Top 10 Players Since 2000

The NS is not the measure of a player you think it is.
It’s an opinion award from a one-off game that is not available to players whose team didn’t reach the Granny that year.
I mean, I could have listed GAJ's 5 x MVP, 3 x Coaches Awards and 2 x Brownlow across 6 different seasons, or the fact Buddy has kicked 300 goals more than the next best forward, etc.

But, but, but Norm Smith Medals, where a player may be 1% better than the next best player on the ground, and 3% better than the 5th best player on the ground in a game that only two teams get to play each year.

And the other awards/records?

P.S T Shaw says a NS is the pinnacle of individual accolades. It’s what players play for, not AA jackets and Brownlows.

Again you are ignoring the rest of his awards.

It’s the reason why they are talking about Dusty statues ffs and not Pendlebury.

This is just a case of Pies FOMO and it’s so obvious.

Houli should have 2 of Dusty's Norms anyway.

Dusty's a great player, but severely overrated. Nowhere near GAJ.

It really is astounding how simple some people are...

If the Norm Smith voting panel saw the 2017 Grand Final the same way as the Coaches did, how much lesser a player does that make Martin?

(For me, it makes no difference).

It does. I wouldn’t even rate him in the top 10 without it.

Winners are who are remembered and leave legacies not 2nd place.

And somebody like Pendlebury never even won a brownlow or MVP. He sucks.

Yet dusty averages more brownlow votes per game than gaj and has 3 more norm smith medals

And more flags and 3 more Gary ayres medals

I guess gaj can always cry in his aa
Jumpers or wipe his bum with them as that is All they are worth

And 4 fewer All Australians....

And 4 fewer AFLPA MVP's...

And 4 fewer Club Best and Fairest's....

And 2 fewer AFLCA Coaches Awards....

And 1 fewer Brownlow....

And 6 fewer seasons as the captain of his club...

And 70 fewer games to reduce the 'average Brownlow votes per game'...

But those games at GC man wowee, that’s what dreams are made of. 🤣
Pretty sure Martin's played as many games in a mediocre team as GAJ has.

Yep:
Martin's win percentage - 55% (and declining)
GAJ's win percentage - 54%

The only difference is, GAJ performed much better in the mediocre team.

Hmmmm...

I don’t get your point really. If it’s wins you care about it’s 3 flags to 2.

But for real I don’t have a problem with people putting Judd, GAJ, Buddy above Dusty they all have their strengths.

But Pendlebury and Dangerfield is crazy imo.

1. Scott Pendlebury
2. Nathan Buckley
3. Dane Swan
4. Nick Daicos
5. Steele Sidebottom

I think that list is obvious, not sure what everyone else is thinking with all the Ablett, Dusty, Judd & Buddy stuff.

1. Gary Ablett Jr
2. Chris Judd
Judd's peak was incredible but Ablett's consistency as one of, if not the best in the game for over a decade (and a very handy player either side of it - could've been a HoF small forward if he never went into the middle) gives him the edge - but I do have the two closer than most would.
3. Lance Franklin
4. Nick Riewoldt
Best FF and CHF next up, such important positions and these guys during their peaks were night and day better than what we have now.
5. Adam Goodes
6. Matthew Pavlich
Versatility supreme. Two Brownlows and a flag for Goodes gives him the edge, but Pav carried those Freo teams most of his career - deserved a flag.
7. Dustin Martin
LOL at people who even have him top 5, let alone higher. If you take the top dozen seasons between Ablett and Dusty you have 2017 Martin and 11 from GAJ.
8. Matthew Lloyd
I'm bias because he was my favourite player as a kid, and I initially excluded him for playing too much footy pre-2000, but he still had almost 700 goals this century - and it would've been much more if it wasn't for the impact of Matthew Knights and that 2006 hamstring. But hey, at least I'm not bias enough to put my favourite player first above some of the greatest of all time.
9. Joel Selwood
10. Matthew Scarlett
I swear I haven't been having two similar players/stories consecutively on purpose! Decorated Geelong guns, Selwood deserved a couple of Brownlows imho. Scarlett the best defender of his generation.
Cox, Cousins, Hodge, Fyfe, Pendlebury, Black, Fevola, Brown, Sandilands, Tredrea, Brown, Mitchell, Jack Riewoldt, Dangerfield, Gawn next up - had the first five in my top 10 at some point editing this. Wouldn't argue with any of them being in the latter half of somebody's top 10.

Hird, Bucks, McLeod, Voss, Richo etc are in that top 10 on quality but played too much pre-2000 for my liking.
Fyfe

Rance hung em up too early to be considered sorry

I think 200 games is more than enough plus his body of work (output) was right up there - consistent, in my opinion.

5x All Australian
1x Richmond Best & Fairest
2x Runner-Up: Richmond Best & Fairest

Right up there with the best backmen, up there with Scarlett (who I loved watching) in my opinion.
