruction operation.
Mixed Netball - Ankle sprain in 2006, ligament in my foot hasn't healed properly to this day

Funnily enough both injuries were the last game I played in either sport.

Cricket - Broken nose. Was wicket-keeping and some dude let go of his bat.

Field hockey, mountain biking - worst I've had happen is some bruising from impacts. Spill participate in both sports.

funnily enough worst knee injury was playing indoor cricket, but whilst playing footy, .....

split above my eye requiring 6 stitches,
dislocated my elbow,
broke my ankle,
couple concussions,
like everyone hundreds of assorted bumps and bruises

Only on relection do you realise how many injuries you accrue, how hard the game is on your body, and how much harder it is to watch your kids play football, than play yourself.

I got knocked out a few times, including once while playing basketball of all things. I'm not very good at sport.

I had a minor MCL tear playing Dance Central on Xbox after cricket one day ..

Herniated disc in my lower back, couldn't sit down on the bench yet was awful standing up. I also suffered from OP for 1 to 2 years which stuffed my running style and caused hip/adductor pain. The loss of running fitness was the worst part of OP. I haven't (luckily) broken/snapped anything major on the field.

kick to the face = broken nose is my worst football injury

elbow to the face = fractured cheekbone is worst sporting injury (basketball)

Begs the question really.. can you play footy without getting injured? Seems quite inevitable.

Can anyone think of an AFL player who's racked up at least say 150 games without having had a serious injury? Even a concussion is something I would consider quite serious.

Went to snap a goal. Left leg left unprotected. Tackled as opponent fell on left knee with it not giving way.
Tore calf off the bone and ruptured PCL.
Took 4 years to fully recover.

Leg was purple and its the only time Ive cried since I was a kid.

Although this isn't as bad as most here, I tore some bone off my hip. Was running a 100m and the muscle contracted too violently, and instead of the muscle being torn, it pulled the bone off the hip. 6 week recovery but was overall not bad because I didn't use the muscle for that many things. The strange thing about it was how I just felt a non-painful "pop", couldn't continue running and had to be pulled off the track and the real pain came a few minutes after

Travis Cloke seems ultra durable

Yer he is, but just recently he went in for a bit of minor surgery for his finger didnt he?
While that is very minor it is still an injury sustained from playing this great sport of ours that usually wouldnt occur for the average Joe.

Deledio just came to mind as also a pretty durable guy, anyone can think if he has ever missed through injury or required surgery?

Ive pretty much done everything.

Knee - lucky to avoid a reconstruction after tearing ACL, MCL and PCL
Collarbone/Dislocated Shoulder - both happened in one go
Broken Cheekbone - dirty feral decided to knock me out

I did see a guy break his collarbone and it was sticking through the skin, thats probably the worst ive seen.
How do u move with no acl, mcl or pcl???

Two come to mind.

Ran back with the flight of the ball and got cleaned up by a bloke twice the size of me deciding to take mark of the year. Kneed me in the kidneys and I was pissing blood for two days.

The other one was being kicked just above the temple. Wet day and as I was on the ground trying to get the ball out, one of the opposition decided to come through and soccer the ball. Needless to say, he missed. Never played footy after that.

Always seems to be guys who can play, and play a long time without being injured, by the same token fearless at the ball players, can only seem to defy the footy gods for so long before injuries set in.

Sometimes your brain will tell you at the last instant not to go for the ball, dive on the ball, run with the flight, or your brain will tell you to have a quick look, etc etc ....its called self preservation, and everyone has it, and most of the time had you done what your first thought told you, you would have been injured or probably injured.

Everyone who has ever played footy at a reasonable level can tell you stories of very close calls at getting cleaned up and probably getting serious injuries.
