GWS Giants Statement
The GIANTS are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Cam McCarthy.
Cameron McCarthy was drafted to the club with pick 14 in the 2013 national draft and played 21 games for the club between 2014 and 2016 before moving back to his home state of Western Australia to play at the Fremantle Dockers.
“We are saddened to learn of Cam’s passing. The news has had a profound impact on many current and former GIANTS players and staff,” said GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews.
“Cam had great energy and was a much-loved member of our club for the seasons he was here. He was very popular and a bright footballing talent.
“On behalf of the GIANTS, we extend our deepest sympathies to the entire McCarthy family and his many friends.”

AFL Statement
The AFL is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Cam McCarthy. Having played at both GWS Giants and Fremantle between 2014-2020, McCarthy was a well-loved member of both clubs.
“On behalf of everyone at the AFL, our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the entire McCarthy family and Cam’s loved ones and friends, along with his former teammates from both Fremantle and GWS.” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said.
