I don't follow the prospects but 34 seems very low for Gould compared to other phantom drafts

Good to see you doing a Phantom, and sad to read that Life is impacting the more important things, like doing a Phantom with full player bios.

Re your Fremantle selections, curious that you have us taking O'Neill with both Sharp and Taylor, who you rate in your personal 15, still available. Both seem good list fits for us, although if we do grad Ash with our first we may not want both Ash and Sharp.

My thoughts on Gould is that I think his a great player and the statistics can back it up with him being a two time under 18 All Australian. However I personally am iffy with man childs playing in Under 18s and so on converting into AFL. Being a key defender and 191cm I wonder how he would go playing against older men in the AFL compared to him dominated against under 18 year olds. Don't get me wrong his definitely a gun, but I think he will be a slider and whoever picks him will get a bargain. That's how I see it, but everyone has their own opinions.

Thanks Gav! Mitch was in my top 15th but I rate some of the talent this year so it was hard to fit him in. In terms of needs I feel like O'neill would be a better fit for Fremantle than Sharp. Obviously Langdon and Hill gone they need some speed and outside class in the team. Additions of Aish and Acres in the team but I see Acres playing more inside. Mitch I see being a perfect replacement for Langdon and bringing his outside strengths with great speed and polished kicks to the team. I feel that Geelong will jump the gun on Luke Jackson and they also are in need of a outside mid so pairing him with Sharp who reminds me abit of Mitch Duncan makes sense for me if it happens in the draft.

Wasn't he playing SANFL against men all year?

Why do you have Brisbane taking 2 defensive players in Day and Gould the Lions have 3 great tall defenders in Andrews Gardiner and Adams in our seniors and Payne Ballendan and Skinner in our reserves don't see tall defenders as a massive need at the Lions
Whooops I have finished this all today so I have been all over the place. Should of reread my own draft. Trent Rivers was suppose to be Brisbane first pick. It was initially Cooper Stephens or Bianco for Brisbanes first pick but I have GC going Bianco to pair with Rowell and Anderson. Will Day should of been swapped around with Rivers. I have Richmond pouncing on Will Day before GC has a chance with their next pick. My bad and thanks for that.

Yeah I know and I love SANFL players who play with more overagers but I am still iffy with Gould. I just don't like man childs, they scare me. As I said he is a good player I just have a feeling he will slide between 20-35.

Man childs? He seems smart and mature for his age, as much as any other draftee.
Hmm I don't know. Its fine to have fun after a SANFL grand final and party it up, but putting on heaps of weight aswell before a chance to get in the AFL is abit iffy to me. I understand he has been losing some of it now but thats just how I see it.
Why do people continually put Pickett outside the first round when it has been reported that he has received an invite to the first night of the draft?
Media Media Media. Don't always believe everything you hear or say. I wonder why Nathan Murphy is 2017 was touted to be top 25 and got invited to the night of the draft but slipped to pick 39 to Collingwood or why Angus Brayshaw never got invited to the 2018 Brownlow even though he came 3rd. It has only been recently Pickett was even added top 30 calculations. He is a 171cm small forward. I don't see him going top 20 even though he possesses great x factor and skill.

Is this confirmed by the AFL? Anyone have a source about Pickett being flown in?

There’s no way Bergman and Pickett are still on the board past 25

Luke Valente was invited to last years draft and taking at 32 by Fremantle just because they are invited doesn't mean they will be taken in the first round

I wouldn't listen to the media all the time, they are not always right. There have been many players in the past that were touted top 25 and go slide past 30. Luke Valente,Curtis Taylor, Charlie Constable, Jack Petrucelle,Nathan Murphy, Sam Hayes, Charlie Ballard,Joel Garner, Harley Balic, Rhys Mathieson. The list goes on man. I rate Pickett, but not too much of a fan of Bergman. I don't remember a 171cm player being drafted inside top 25 for awhile although the talent is there with Pickett.

Most of those players like Taylor were touted to go early throughout the year then slipped on draft night to the shock of the media. When In reality they had been further back on clubs draft boards in a while due to various reasons. Pickett and Bergman have only been mentioned as going early recently because of their invites to the first night, when actually they’ve probably been high up on clubs draft boards for a while.

You are stating the obvious though. None of us on big footy are experts and know exactly what is going to happen on the night. However we all share one thing, which is the love for this and putting our love into our phantom drafts to what we believe or think will happen on the night as if we were to be a recruiter. My question to you though is 2 months ago where did you have Bergman and Pickett draft range and has it changed dramatically for you since and what you personally like in both of them to be known as definite top 25 draft picks.
think the O'Neill pick is a great pick for us but I think in the grand scheme of thing's he'll fall into late 30's early 40's.
Injuries have been an issue with him but the upside is there and he will suit the needs to Fremantle to a tee. I think he should be in the 20-30 range easily with most of the teams around than would be looking for an outside mid and he should be one of them to be picked for that. Can have some really big games that kid.

I’ve had Bergman in my top 20 since the champs. Even though he didn’t have huge numbers, he showed off some his attributes that 80% of the draft don’t have. Something always happens when he’s near the ball and he really catches the eye. Personally I think Pickett has always been a top 25 talent because of his pure ability to impact games. He’s fallen down the order in a few mock draft boards in recent months because he hasn’t had a strong 2nd half the season. I think playing for 3 different teams (while also playing seniors and ressies for wwt) this year may have taken a toll on the kid. Though I think recruiters might’ve already seen enough to like what they see and believe once in an professional system he has untapped potential with a high ceiling.

Hmm interesting. I thought Bergman was alright in the championships but not really top 20 standard for me but each to their own. I always were a fan of Byron Pickett in the olden days, one of the biggest mongrels in the game that was tough as bricks. I do see it in Kysaiah aswell and he has his own style with heaps of x factor and upside but I think he will be passed on due to his height. Always find good small forward like him around 30+ mark.

Yes, by multiple AFL.com reporters. Even mentioned on the AFL website.

Why do people continually put Pickett outside the first round when it has been reported that he has received an invite to the first night of the draft?
Reports are there will be 25 players invited to night 1.

There aren’t going to be 25 players selected in the first round.

Teams put in a short list of players at the AFL’s request. There are some games being played by some clubs, especially those clubs with multiple picks in the first round, and even in the first 30/35.

Teams might be really keen on 2 specific players at their first two picks, and they order they draft those two kids might influence whether the second kid makes it through to their second pick.

Nailed Brisbane’s picks.

You must have read enough of me ranting at others for “stuffing up” Brisbane’s picks in their mock drafts.

No I haven't to be honest ahah. I havent read much into other mock drafts this year since I have been extremely busy. I was literally going to not do it this year. Out of the three lions picks, who do you rate the most.

I think it’s been proven that if you bring enough to the table, your height isn’t a big factor. AMT, Daniels and Daniel play some amazing footy and don’t get exposed for their height. I remember watch Caleb Daniel at the 14’ champs and thinking he had some of the best skills I’d seen but knew he would struggle to get inside the top 30 due to his height. If he hadve been 6foot he would’ve gone top 5. He ended up going for a pick in the 40s and I bet there are a few clubs that regret not taking him.

Oh I 1000% agree with that. However when it comes to drafting they don't really get taken earlier especially inside top 25 and its understandable because they can drop 30+ and you can get a massive bargain. That is exactly what I think will happen with Pickett. I mean Cameron Taheny I rate my top 10 in this draft and think he can become one of the best medium forwards in the AFL and the biggest bargain in this draft however I didn't even have him being drafted top 40 because his mental game at the moment isnt good and his attitude is shit plus he had a bit of a whirlwind year. If he gets his stuff together I think he will be the bargain of this draft.
