If they all had 50 games under their belt, and were playing with some consistency and confidence, yes. The talent's there, but whether it can be realised is another question. :)

I happen to think missing out of such important draft picks the talent is not there. You have a handful of talented lads mixed in with several recycled hacks.

A few years at the bottom is needed.

Ooohhhh... this'll be good fellas! parrot and Bentleigh in a battle of the intellects! :D

McGrath was traded for Murphy, so no, he did not cost Carlton young players at the draft.

However Bowyer was drafted with pick 63 in the draft.
You could have had Brent Hartigan, Shane Tuck or even Aaron Davey who went in the rookie draft with that pick.

Carlton also took Ricky Mott with their pick before Bowyer. Between Mott and Bowyer went, Ben Hudson, Julian Rowe, Rischitelli. So I don't quite buy this, "didn't cost us young players in the draft" line.

But it seems Pagan's theory at times is to take a punt on a mature player rather than a kid.

The only postive thing coming out of the young Blues....

Yeap.....

And if the Sun aligns with the moon, and the Van Halen Belt above the Earth is at its furtherst distance from Oz, and if the local Carlton lasses give all former Carlton players (playing > 100 games) a good roggerring, in order to have a plethora of Future F/S drafts, and if the Carlton Milkman hadn't of delivered his milk some 5 years ago, it would'n't have led to a chain of events that led to Silvagni retiring.....

Parrot, quick, to the bat phone... send in the:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance!

Can someone name me a positive from the Blues list?

Some of the youngesters will be great players (IE Waite, Fisher, Thornton, Walker etc), Fevola is an 80 goal a year foward (when he's got his head on)
Most of the other dead wood will be culled at season's end.
We beat Essendon :D

I'll take a risk and attempt to debate the pros and cons of Fevola seriously in this thread, hopefully it won't turn into more flames...

Fevola is seriously talented, no one can argue that. He's capable of kicking bags of goals and he's difficult to match up on because of his speed, strength and marking ability. However when loses it, like he did on the weekend, what sort of effect do you think it's having on his teammates, especially the younger ones? Pagan does the right thing by immediately dragging him but do you think his positives outweigh his negatives or the other way around?

Another angle to look at Fev is that everyone laments the fact that no longer have the personalities playing AFL like we did in the VFL days. Fevola definitely is a big personality (ego, some would say), is he good or bad for the AFL?

We have beaten the Dees twice in our previous 3 encounters you recall. Yes, lots of young talent, but badly need experience of course. :)

Actually you have beaten Melbourne once in the last seven games. Wizard Cup doesnt count you twit. I thought that would have been the biggest lesson learnt by Carlton fans this year

Yes we do have some bit-part players, but we need them because apart from a few older players like Kouta, Campo and Lappin, our list is very young and inexperienced. While players like Bowyer, and McGrath aren't stars, they're in their mid 20's and have strong bodies and add some stability. These guys did not cost us young players in the draft I should add. I agree re. Chambers. Definitely not a hack, and got at least 2 injuries this year, on both occasions when he was running into some form. Very fast, with long kicking ability. Longmuir I'm not sure about. Didn't cost us much, seems to have natural ability but has missed goals which have cost us. Who should we offload, not sure - probably Morell, Clarke, Bowyer, Sporn. Not sure about Wiggins - sometimes he's good, other times he's ordinary. Brad Fisher's one to watch out for. This guy is an unbelievable mark, and unlike Karl has a sensational attitude. He's deceptively tall - around 193-4cm and like Karl is quick. More of a forward that backline player. Shame Hartlett injured his knee. He's a 6'5" KP forward with some flair and a booming kick - could turn out to be very good. While we've got some great young players, our team is terribly unbalanced at present. Most of our younger players are mobile 6'3"-6'5" types, we really need smaller in-an-under midfield types. Hopefully young Blackwell will fill that role. Rasso is another exciting young tall - about 6'3", who we picked up early, and was rumoured to have gone top-20 this year if he delayed his entry into the draft. Lots for Denis to work with. With all this inexperience around, it's so important that players like Fev's don't dummy spit - he really needs to set an example to our young playing group. He's just real frustrated with his injury and where the Blues are at the moment. He gets a lot of bad press, but Fev loves playing for the Blues without doubt. :)

Oh My.
A post by parrot that is semi-sensible.
The point you have made that makes sense is Carlton has to play some of the lesser players because they aren't as talented but they provide a contest and have some experience that the younger players don't. IMO picking up so many older players has hurt Carlton because they could have maybe got some rookies or something. Should be a big list cleanout this year.
