Haven't seen it - to do so would break my "no Jim Carrey movies" ruleEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the exception that proves the rule.
I watched Truman Show for school so that tainted my enjoyment. Haven't seen Liar Liar. The Truman Show is also great.
Liar Liar aside I didn’t love most of his comedies.

Which ones have you seen?Haven't seen it - to do so would break my "no Jim Carrey movies" rule
The old ones - the Mask, the Cable Guy, Ace Ventura, Dumb and DumberWhich ones have you seen?
I agree with all those except Dumb and Dumber. The old ones - the Mask, the Cable Guy, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber
My cousins were big fans and would always put his movies on during sleepovers. It was horrible.
I love doing both but I agree that live theatre is better. I'm looking forward to Chicago coming back, plus Tina is coming to Melbs next year yewwww

Hmmm maybe I should give it a goI think the thing about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is that Jim Carrey was very much playing against type, playing a more understated role.
In that way, I think it still has an enormous amount of fans today, where the 90s comedies are probably at best “you had to be there” relics of a period when he was inexplicably considered the funniest man in the world.
It’s also extremely well written and directed, very touching and has a reliably great performance from Kate Winslet.
I liked him in The Truman Show... but for the most part, I agree with you.Jim Carrey movies are all terrible, every single one of 'em. It's just some dickhead pulling stupid faces - yawn fest
At the time, The Cable Guy was considered against type because he was playing the villain. It certainly has a bit more depth than Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber. The against type stuff until Number 23 was generally pretty good. Truman Show in particular is a masterpiece.
Of the more typical Carrey comedy vehicles, I’m a fan of Cable Guy, the first two acts through the dripping dumping is top tier, kinda Hollywood Pynchon, that’s my hangout flick from him. Some of his other comedies are fine, but that’s my pick of the bunch, just has a little bit more going on than a high concept or antics overdrive.
Fair. Liar Liar is a real staple 90s comedy, probably aged poorly but i always enjoy it.I watched Truman Show for school so that tainted my enjoyment. Haven't seen Liar Liar.
I thought Number 23 was awful personally but it is againt type. The Majestic is also serious Carrey and hes good in it but its... fine. Was in that run of every shitty book being made a movie and its and Hearts in Atlantis i always forget which is which. The against type stuff until Number 23 was generally pretty good. Oh i thought it was awful too, I meant that’s when the against-type stuff went south. Schumacher’s films tend to have a ceiling (Flatliners might be my fave and it’s a mere 7/10 for me), he has a couple turkeys like Number 23.I thought Number 23 was awful personally but it is againt type. Exactly, he isn’t the protagonist I guess compared to most of his vehicles, more of an overbearing 90s style antagonist. At the time, The Cable Guy was considered against type because he was playing the villain. It certainly has a bit more depth than Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber.
Thought the fact Reality shows are still on means they must still be rating. Hopefully all downhill. And I thought Marvel was widely popularI disagree with all 3 but are the bottom 2 actually hot? Thats almost the popular opinion at this point isnt it?
I think they rate well and make money but most people tend to say they hate them (much like big bang theory). I think they make money cause they are mostly cheap to make.Thought the fact Reality shows are still on means they must still be rating. Hopefully all downhill. Marvel was (but even at its peak it had a tonne of detractors saying it was ruining cinema) since the endgame peak most people think it’s declined pretty massively.
I enjoyed Top Gun Maverick as a piece of fun cinematic nostalgia, but the story is simplistic, it has the emotional depth of a child's wading pool, the acting is average and the fawning over it is absurd. The fact it got a Best Picture nomination is laughable. Like, it's a textbook example of how to make a legacy film if your only interest is pleasing fans of the original with no intent to take it forward, but other than that, nah... it's just popcorn fare.I think ‘corny predictable’ is a fair statement towards TGM but the ‘rubbish’ I don’t agree with. Film has a few flaws holding it back like some of those scenes with Connelly/Kilmer and the detracting soundtrack, but otherwise it’s very enjoyable and decent for a modern blockbuster.
The fact there are like 265 films nominated for Best Picture is laughable. It should be 5, and 5 only.I enjoyed Top Gun Maverick as a piece of fun cinematic nostalgia, but the story is simplistic, it has the emotional depth of a child's wading pool, the acting is average and the fawning over it is absurd.
