The Richmond Football Club has announced that key position player Noah Balta has signed a seven-year contract extension, tying him to the club until the end of 2032. This commitment ensures the 24-year-old will remain a Tiger for at least the next eight seasons.

A Versatile Asset

Balta, standing at 194cm, has been a significant contributor to Richmond’s lineup, showcasing his versatility by playing at both ends of the ground during the 2024 season. He averaged six marks per game and kicked 12 goals, leading the club in contested marks last year. His strength, power, and athleticism have made him a formidable presence on the field.

Journey to the AFL

Selected with pick No. 25 overall in the 2017 AFL Draft, Balta spent the 2018 season honing his skills in the VFL. He made his AFL debut in the 2019 season opener, initially playing as a ruck/forward. That year, he played 13 senior games and was part of the club’s VFL premiership team.

In the 2020 premiership season, Balta established himself as a key defender. Despite not joining the AFL lineup until Round 5 of the shortened season, he finished eighth in the Jack Dyer Medal. Over the next three seasons, he primarily held down the backline before returning to the forward line at times in 2024.

Standout Performances

Balta’s versatility was on full display in some of his strongest games this season:

  • Round 1 vs. Carlton: Partnering with Tom Lynch up forward, Balta tallied 23 disposals and kicked three goals.
  • Round 14 vs. Adelaide: Playing in defense, he recorded 20 disposals, 12 marks, and seven intercepts in a victory against the Crows.

A Commitment to Loyalty and Leadership

Expressing his excitement about the contract extension, Balta emphasized his loyalty to the club and his desire to mentor the next generation of players.

“I think I am a loyal person, and I want to repay the favour that players like David Astbury, Alex Rance, and Dylan Grimes showed me when I was younger,” he said.

“They pushed me to get better, and now I want to be the one helping to drive the next generation.

“I could not see myself playing anywhere else, and I think the hard work that we are about to all put in will make the future highs even sweeter.”**

Club’s Excitement for the Future

Richmond’s General Manager of Football Talent, Blair Hartley, expressed enthusiasm about Balta’s long-term commitment.

“Noah is an important player to us with his versatility and ability to give us a powerful aerial option in all areas of the ground,” Hartley said.

**“He continues to develop his game and leadership credentials, and we look forward to seeing him continue to flourish going forward.

“His development since arriving at the Club seven years ago has been terrific, and it is great news for everyone involved with the Club that Noah will be a key part of the next generation of Richmond.”**

Looking Ahead

Balta’s seven-year extension solidifies his role as a cornerstone of Richmond’s future.
