  • Issac Quaynor
He's an alright Half Back, but gets beaten when the ball hits the deck consistently by smaller players. Gets beaten in the air by big players. Gets beaten both ways by athletic mid-sizers.. Also makes questionable decisions under pressure.

  • Darcy Moore
He's a good intercept defender but isn't great one on one. He is definitely in the better defenders in the competition but he cannot be spoken about in the same vein as the best 3.

  • Jordan De Goey
Really unfit and struggles to get contest to contest in the way you'd hope your premier on-baller does. Additionally he's AA and BnF-less after what, 10+ years in the system? How good can he be? He's a handy player, but not the top 10 player people tout him as.

  • Lachie Schultz
He's an OK small forward with an OK output against bad teams.. Definitely not worth the trade capital

  • Dan McStay
No team in the competition would've paid $600k a year for a goal a game tall forward. Best output is less than 30 goals. Pies supporters will be inhaling hella copium in September if they don't go B2B and cite his absence as a reason for it..

I'm guessing Maynard, Eloitt, Noble, Pendlebury, Daicos x2, Noble, Sidebottom, Cameron, Hill, Murphy, Howe, Mihocek, Hoskin-Elliott and Cox were all a close 6th? :tearsofjoy:

dont really have a top 5 but i think elijah hollands is incredibly overrated

some people still think he will be the next big thing based largely off his juniors highlights. reality is since doing the ACL and having appeared at VFL + AFL level he has looked like nothing more than a depth player

some onlookers were shocked he was traded for so little last year. even before the drug charge news was made public, if hollands was a second round pick in that draft he would have likely been on the delist pile instead of another club being willing to have a punt for nothing.

read the carlton board and you would think the change of environment to a "professional club" is all that will be needed to unlock his latent superstar potential. gold coast appear to have had no problems developing elite midfielders outside of hollands (see miller, anderson, rowell and flanders back half to 2023) so i dont see why hollands would blossom from showing relatively nothing to a tremendous player at carlton.

1 - Stringer. Can be a matchwinner but unfortunately it happens extremely rarely. 'The Package' has it all except commitment and work ethic. One of the few players in the league that can get away with coasting on talent.

2 - Zac Merrett. People (Essendon fans) thought this guy was as good as Bont and Cripps. Enough said.

3 - Dangerfield. Handy player in the same mould as Adam Cooney. Can sprint really fast from congestion which looks great but is let down by his kicking after a burst.

4 - Cam Zurharr. Handy player with the very odd stellar game. Descriptions as the best player currently alive earlier in the year were well off the mark.

5. Bailey Smith. Social media output has far exceeded his onfield efforts. Save for one great finals series he hasn't lived up to the hype he built early on in his career.

Merrett is under rated. That maybe just cos I hear too many North people bag him before he cuts us apart again and very little else.

Danger belongs on that list too.

Wouldn't have thought anyone beside North people and one over-excitable commentator actually rated Zurhaar tho.

Stringer (lol the fat **** shouldn't even be playing till he takes it seriously.)
Dangerfield (Obviously)
Bont (maybe needs a better coach. Not as good as the hype.)
Nic Nat
Nick Daicos (He's a gun but the hype surrounding him is so over the top that he is over rated as a result.)

H/M Neale (Because he won the Brownlow and probably shouldn't have.)

Aaron Naughton
Hugh McCluggage
Zac Merrett
Andy Brayshaw
Jaegar O'Meara
Mitch Lewis
Angus Brayshaw
Jai Simpkin
Jeremy McGovern
Bailey Smith
Luke Darcy's kid

Agree with NicNat but he's retired

1. Nick Daicos - An awful lot of hype for a half back flanker racking up 30+ uncontested touches a game. Do not rate.
2. Max Gawn - Wins a ton of hitouts, few are effective. Only gets huge stats because of his time on ground. Garbage up forward. Proven he can't play with any other ruckman. Arguably loses his team more games than he wins.
3. Errol Gulden - Dime a dozen midfielder for me. Clearly an umpires pet given last years brownlow result. Don't understand the hype.
4. Jordan DeGoey - Played a handful of good games in his career, goes missing in the vast majority. Don't rate him as a midfielder at all.
5. Zach Merrett - High possession minimal impact footballer. Doesn't kick goals. Do not rate at all.
guldens got to be one of the most unique midfielders in the comp atm weird to call him dime a dozen

I love CZ, but he's not the best player at North let alone the best player in the comp! I would love to see who apparently alleged that haha

Even I had a laugh on this

How is Jake Stringer overrated? He doesn't play a full season, is almost never fit and is inconsistent. Not even Essendon supporters rate him more than a guy that can kick a goal or two here and there.

Dusty.

Remove his 3 grand finals, and the entirety of his career is pretty ordinary for a midfielder in regards to his standing.

Is this a serious take ?

We are just removing big games and the aim of playing afl to judge a players career.
