Persistent rumours on the Benalla and District Football League thread that Bonnie Doon will join the YVMDFL next year with that league to be no longer.
One thread suggested that Bonnie Doon were to make a presentation to the YVMDFL this week ? Anyone have any information if this is correct or not ?
Obviously they would be in Divvy 2 and this would create a bye (unless another side also came in from somewhere) and I would be fairly confident that most southern sides would not be happy with the extra 50 odd km trip past Alex

What's everyne thoughts on this ?

I think with more sides in the comp the stronger the league will get however if this happens surely the gurus at head office would have to seriously consider a name change for the league.....any ideas:rolleyes:

Well if it keeps going like it is I'd suggest BDRBSFFL - Beyond Dandenong Ranges Before Snow Fields Football League ;)

What if the YVMFL were to add a 3rd division and divide it into North / South for Div 2?

Swanpool,Boonie Doon, Yea, Alex, Thornton Eildon, Powelltown, Yarra Junction, and Kinglake into Div 2 North and the rest remain in Div 2 south

Premiers out of both divisions go up which means you lose 2 out of Div 1 back to Div 2. Teams back into Div 2 from Div 1 go to the closest geographic area

and just remember it has the word district in the name so you can take any team and add them. :D

Also juniors have put in & the ground was a mess last weekend. It needs a break & some smarter thinking from the leagues (YV & MDFL) in fixturing would help us to consider it.
Bloody unbelievable the ground looked a sensation last night the old mountain soil has better Recuperative powers than Armin Richter:thumbsu:
Huge thanks for Limited ground use by coaches & Hewy upstairs for blowing a gail this week.

So what happens if Upwey and Monbulk both finish bottom in divy 1, or Wandin and Silvan? Who goes to the further league? Or will they just change teams about to make it work (whichh would defeat the purpose of the relegation system if the league just shuffles clubs around anyway). Given that in the last few years the teams that have gone down have dominated divy 2, sending the second last team down is only going to make it worse.

I'm all for making the league stronger with new teams, but surely we have to be realistic about the reaches of our league and be aware of the extra stress that new teams, 2-3 hours away from the traditional 'mountain' and 'valley' clubs, bring.

Perhaps their rationale is that they won't be playing on the same day as the AFL preliminary finals and the EFL first division GF - and that we'll get a bigger crowd as a result.

Why worry about the AFL and other local leagues - it is our leagues showcase and I gaurantee that the sides competing won't give a rats clacker about outside influences.

Has to be on a Saturday as it is pretty hard to throw a sickie on the Monday when your boss reads your team won the flag the day before.

Unless they are involved it must be at Woori and on a Saturday preferably.

Good on ya Lemon Chicken, How many premierships has your club won since 1992? (thats if have the guts to nominate which club that is, i doubt it!) And i would happily accept a few wooden spoons as long the flags are in greater number, we've had 1 spoon in that time, im sure you can work out how many flags we've won, Champ

Touchy Touchy

Silvan buy a couple of flags a majority of their supporters treat everyone with disdain, and now the sticks got a bit pointier the going gets a bit tough for the pussies

Harden up ;)

As stated closest team to locations based on roads to areas not as the crow flies. Wandin would go North and Silvan South. Its pretty simple.
Just a point to make Echuca and Rochester travel to Mansfield once a year in the GV. A good 2.5 hour trip so why cant once a year any other team in Victoria do it?

hmmmmm from a selfish perspective id prefer they didnt enter the league as it would mean another road trip and a bye in division two...... just out of curiosity how long does it take to drive from thornton to bonnie doon?

Once a year?
Alexandra, Thornton, Yea + Bonnie Doon.
Fair trips for the ''southerners'' of the league

not being selfish probably just being realistic by the way craffles where have you been and wheres totally true:p:D

Not everyone lives in the towns that they play for. With some players already driving 40+mins to get to home games. Div 2 teams are trying to build up successful teams to not only get into Div 1 but too stay there. It's hard enough to get good players to clubs without being seen as poaching from other local teams.
While other leagues are geographically very large and spaced apart, we have a neighbor called the EFL which is very close by. If we had 6 large away trips a year, the easy choice for a lot of young players would be to defect.
While i'm sure making the league bigger has some benefits, the YVMDFL isn't and never will be The AFL so expansion shouldn't be a number one priority.

I would think yarra junction and powelltown would fold if they had to travel that far every 2nd week

That's a great point Flying High. It can be hard enough for clubs sitting in Divi 2 to try & recruit new blokes to the club before they mention that of the 9 other sides in the comp, the manority are a fair hike & you will easily spend $50 in petrol just to play. All of a sudden they want some coin to play - at least travel money. So does the next player, and the next & all of a sudden 2nd divi clubs are having to pay out more for average players than 1st divi clubs have to pay for top liners. And without any salary cap on the league, this could go anywhere. Not many clubs have a magnetic pointer to align its self with sponsor wealth - although a few have ;)

And the EFL factor is real. South Belgrave have already left - before Kinglake & Yea even came in. One would think the clubs on the EFL boundary, particulary 2nd divi clubs like Belgrave & Emerald would look at it from a long term financial & survival perspective

not being selfish probably just being realistic by the way craffles where have you been and wheres totally true:p:D

ive been avoiding tipping because i have blind faith in my club and we have disappointing to say the least... it's been a tough year down at the maggies!

good to read your boys are hosting a final? drove past their the other day on my way to the pig & whistle for some lunch and the ground looked a treat

not being selfish probably just being realistic by the way craffles where have you been and wheres totally true:p:D

Just a keystroke away Sid. I was going mention earlier that having the son of the league's CEO playing at your club and an ex President on the board is starting to pay dividends, but I didn't want to appear petty :D.

On reflection, I think it's great of the league to share the finals around and I hope everything goes well (you never know, the Shire might even unblock that poor excuse for a public toilet at the back of your rooms. Just imagine if you hosted a grand final; they might even supply toilet paper!)

ive said it before if any other teams are gonna come in changes need to be made. it would probably take a couple of years to sort itself out but would eventually rival mpnfl that has 3 divisions but no promotions.

Mountain District
Upwey, Belgrave, Olinda, Belgrave, Emerald, Gembrook, Monbulk, Silvan

Yarra Valley
Warburton, Yarra Junction, Powelltown, Seville, Wandin, Mt Evelyn, Woori Yallock

Great Divide
Thornton, Alex, Bonnie Doon, Yea, Kinglake, Yarra Glen, Healsville

This way would keep all the big rivalry games that bring the big crowds and the draw could be worked so that the longest trips only play each other twice. maybe the valley could entice coldstream in to make 8 and the mountain district could entice sth belgrave back for geographical reasons.

Craffles,
Thornton to Bonnie Doon is about 60kms and takes about 40 - 45 mins to get there about the same time it takes to get to Healesville

Football Wrap 8th August
1st Division

Monbulk 14.13.97 defeated Healesville 13.12.90. A great game put on by these 2 teams with nothing in it all day. Monbulk have been brilliant of late as Healesville’s form has been up and down. Monbulk would have been expected to win this game quite comfortably but the Bloods found some of their early season form and almost pulled off a victory over one of the flag favorites. These sides could meet again in finals and if this game was any indication of what to expect then the crowd are in for a real treat. Monbulk’s best: Jared Devers, Shannon Koole and Michael Hughson. Healesville’s best: Casey Adams, Beau Wilkinson and Matthew Fraraccio.

Warburton Millgrove 15.12.102 defeated Silvan 14.7.91. Warby got off to a flying start kicking 7.4 to Silvan’s 2.1 in the first term and looked in for a comfortable day. Silvan slowly clawed their way back into the game with an outstanding performance from Owen Weatherley who ended the day with 8 goals. Warby can thank their first quarter for the win as Silvan looked the better side in the last 3 quarters but their start to the game most probably cost them victory. Warby’s best: Michael Walker, Vincent Muccitelli and Shawn Andueza. Silvan’s best: Dean Carswell, Owen Weatherley and Stephen Andrews.

Upwey Tecoma 28.11.179 defeated Mount Evelyn 14.8.92. Upwey have certainly stamped themselves as the true flag favorite after an emphatic win over Mount Evelyn. Not only did Upwey start with a 10 goal quarter but they also finished full of running kicking another 10 goals in the last. Upwey’s Wade Porter had a day out kicking 12 goals in an inspirational display. Upwey’s best: Wade Porter, Liam Burke and Lucas Matthews. Mount Evelyn’s best: Cameron Buckland, Steven Tesoriero and Jon Dalton.

Wandin 18.17.125 defeated Alexandra 17.10.112. Wandin won their second game in a row with a come from behind victory over Alex. Alex looked the goods at half time with a 14 point lead but Wandin played a terrific 3rd quarter kicking 7.3 and holding Alex to 2 goals. Alex did outscore Wandin in the final term 5 goals to 4 but never looked in the hunt after half time. Wandin’s best: Adam Oxley, Andrew Goodwin and Mark Seeger. Alexandra’s best: Brayden Norris, Luke Heard and Adam Oakley.

Woori Yallock 19.15.129 defeated Gembrook Cockatoo 13.17.95. Woori held a 40 point lead at quarter time and looked in for a percentage booster. Gembrook can play some excellent footy and they proved that in the last 3 quarters and did outscore Woori by 1 goal. Even though Woori would have been a bit disappointed with the last 3 quarters it was a tough hard game that will hold them in good stead come finals. Woori’s best: Danny Ryan, Michael Riseley and Patrick Sharp. Gembrook’s best: Andrew Shipp, Ricky Clark and Nathan Muratore.

2nd Division

Emerald 24.12.156 defeated Powelltown 10.6.66. Emerald never looked in trouble from the outset as they ran all over Powelltown with a great team performance. Powelltown did try hard but they didn’t have any answers for a team that is priming itself for finals. Emerald finished the day with an 8 goal quarter to win comfortably and will be giving themselves every chance come finals. Emerald’s best: Steven Wright, Thomas Williams and Kristian Fidanza. Powelltown’s best: Russell Cowan, Luke Darwall and Lindon Walker.

Thornton Eildon 9.8.62 defeated Belgrave 6.10.46. This game was the battle for the wooden spoon and unfortunately for Belgrave they look to have taken it out with only one game to go. This game was no great spectacle and you couldn’t mistake this game for nothing more than a bottom of the ladder clash. Both sides would be shattered with their season and will be looking forward to seeing next week out and starting a fresh over the summer months. Thornton Eildon’s best: Zachary Carden, Adam Mclean and Daniel Creed. Belgrave’s best: David Bilston, Benjamin Harris and Tim Riley.

Kinglake 23.13.151 defeated Yarra Glen 8.5.53. For 3 quarters Yarra Glen was quite sharp and took it right up to Kinglake. Yarra Glen trailed by 5 goals at the last change before Kinglake kicked into action finishing the day with a superb 12 goal final term. Kinglake’s finish to games has been nothing short of brilliant which will give them confidence in any game they find themselves behind in knowing that they can come home with a flourish. Kinglake’s best: James Walker, Adam Butterworth and Jacob Sibenaler. Yarra Glen’s best: Leigh Hoffman, David Watt and Ethan Shaw.

Yarra Junction 15.11.101 defeated Seville 9.8.62. Yarra Junction bounced back after last weeks shock loss to Yarra Glen. Seville’s form has been all over the place of late and they will be worried coming into finals with no consistency. Junction only held sway by 13 points at half time but their 7 goal to 2 third term put an end to any hope that Seville may have had. It’s a bit hard to put a form line on Yarra Junction but if they play at their best come finals they could cause some damgage. Yarra Junction’s best: Brad Charman, Daniel Edwards and Travis Barton. Seville’s best: Mark Cerece, Leigh Aitkins and Dean Troyahn.

Olinda Ferny Creek 38.15.243 defeated Yea 2.2.14. Olinda showed no mercy as they absolutely smashed a hapless Yea. Olinda had 16, yes 16 separate goal scorers, 11 of them kicked 2 goals or more. Yea on the other hand only had the 1 goal scorer and both of their goals were scored in the first quarter. Olinda will be hoping for a lot harder hit out next week against Junction before their assault on the flag begins. Olinda’s best: Benjamin Day, Michael Scott and Mark Stevens. Yea’s best: Jake Connell, Patrick McKenna and Chris Graham.

Under 18’s Football Wrap
Division 1 & 2 Combined
August 8th

Powelltown (D2) 8.9.57 defeated Emerald (D2) 5.15 45. Bad kicking is bad football and Emerald found that out as they kicked themselves out of the game after half time scoring a very inaccurate 1.9. Powelltown took their opportunities in the second half kicking 4.4 to continue a promising season from the Powelltown boys. Powelltown’s best: Jayden Mullan, Aaron Wilkes and Phillip Cowan. Emerald’s best: Matthew Livermore, Kieren Roberts and Nicholas Lang.

Healesville (D1) 11.12.78 defeated Monbulk (D1) 9.8.62. A great come from behind win from Healesville as they were behind by 21 points at the first change and hadn’t kicked a goal. The Bloods kicked 11 goals to 5 after quarter time to win in a very entertaining game. Healesville’s best: Nick Wenhuda, Tom Costigan and Wade Samudi. Monbulk’s best: Benjamin Bedford-Lee, Sam Whittington and Darcy Jones.

Upwey Tecoma (D1) 11.13.79 defeated Mount Evelyn (D1) 9.9.63. A close game right to the end with both teams giving it everything. Upwey had just a little more polish than Mount Evelyn which eventually got them over the line. Upwey’s best: Tom Barnard, Daniel Waters and Jackson Lucas, Mount Evelyn’s best: Samuel Harrod, Callum Urquhart and Jayden Clarke.

Gembrook Cockatoo (D1) 6.13.49 defeated Woori Yallock (D1) 6.8.44. Gembrook came from behind to upset Woori Yallock by 5 points. Woori could only manage 2 behinds in the last quarter and although Gembrook kicked an inaccurate 2.5 it was enough to give them a heart stopping win. Gembrook’s best: Jason Bova, David Cracknell and Damien Rozenboom.

Alexandra (D1) 17.15.117 defeated Kinglake (D2) 5.3.33. Kinglake started well and held a 5 point lead at quarter time. Alexandra started to find their run and outscored Kinglake in each of the last 3 quarters with their last quarter being the best of them kicking 7 goals.
Alexandra’s best: Stephen Steiner, Nicholas Armstrong and Grant Halligan. Kinglake’s best: Tyler Mcdonald, Thomas Sibinaler and John Burns.

Seville (D2) 18.19.127 defeated Yarra Junction (D2) 3.4.22. Seville was outstanding as they never gave Junction a look in right from the outset. At quarter time Junction hadn’t score and if not for some inaccurate kicking from Seville the 31 point margin should have been greater. Junction did manage to score 3 goals after quarter time but Seville slammed on another 14 to win handsomely. Seville’s best: Thomas Groen, Tim Nankervis and Michael Gavric. Yarra Junction’s best: Elliott Chris, Devon Collins and Daniel Robert Beaven.

Netball Wrap, 8th August
DIVISION ONE

Wandin Football and Netball club had a great round all over the board this week, but the netball stood out. Defeating Alexandra by 19 goals, (21-40) Wandin felt they could do no wrong. Whist Alex has been consistently showing improvement, they were unable to get the ball to their goalers as often as needed. As far as Wandin was concerned, Alexandra’s defence had a few gaps as well, with the shooters scoring well. Sharmini-Jane Philp shot 22 goals, Courtney McDonald shot 9 goals, Hayley Thompson shot 5 goals and Kate Upton shot 4 goals. For Alexandra, Emma Kidd shot 12 goals, and Skye McDonald shot 9 goals.

Upwey Tecoma hosted Mount Evelyn this week, for an interesting game. With Mount Evelyn coming off the back of last weekend’s incredible match, Upwey had a confidence barrier to compete with, as well as skills. However they pulled Mount Evelyn back to earth, and whilst Mount Evelyn did walk away with the win, they didn’t give it up easily. The final score read Upwey 35, Mount Evelyn 56. Kate Youlton shot 34 goals, and Sarah Hogan shot 22 goals. For Upwey, Michelle Tomlinson shot 29 goals, and Emma Hedge shot 6.

Monbulk travelled to Healesville this weekend, for a rather pleasant day. With the sun shining, the slight wind was a welcome coolant for the players. The game started out well for both, as they kept the pressure up. It was hard to tell who was winning for some parts. However at the final whistle, Monbulk had the win in their hands, 46 – 24. For Monbulk, Rachael Jennings shot 26 goals, and Jamie Sands 20. For Healesville, Corrine Tesselaar shot 12 goals, Louise Farrow shot 9 goals, and Elizabeth Kay shot 3 goals.

DIVISION TWO

Yarra Glen hosted Kinglake this round, at their indoor court. In what was a very low scoring game, both team’s defence was working over time, as they consistently turned the ball over, intercepted, and stopped the ball from getting to the shooters. Whilst this was frustrating to both teams, it worked better for Kinglake, as they scored 19 goals, to Yarra Glen’s 15 goals. Claire McMahon shot 13 goals for Kinglake, and Sally Nott shot 6. For Yarra Glen, Julie Thompson shot 8 goals, and Tanya Moate shot 7 goals.

Emerald had a great game this week, playing against Powelltown. Whilst they could not manage to beat them, they certainly scared them a touch. Coming quite close to their oppositions score many times, they eventually lost by 8 goals. (Powelltown: 41, Emerald: 33) Commendations go to Emerald however, for a great effort. Kim Walker shot 17 goals, Beverley White shot 10 and Rachel Fox shot 6 goals. For Powelltown, Samantha Hansen continues to show just how good she is, shooting 25 goals this week, and Stephanie Broadway close behind with 16 of her own.

Olinda Ferny Creek travelled to Yea this week, to face an unpredictable team. Yea have shown some great netball this year, and have also had some moments they may rather forget. However this round, they were all form, and played some great netball. Olinda put in a lot of hard work, but were a bit behind the 8 ball, so to speak. For Olinda, Lucy Allman had a fantastic round, shining in every light, as she shot 30 goals this week. Melanie Walter shot 4 goals, and Natalie Sloan 3 goals, to bring Olinda’s total to 37. For Yea, Amanda Akers, Cindy Hayes and Rhiannon Aldous comprised the 52 goals that led their team to victory.

Yarra Junction had probably the closest game of this round, against Seville. Played at Yarra Junction, the score read 38 – 33, Yarra Junction’s win. Seville had a good play early on, however Junction were consistent and controlled in their efforts to win. For Junction, Rebecca Osiurak shot 20 goals, Leirna Kasso shot 11 goals, and Georgia Stanke shot 7 goals. For Seville, Zoe Abbruzzese shot 21 goals, and Melanie Allen shot 12 goals.
