Zac Dawson - Quiet Achiever

Jack Riewoldt. Pick 13, 2006.

Fremantle sent Pick 13 and Polak to Richmond for Pick 8. We sent Pick 8 and Medhurst to Collingwood for Tarrant.

Pick 8, 2006 - Ben Reid.

What a monumental ****-up that was.

As bad as using pick #31 on Clayton Collard, while Adelaide used pick 32 on Kurt Tippett.

Imagine Jack Riewoldt and Kurt Tippett on our list. Would make the whole Pitt over Darling talk completely irrelevant.

Or Ben Reid and Kurt Tippett - we'd all be saying, Zac Who?

Breaks my ****ing heart how stupid that all was.

I didn't really seriously follow footy then, but even then i knew that that was a massive f*** up. sigh. And you're right. We're still paying for it.

Upgrade 13 for 8 with Polly take best available ...Drum was a top 10 pick so for every what about Riley Dunn comment I hear - think Drum....we are giving up a quality player (not guaranteed but I bet Taz dont come with a written guarantee either). Pick 8 could get us a Jack Reiwoldt/Proud type or who knows a gem may fall - if a Gumbleton goes to C'wood (yes unlikely) at Pick 8 we have paid a massive price indeed.

The Moo man says it must be an Ian Turpie/Larry Emdur deal ......The Price Must Be Right.

**** me - this is from Oct 2006

Dawson kills a lot of contests and a lot of his work goes unnoticed. Seriously, how many times does he punch the ball into the crowd, not giving his opponent a sniff? How many times does he leave his opponent and go 3rd man up to help a team mate? We need all defenders to learn his discipline, ie always punch towards the boundary line.

And I think it's working. In Rd 1, McPharlin and Johnson dropped marks resulting in goals to Geelong but I don't recall seeing that happen from either since then (only from Duffield).

Dawson is not the most talented and he does panic with the ball in his hand but he is a very good team defender. He is not the strongest either so he is vulnerable in 1 on 1 wrestles with the big power forwards but it's the midfielders jobs to make sure this happens as little as possible.

Anyway, he's not perfect but he's a handy player to have. The game on the weekend showed he was a couple of notches above Silvagni. I hope our fans give Dawson a chance.

All this talk of how inept Zac Dawson is provides me with a constant source of amusement. Especially when I recall a bloke named Brian France who played for West Perth (and WA). Brian was a terrible kick but absolutely hated for his opponent to get a kick. Completely dominated at centre half back. Just ask Darryl Baldock who got totally thrashed for three quarters until Brian went off injured then Baldock won the game for the Vics.

Hats off to the solid defenders who don't let their opponents get too many kicks.

Good post.

We played hard ball and ended up keeping our early picks last year but some around here are still calling that a mistake. Interesting. Hopefully Shridan and Crozier will be topline players like Riewoldt and Tippett in 5 years time.

All that plus the fact that the Dawson haters conveniently ignore the fact that his disposal efficiency is 5th in the team throughout 2012, and that he has 74 1 %'s compared to Johnno and Luke next with an equal 31. But unfortunately, you can't give people intelligence, and you can't sway blind bias.

Maybe because most of his kicks are safe chips to a team mate who can then do the creative/risky play? (As he should, it isn't his game to be trying high risk kicks). Pretty meaningless stat though

Could be a meaningless stat, but it's my reply to posters here on BF that say he has the worst disposal in the team. They're just plain wrong.

Felt for him in the last quarter when Walker took that mark opposed to Ballas. Mundy actually shepherded Dawson from the contest. We're the one's in purple David...

Dawson's best game for the club today I thought.

Pretty much, still copped an enormous amount of stick from the morons near me though. He's always good value for putting a bit of hurt on opposition players too and he backs himself to leave his man and kill contests further upfield like all good defenders.

yup i agree, i started this thread hoping i would motza him and he'd be dropped for SNOS.

Not after this week, he was good, just needs to randomly injure more ppl imo
