I understand your frustration Rip It Up, but I think the games were moved based on Upwey and Gembrooks 2's and 18's, not Olinda or Mt Eve's. Upwey were originally scheduled to have their 2's play at Alex with the 1's at Healesville, however, being the highest ranked side with a 2's team also in the finals meant that their game was moved to match their 1's. For the U18's, even though Upwey have all 3 sides playing, Gembrook 1's finished higher than Upwey and therefore earnt the right to play at the same venue as their U18 team.

I don't have problem with the league changing games to match up 1's, 2's and U18's with those clubs who's 1's finished higher having first choice.

No one would have a problem if there from Olinda and Upwey. But it has effected other teams thats what im saying. I dont have a problem if it doesnt effect other teams. Ladder positions mean bugger all now it is now Qualifiying Finals and Elimination Finals who finished above who doesnt matter. I understand the league is in a difficult position but only if it allows to be put in a difficult position.

No special requests from us. We were already prepared for our 1s & 2s at separate venues. Upwey now has 1s & 2s at H'ville and 18s at Alex I think so they are affected.

Rip it up why not complicate it even more & add netball...
Some Winners some losers but in the end I think its better than separate days.

Ah the netball well the change worked out ok with us being with the netball side but have been told they have been moved to Healesville .

The system is fine it is just the changing around that s*#ts me. Why list ground venues leading upto to finals as being Elimination Finals & Qualifying Finals etc, etc if it is just going to be changed?

At the end of the day finals are finals and you play were ever you get told it's just the special treatment that some clubs seem to get is bulls&*t.

i gather your from woori,so how is your cousin going? are you guys still married!!! LOL:D
There we go that is what i expected, I was just pointing out to you Silvan wasn't the best side by a country mile , thats why i mentioned Woori no other reason, :D She is going well, thanks for asking, but she wont do the tricks your boyfriend does,:thumbsu:

Obviously a Mt Eve supporter - 2 clubs happy - Upwey and Olinda - one club not - 2 beats 1 - sounds logical.

Upwey still have to travel to Alex in the unders so not all perfect for Upwey.

So which clubs SEEM to get special treatment all the time, logic can prevail sometimes and should not be seen as favourtism except by the fantical club supporters - always go for the conspiracy theory.

Nah champ, Warby, look logic hasn't prevailed 2 clubs happy - 2 clubs unhappy in fact I cant speak for Mt Evelyn and Im not even speaking for Warby in that fact either, but just in my opinion the finals should have stayed as they were scheduled in this case.

At the end of the day it doesnt matter and all clubs will be training tonight and don't give a stuff were they are playing becuase there playing finals football.

Good Luck to all the teams except those playing Warby 18s, 2s and B grade netball :D.

Rip it up, I dont like what you are implying about special treatment for some clubs. This never comes into consideration. We try and keep as many teams together as possible bearing in mind that splitting teams means that the clubs need double suport staff and spectators are forced into making a decision as to what ground to go to first and then travel to the other ground. I can assure you that the numerious calls that I have had with steve trying to come up with the best possible outcome has had nothing to do with "special treatment". I do agree about advertising games as qualifying , elimination second semi etc as this tends to set peoples minds as such. from now on we will advertise which ground rather than game which allows us to review the teams competing. Please understand its not an easy process and we try and be as fair as possible to everyone .

Hows it better than seperate days?
Not sure about Warby but we dont have an endless supply of volunteers for trainers etc as well as asking families to be at multiple games over a weekend for Football and Netball.
Our club found One long day & maybe some travel is better than multiple days over a weekend.

Cagga, I personally can see the points you have raised as being issues and understand were you are coming from. The issue and Rip it Ups point we face now is that Warburtons unders and netballers play at Healesville and the reserves play 45 min away at Alex. I personally like to be there to support the Under 18s and I know most of the players do also. I also want to be there to watch the reserves.

Greame that comment was not directed at one or any clubs in specific, it was not meant to sound like it does, poor choice of words on my behalf. I do acknowledge that it is not an easy process and at times is easy to sit back a criticise than getting your hands dirty.
Yes my attitude has changed since yesterday:confused: maybe a little grumpy:D

YVMDFNL Netball Wrap - 21 and 22 August

Division One

Playing their final game of the 2010 season at home, the Woori Yallock girls lost to Gembrook Cockatoo at the weekend. As both teams won’t be making a finals appearance, a win would’ve been a great way to end the season – however, only one team could achieve this, and that was Gembrook Cockatoo, who won the game comfortably 43 – 25.

In what was to be the most exciting match of the round, Upwey Tecoma travelled to Wandin; and with this win, the Wandin girls have taken Upwey’s position of 2nd on the ladder. The game was close from the get-go, with the two teams being very close in skill and with their goallers being unbelievably accurate. Wandin won the game 52 – 45.

Being undefeated for the entire 2010 season, the Mount Evelyn girls defeated Olinda Ferny Creek at home at the weekend. Although the Olinda girls won’t be taking part in finals this season, the Mount Evelyn girls will have next week off as the other teams battle it out. The reigning premiers won the match 75 – 34.

To finish off round 18, the Monbulk girls hosted Warburton Millgrove at the weekend in a match that was marred by both rain and sunshine. However, nothing could stop the dominance of Monbulk as they played a great day in the varying conditions, with the visiting side losing the game 41 – 21 in which has seen the Warby girls miss out on this year’s finals.

Division Two Finals Series

Finishing 4th and 5th on the ladder, Emerald travelled to Yarra Junction at the weekend for the elimination final. Everything went right for the Emerald girls from the get-go, and this was a game the Yarra Junction girls couldn’t afford to lose. However, defensive pressure proved to be the difference between the two sides, and winning the match comfortably 73 – 21, the Emerald girls will now meet Seville next week.

In the qualifying final, Seville met Yea at the weekend. Having met previously in recent weeks, the tables were turned as Yea’s goallers shot accurately this time, as compared to the last time these two teams met. Winning the match 54 – 28, Yea will meet the reigning premiers in Powelltown, and Seville will be facing the well-performing Emerald side.

Division Two Finals Series

Seniors
It’s finals time with Division 2 qualifying and elimination finals played at Yarra Junction and Warburton. In the qualifying final Yarra Junction 15.12.102 defeated Seville 12.12.84. A great game of football with the result still in doubt deep into the last quarter. This game went goal for goal for the first 3 quarters with the biggest margin at any change just 8 points which was Seville’s margin at half time. Junction played an excellent 3rd quarter booting 6 goals to 4 to take a 6 point lead into the final quarter. The last quarter was a battle of the backlines but it was Junction’s that stood tall to finish the day with a terrific 18 point win. Yarra Junction now takes on Yarra Glen for a berth in the Grand Final while Seville has one more chance against Kinglake. Yarra Junction’s best: Travis Barton, Nicholas Syme and Travis Selby. Seville’s best: Matthew Crowle, Daniel Healy and Mark Cecere.

Kinglake 18.15.123 defeated Thornton Eildon 10.12.72. After a competitive start to the game, Kinglake took complete control after quarter time and made short work of Thornton. Kinglake held Thornton goalless in the 2nd term and at the half had a handy 30 point lead. Kinglake dominated the 3rd quarter booting 8.7 although Thornton did battle hard with 4 majors of their own. With Kinglake leading by 55 points at the last change the result had been determined, however, to Thornton’s credit they did fight on to outscore Kinglake in the last quarter providing some respectability to their score. Kinglake will now take on Seville next week in a last chance final while Thornton looks towards to 2011. Kinglake’s best: Jayden Butterworth, Damian Pywell and Jarrad Heal. Thornton Eildon’s best: Chris Boxtel, Daniel Creed and Shane Parker (5 goals).

Reserves
Seville 15.13.103 defeated Kinglake 3.3.21. Seville pretty much had it all their own way against a Kinglake side that couldn’t find any run. Seville didn’t have a big scoring quarter by any means but it was the fact that they held Kinglake to just 1.2 in the first half while they scored 6.8. The 2nd half was more of the same; Kinglake could only kick 2 goals for the half while Seville booted 9 second half goals to win by a massive 82 points. Seville now takes on Yarra Glen next week for a chance to go through to the Grand Final while Kinglake get one more chance against Emerald. Seville’s best: Matt Adams (5 goals), Luke Clarke and Lachlan Mountjoy. Kinglake’s best: Nathan Wearne, Aaron Westworth.

Emerald 13.10.88 defeated Alexandra 4.4.28. Emerald continues on with their finals campaign after a convincing 10 goal win over Alexandra. It was an even opening with Emerald leading by just 7 points at quarter time but Emerald took control from then on as they stretched the lead at every change. Alex could only muster another 2 goals after quarter time while Emerald added 10 with 4 of them coming in the last quarter to finish the game off in good style. Emerald now takes on Kinglake next week in a sudden death final. Emerald’s best: Jon Lanyon (6 goals), Damien Rozenboom and Steven Paull. Alexandra’s best: Lee Ragg, Peter Wandmaker and Bart Wallace.

Under 18
Yarra Glen 10.9.69 defeated Emerald 6.9.45. This game was a real slog in the first half with both sides finding it hard to hit the scoreboard. Yarra Glen booted 3 goals in the first quarter to Emerald’s 2 but it was the second quarter that was the real battle of the backlines as neither side scored a goal for the entire quarter. At the half it was Yarra Glen by 7 points. The team that could string a couple of goals together was always going to have the upper hand and that team was Yarra Glen as they played an inspired 3rd quarter booting 5 goals to Emerald’s 2 to take a handy 4 goal lead into the last quarter. The margin wasn’t large but with goals so hard to come by Emerald couldn’t bridge the gap as both teams kicked 2 goals in the final term to see Yarra Glen run out 4 goal winners. Yarra Glen will now play Seville for the right to play in the Grand Final while Emerald gets another chance against Kinglake. Yarra Glen’s best: Ben Ashton, Sean Baeath and Hayden Devanny. Emerald’s best: Mathew Dompietro, Adam McGrath and Brody Stephenson.

Kinglake 8.7.55 defeated Alexandra 4.8.32. Kinglake started the better but didn’t punish Alex on the scoreboard as they booted 2.4 to Alex’s 1 behind in the opening term. Alex booted 2 goals to 1 in the second quarter to get within 7 points at the half and this game was well and truly up for grabs. Both teams booted just 1 goal in the 3rd term and despite this game not being high scoring the closeness of the scores made this an enthralling encounter. It was Kinglake that finally strung a couple of majors together and showed just a little more poise than Alexandra to eventually run out 23 point winners. Kinglake’s best: John Burns, Jacob Styles and Daniel Coburn. Alexandra’s best: Zachary Vincent, Bart Wallace and Sam Woollard.

Division One

Monbulk 11.11.77 defeated Warburton Millgrove 9.5.59. The big question of the day was whether Scott Muir of Warby could boot 10 goals to bring up his 100th, unfortunately Warby didn’t muster 10 goals between them for the day, Scott however did produce 4 of his teams 9 goals. There wasn’t much in this game for the entire day with no more than 2 goals separating the sides. Warby kicked the only 2 goals of the 1st quarter in a scrappy opening but it was Monbulk that produced a 6 goal to 3 2nd term to take an 11 point lead into half time. The 2nd half was a hard fought affair with both teams desperate to finish with a win and despite Warby trying valiantly to wrestle back the lead it was Monbulk that hung on to the narrow lead at the final siren. Monbulk’s best: Adam Gee, Luke McCormick and Chris Mitchell. Warburton Millgrove’s best: Liam Barnard, Carl Morgan and James Iacono.

Mount Evelyn 20.15.135 defeated Olinda Ferny Creek 17.13.115. Mount Evelyn got off to a great start booting 6 goals to 2 in the first quarter and racing to a 25 point lead. The 2nd quarter was a beauty with 13 goals scored but it was Mount Evelyn that had the better of it booting 8 majors and at half time The Mounters had stretched the lead to 44 points. Olinda came out after the half and played more accountable football; they took the game on to claw their way back to within striking distance after a 6 goal to 3 quarter to reduce the margin to 26 points at the last change. Olinda kept coming at Mount Evelyn in the last quarter and did outscore their opponents 4 goals to 3 to fall short by 20 points. These sides will meet again next week in an Elimination Final. Mount Evelyn’s best: Chris Haworth, Benjamin Farrugia and Michael Smith. Olinda Ferny Creek’s best: Owen Millwood, Garrett McDonald and Owen Raszkiewics.

Healesville 20.8.128 defeated Silvan 10.23.83. Silvan virtually kicked themselves out of the game in the first quarter when they booted 4.10. Healesville only had 4 scoring shots but they ended the quarter with a score of 3.1 which kept them in touch. Healesville showed the importance of straight kicking in the 2nd quarter as they played one of their best quarters for the season producing 10.4 and holding Silvan to just 1.2 and all of a sudden the margin had blown out to 41 points. Silvan did have plenty of chances in the second half but their inaccuracy haunted them for the entire day while Healesville’s accuracy was the reason for their 45 point victory. Healesville’s best: Sam Turner, Ashley Hamer (6 goals), and Simon Gordon (5 goals). Silvan’s best: Stephen Andrews, Jake Straughair and David Bissels.

Upwey Tecoma 14.7.91 defeated Wandin 10.9.69. Upwey was always expected to win this game but they had to fight tooth and nail for their victory. This game never really reached any great highs but it was an enthralling encounter as the hardness of the contest was great to witness. After an even first quarter with Wandin leading by just 1 point it was Upwey that slowly got on top but by no means in complete control. Upwey lead by just 15 points at the last change and an upset was a distinct possibility. Upwey did hold off a gritty Wandin side that will be huge improvers in 2011. Upwey Tecoma’s best: Steven Brotja, Blair Sheppard and Sam Waters. Wandin’s best: Tom Goodwin, David Crellin and Mathew Peterson.

Woori Yallock 10.14.74 defeated Gembrook Cockatoo 5.7.37. Woori Yallock will go into the finals with great confidence after finishing the season on top and beating second placed Gembrook by 37 points. Woori held just a 9 point lead at half time and it looked like a great second half of football was in store however Woori booted 5 goals to Gembrook’s 1 to stretch their lead to 34 points. The last quarter was a non event as neither side scored a major which didn’t concern Woori as they ended up running out comfortable if not convincing winners. Woori Yallock’s best: Patrick Sharp, Tom Van Veen and Dallas Spencer. Gembrook Cockatoo’s best: Craig Clarke, Shannon Richardson and Shane Williams.

Good idea that each game is going to be on DVD for the clubs to use next year. I am lead to believe that each club has a weekly cost to video the game, which I believe is fair. However if the quality of the filming of the game is going to be the same as what I have seen on the internet then it would be disappointing. I am sure each club could get a volunteer with a video camera and film at the same quality for nothing.

Gee, reading the above article, it would appear that Upwey were lucky they were playing such ordinary opposition on the weekend or they would have been thumped.

Not often that a team dominates the entire day in every aspect of footy but comes up short.

I think by this assessment Woori should beat the brookers quite comfortable this week and i am sure that Upwey will smash Mt Evelyn as they surely couldn't dominate two weeks in a row and lose.....could they?

Awesome last quarter effort from Seville yesterday, turned out being one of the best games ive ever watched. The boys showed a lot of charater in the secont half but heartbreaking that we couldnt come away with the win in the end. I guess Kinglake did the hard work in firsthalf and it was always gonna be tough coming back from 40 points behind at 3 quarter time.

Also interesting reading the latest bit of dribble from the leagues number one f*ckwit Wazza in the record. How does he come to the conclusion that issues with the league have affected the form of the team? Has he been down to the club and spoken to the coaches and players?

More than likely he is just reading the results and making up sh*t.

Clarkey41 can talk in the 3rd person and make up sh*t. Can clarkey41 get his own article in the record next year?

I have to agree Broken Bone. I think the concept is sensational and the powers that be need to be applauded for that, but if i was to give some 'need to improves' it would be

1. The standard of the filming as it is at very very budget range(gives you a headache following it).

and

2. The highlights package containing more actual play rather than just the marks in the forward line - 20 seconds of a player lining up for goal - and then kicking it.

I am not knocking it, just giving my opinion on it. I think it is fantastic that they are doing it and i am sure the league is just trialing it this finals and working towards the best product for next year. How long would you give until all other comps copy the iniative and have the same thing?

I needed a laugh this morning (this being a Monday and all), and reading this provided just the tonic!

I swear I must have been at a different game to the one described by the Upwey correspondent in this "article". Although in fairness, if I was going somewhere to read a balanced and unbiased review of Saturday's game, the Upwey web site probably wouldn't have been my first port of call.

I too am not knocking the concept. I think it is fantastic and the idea of having highlights on the internet for others to watch is great. However as a tool for the clubs to use, show their players and educate them I think it is a bit off the mark. After all the clubs are contributing to the cost each week. I dont think the filming covers enough of the play or focus on the right areas at the right time. But lets hope this finals series can iron out a few problems.

RHT & Broken Bone thanks for the feedback. As you both point out its early days and we went live as soon as we could to see how it worked and iron out problems before going live next year. Having said that the guys filming are spending an enormous amount of time on the taping and then doing the highlights package and they are to be congratulated. Maybe we need to experiment from where we tape the games. Anyway is Work In Progress and we will get better at it. Thanks for the feedback

Could'nt agree more McCavity.A little bit of arrogance in the pen for sure.Gembrook were all over them like a fat boy on a jelly bean.Scores should have indicated a much bigger win for the Brooka.Fair dinkum some people are biased.l will say though it was a great game played in great spirit and umpired very well.Dont you just love finals.
