The AFL has confirmed that the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final will kick off at its traditional time of 2:30pm AEST on Saturday, September 28, at the MCG.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Dillon announced that the AFL Commission approved the recommendation in his CEO report during a meeting in Melbourne. While acknowledging the success of recent Saturday twilight events, especially during marquee games this season, the Commission decided to maintain the Grand Final’s traditional afternoon time slot for 2024. However, the start time for future Grand Finals will continue to be reviewed.

“The Toyota AFL Grand Final is the best sporting event in the country and our competition’s biggest moment,” Dillon said. “Our role is to deliver the best possible game experience for fans both at the ground and watching the broadcast. Together with our broadcast partner, the Seven Network, we are committed to creating an amazing event, both in the build-up during the week and on that magical last Saturday in September.”

Dillon highlighted the incredible season so far, with over 6.5 million fans attending games, 1.2 million members, and record-breaking crowds. “Come September 28, 100,000 fans will march into the MCG on Saturday afternoon for the biggest game of the year,” he added.
