Alfred Hitchcock is the greatest film director of all time, made the most out of his source material, given his resources and budget back then, than any one else before or since.
Im probably taking you too literally here given your subsequent bit about resources and budget, but he had a lot of really crap adaptations as well though which failed the text. Jamaica Inn (mutilated), Under Capricorn, Juno and the Paycock, etc. hit-and-miss in that regard. I don’t want illustrated texts, by all means make it your own, but something like Jamaica Inn compared to the book is a travesty. He did happen to turn around that debt to du Maurier via Rebecca and Birds.

Calling Hitchcock the greatest is hardly a hot take either. I’m a fan too, and there are many like us. E.g. Vertigo is easily my fave which isn’t a hot take, but Suspicion in my top three would probably be, as well as North by Northwest not being close to my top 20.

I don't get the obsession with Quentin Tarantino and none of his films deserve to be in the top tier of cinema.

Tree of Life bored me to tears even though critics raved about it. I don't get it, at all.

It is trash and extremely unoriginal, illogical and stupid, but the Fast and the Furious franchise is good fun.

I have never watched The Godfather (or any of its sequels), Goodfellas, Scarface and The Departed and never intend to.

My favourite Jim Carrey film is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

The Big Bang Theory is the worst, most irritating television series that's ever been produced, and nothing will ever top that.

The Big Bang Theory is good for what it is and the most vociferous criticism come from incels who don't like being the subject of jokes about nerd or geek culture. Not every sitcom has to be Frasier.

But agree to disagree because this is a hot takes thread, I respect your opinion - because I'm not Sheldon /bbtreference

I reckon I'll get jumped on for this one... but even tho I disagree with it's best pic Oscar, I really like the movie Crash + I still own it on DVD.

Come at me you sons of bitches.
In a similar vein to you here. It was the second best film that Oscar race (Brokeback was first) and it was pretty great for its time. Its just aged terribly. In 04 when it was made the concept of "everyones a bit racist and we should probably all just try to get along" was sort of fresh and groundbreaking. Also Ludacris scenes are ****ing great in that film.
These are some popular classics of certain vintage (say 30+ years old) which aren’t to my taste at all.

The Wizard of Oz
The Goonies
Sleepless in Seattle
It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
The Russians are Coming! the Russians are Coming!
Basic Instinct
Eraserhead

Last year was a bizarre twilight zone one for me because the Razzie worst Picture was easily my #1 of the year (Blonde) and the Oscar Best Picture (EEAAO) among the worst seen that year, and my least fave Best Pic ever. I probably won’t beat that for an answer, was such a topsy-turvy Razzies/Oscar weekend to me which felt inevitable months out :drunk:
Havent seen Blonde but EEAAO was my best pic last year.

This isnt a hot take, plenty of people would have this. Uwe Boll is the greatest film director of our time is a hot take. Hitchcock wasnt a horny misogynisitc POS is a hot take.

Yeah Brokeback was ripped off badly. I have that on DVD as well.

Yes this is just a popularity vote not to be taken to serioulsy but I also remember Pulp winning best movie on Bigfooty about 10 years ago.

I think it’s comfortably the third best film of those eight, best non-Godfather film. Aside those three and Schindler’s List, none of them are close to the best 250 films of all time.

I remember being in a meeting with my faculty leader, a parent and student. I had an Elaine Benes "English Patient' moment with this sitcom- at the end of the meeting somehow the conversation turned to TBBT and how great a show it is- they were all ****ing raving about it. I had to say thru gritted teeth it was "ok".

Hardest moment of my life. True story.

Seems to be unpopular but Daniel Craig is the best James Bond, I've watched through them all, I just find his performances the most entertaining.
Craig's legacy as Bond is extremely mixed. Casino Royale and Skyfall are amongst the best Bond movies ever made. Quantum of Solace is the worst ever made, by a country mile, and No Time to Die would also be in the bottom 3. Spectre is probably in the bottom 1/3.

But that's the movies, and I get that you're talking about Craig's performances in those movies, as distinct from the movies as a whole.

Quantum of Solace is worse than Die another Day?

Quantum of Solace was an odd one. I think it's a good enough flick but it's far more Jason Borne/Mission Impossible than it is James Bond.

Agree on the others although I really enjoyed Spectre. No Time to Die was very average.

Im here for this. Connery has that nostalgia and probably best embodies Flemings written version of Bond but Craig is easily the most watchable.

Might be a hot take but the Brosnan movies arent as bad as we remember if you take them for campy fun.

I think their issue was that the tone changed dramatically from Goldeneye (which aside from Xenia was pretty grounded and cold) to the rest which got super campy.

See my post above. Brosnan is best and not even die another day can ruin his legacy
