Justification on this one please

My Team of glory, with no realism intended:

Katich
Hughes
Ponting
Watson
Clarke
Khawaja
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger
-----------
Hauritz
Siddle

IF it spins, get katich and clarke to bowl. For the next 4 tests, Hauritz will replace Bollinger. If Harris is injured, Siddle comes in.

I'm fully aware my team won't happen, but I said about a month ago that this is the team I'd take and I'm sticking with it.

Justification on this one?

mcdonald at test level looked a 5th bowler and a number 8 bat.

Just one of those players who is solid with bat and ball at domestic but lacks the genuine quality to take wickets or score big runs at test level(remember he played his tests on greentops in south africa and still struggled)

His batting can't justify him taking a frontline bowling spot not when there are genuine wicket takers like harris in the squad.

The whole McDonald thing is so ridiculously stupid anyway, nobody outside of the victorians at bigfooty are talking about the bloke for test cricket... hell he's not even in our ridiculous over sized 17 man squad.

So you'd rather Hauritz who has done absolutely nothing bar a 5fer in a match which has since come under investigation for match fixing?

Harris isn't fit anyway. I'd take him definately if he was.

Would i rather Haurtiz or McDonald as our 4th bowler?

Well it's a nonsensical question anyway one is a spinner, one is medium pacer who isn't in the squad and struggled to make an impact when he did play tests.

Might as well ask whether i would prefer brett lee or s clark in over haurtiz.

if the pitch is green and we play a 4th seamer it would be siddle or harris(if fit) mcdonald never comes into the equation.

He's not up to being a 4th bowler at test level and he's not in the 17 man test squad or even in the Australian A team, he's so far down the pecking order that we would need the 1995 rugby world cup chef's cooking for the test team to give him a shot of playing.

The way these green looking pitches are batting Smith at 6 and playing 4 pacemen (Bollinger, Harris, Hilfenhaus and Johnson) mightn't be a bad thing. I'm still undecided. Smith batted so well in difficult conditions. If he bowls well he should come right into contention.

Nothing like taking form into a Test

Last dig -

Watson 6
Katich 1
Ponting 7
Clarke DNB injured
Hussey 0
North 17
Haddin 10
Hauritz 0
Johnson 82no
Hillfy DNB
Bolinger 0

Doesn't fill me with heaps of confidence.

To be fair to Ponting and the NSW guys 20 wickets fell in one day so it was obviously a nightmare to bat on, Hussey and North however are a joke and don't deserve to be anywhere near the Ashes squad.

Justification on this one?

Like I said, I picked this team a month ago. At the time I didn't believe the hype about his technique issues. When he was recalled against NZ he hit an 80 odd not out which looked nice. I'm trying to play a bit into the future with my team. I figure, tell him he's in the team, and the selectors back him for all 5 matches and his confidence wouldn't be an issue.

After seeing him yesterday however, I'm not entirely sure, he's always been a scratchy starter to an innings, but yesterday just lacked confidence entirely.

In saying that, I'd still have him open, as I think he provides more to the team as an opener than Hussey/North do down the order

Was just coming here to float the same idea, I liked the look of Smith yesterday

My XI would be this and would score accordingly

From yesterdays play :thumbsu:

Interesting to see that for some reason Katich did not open in the second innings, and big Moises went up the order from 7 in the first innings to open with Watson.

Knocked his shoulder in the field.

What the team should be:

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Ferguson
North
Haddin
Harris
Doherty
Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

Johnson (12th)

What the side will be because our selectors are ****heads:

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
North
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Hilfenhaus

Bollinger (12th)

How did you know that Bolly would be out and Siddle in? Were you assuming that due to Bolly's injury?
