Zac Dawson - Quiet Achiever

Really pisses me off seeing so called supporters slip the knife into him after the way he's been performing of late. Its the fickle own team booers that erode a players confidence and their club loyalty in the first place.

Good on you Zac, you stood up tonight. Special mention above the 15 others because unlike the other 15, pricks sink the boot into you for every error and give little credit for the rest.

How were his clearances!?! Tap, mop up, and proceed to slam on the boot after negotiating heavy traffic, it was equal parts brilliant and hillariously awesome/funny!

As I sat slugging down the Bintangs with a newfound purple mate, I cheered every clearance (what were there - 2?) anyway, it was a true moment of Freo style history, where on the flipside of our 'last hopes' and absolute worldbeaters getting cut down in their prime, a skinny, gormless looking, brain-fart monger stands up against an enormous premiership ruckman and delivers us some momentum from the centre.

Classic Freo.

Is at his best when playing a backup role, struggles without the leadership and ability of McPharlin , definitely earns his spot in the side (Despite occasional brain freeze).

He just reminds me of a younger MJ always seems in slow motion, has so much potential only need the mongrel of a McPhee in him.

WOW! Is it because people expect so little from him to start with that when he plays a good 5-10 minutes he gets these plaudits. I just don't get it.

It's not that people expect so little from him, it's that the haters are always on his case highlighting every mistake while ignoring the good work he does, so people feel the need to balance the ledger wherever possible.

It hasn't been like that for quite a while now. As soon as anybody mentions that he has made a few mistakes it gets taken over by people who say things like "you don't know the finer points of the game" and " He is a great team player and does 1% so well". Protected species on this board so not many bother any more. His influence on the game has been overstated.

He did what I would expect from him and nothing outstanding.

I don't know about him being a protected species.

He gets very unfairly maligned on here at times.

What, exactly, do you want him to do?

He still cops it, go read any gameday thread.

And the problem is people don't 'mention that he made a few mistakes', that would imply some kind of rational analysis. Instead we get over-the-top stuff like:

Dawson is so shit, how does he get a game? or Dawson isn't good enough for WAFL reserves or Dawson should be delisted at the end of the year.

You are right. Zac dawson is a player that does his job every week. He is not a star footballer but always competes to a high level often against the best players in the league. He was a great recruit. The fact that he may be able to ruck and play as a forward is a real bonus.

Just reading the official dockers 2013 yearbook, Zac Dawson equal top in disposal efficiency with fish pub and first in spoils with 143 closest was Micheal Johnson with 88. Will be yelling that to the squeezers who sit near me who are always on his back when he gets the ball.

Well no shit, most of his touches are dinky little handballs to the closest teammate. Whether he's expecting it or not. I'm certainly not shitting myself when he gets the ball because i'm afraid of one of his pinpoint passes taking an eye out.

Defensive spoils are probably his biggest asset though. There's a reason he never gets a bag kicked on him. Well not recently anyway.

Mate, do you yell out "KICK IT" all of the time during games?
Dawson was voted the Saints best finals player during their tied gf year - one more finals game than normal and one of the most pressurized finals campaigns in AFL / VFL history.
But you and all the negheads know better.....
