What pisses me off is the government's complete knee jerk reaction to the executions. What good is pulling our ambassador to Indonesia going to do? Australia arguably need him more than Indonesia would.

That and them now criticising Indonesia on their human rights violations. Abbott does not have the right to criticise anyone on abuse of people's human rights with the way he is treating those seeking asylum.

Just found what I suspect to be a tumour on one of my cats :( I assume the vet will tell me it's best to put her down when I take her in, always tough, she's quite old, but still.

Hope so too mate, but doubt it. She's generally very timid, runs away from humans, but not at the moment - never a good sign.

My view on the deaths of the Bali 9 duo....

If the death penalty is in place and the offenders have exhausted all of their appeals then why continue to house them for years? Once their appeal process is over they should be executed as soon as legally responsible. I don't understand why you would continue to house felons on death row which comes at a cost to your government (and therefore the cost is bore by your law abiding citizens).

That said, I'm not at all in favor of the death penalty. Life sentences I can completely understand. Those who are repentant have a history of helping mentor, guide and assist those who are going to get out of prison. This is what was reported by a number of different agencies that both of these men were doing. Surely if they are doing things that have long term benefits to reforming other inmates that should outweigh their execution.

When I was living in the United States there was a report that five out of six prisoners committed crimes to put them back behind bars within 90 days. This document (http://www.unafei.or.jp/english/pdf/RS_No74/No74_12PA_Hidayati.pdf) claims that recidivism rates are extremely high and it was rising, almost doubling, year over year.

Surely having prisoners serving life sentences that are assisting others not to recidivate is better than killing those same people and eliminating a positive influence for those getting out.

As far as Australians doing life sentences or serving time for crimes committed overseas... I know for a fact that in the past five/six years there was an Australian Olympian serving time in one of the United States' state prisons and the Australian embassy had no idea he was even in there. It doesn't shock me that we rarely hear of other Australians on death row.

Exactly, and since it is criminal law in Saudi Arabia please answer my question.

Cheers Stamos :)
Well it has to be a legitimate question before I answer it, how is it criminal law? You get really excited about this saudi subject, It is the way it is over there and I don't understand why you are so concerned? I don't know why their women don't drive and neither does anybody else, what does this have to do with my original point?

I am old school.

Hate the FILTH pep. ;)
I'd argue that hating Essendon is old school.

In the beyond the blue book about our history there is a copy from a news paper in the 1930's that states Essendon is our rival

I think it's generational. My folks believe Collingwood are our biggest rivals yet most people my age think it's the Druggies.

Shame we are too crap to beat either of them!

Yep, still angry from Friday night! :(

I don't see how it's not a legitimate question. You said that laws are there for the protection of people, I asked you how a law such as women being prohibited from driving protects people.
How do laws are always for the protection of people?

Key word: CRIMINAL Law, not every law is for protection obviously but CRIMINAL law is, do we need to do another lap?
