Ellis wasnts dropped. Most likely planned at the start of the season that Ellis would get about 5 games in the seniors, then go back for 3-4 weeks and improve down there, pump more game time and bring him back in. How Lewis was handled in his 1st year. Extremely limited game time, yet in slow increases in now a genuine gun. Besides ellis has shown gradual improvement in each game this year. Going well.

Same thing happened to Birchall - was in and out of the side all year in 06 and only in the last 5 games did he start to dominate. In fact his last game saw him get 36 touches. And Ellis was always considered the the more talented player....
Thomas is a match-winner. He has played 21 games and burst onto the scene in style.
What has Ellis done thus far?
If Thomas was avaliable at 3, Hawthorn would have snapped him up pronto.

luckily hes just a reserve for me.
yup.....ellis kicked that winning goal againts the cats this year.......lets just not expect too much from these young guys, the crop we have now are dam good and guys like muston, dowler, thorpe, kennedy, little, bailey, our depth just keeps growing, i think hawthorn and carlton have the best of the young guns...............cheers...........go hawks.........

Wouldnt even bother with a comparison for at least 2 years.
Reckon they'll both be pretty good over time.
LOL, Ellis was drafted as a long term prospect, until he's been in the system for about 4-5 years I won't say a thing. besides, it's not like Dale Thomas is about to pick up a brownlow, he's only a solid player so far, whether he will become an out and out star is debateable.

No worries for mine. Didn't have him in my team, but have had Jesse Smith ready to promote from my reserves this week.

About that. 10 kilos of hair and 10 kilos of product in that too. The other 40 kilos is his balls.
There were a lot of threads and opinions on BF stating the Pies were insane drafting Thomas at 2, Ellis was the best, Pendlebury should've gone higher etc.
ATM Thomas is being picked as a regular 18 player on form and not as a project player/blooding exercise. He's proved more durable and consistant than the number 1 pick or anyone else in that draft and shows manly courage despite looking like a 12 year old girl.
Its a little ungentlemanly to point out his selection appears justified at this stage, I suppose.
