Jack Steele will continue to lead the St. Kilda Football Club as captain for the 2023 season, which marks the club’s 150th year. This will be Steele’s third season as captain, the second as the standalone captain. He will be supported by first-time vice-captain Callum Wilkie, along with Tim Membrey, Seb Ross, and Jack Sinclair, who make up the five-man leadership group.
Steele expressed his pride in leading the club in its landmark year. “Every time I put on the jumper, I am aware of the significance of representing generations of St. Kilda fans, staff, and players. I’m really looking forward to working closely with Cal, who is a close friend and a deserving leader,” he said.
Callum Wilkie, who was selected as a mature-aged rookie in 2019, has not missed a single game since his debut. His strong voice on the field and leadership off the field made him a clear choice for the vice-captaincy. “Being voted in as the vice-captain is an honor and I don’t take it for granted. I love this club and want to do the fans and my teammates proud in our 150th year,” Wilkie said.
The inclusion of Jack Sinclair marks his first official leadership role, while Seb Ross and Tim Membrey will serve their sixth and fifth terms as leaders, respectively. The club has a well-respected and capable group of leaders, both official and unofficial, with players of all ages encouraged to use their voice and play their part in making the team better as a whole.
