The 2024 AFL All Australian Team was unveiled during the AFL Awards presentation tonight, showcasing a blend of veteran stars and emerging talents. Seven players made their debut in the prestigious lineup, highlighting the depth of talent across the league this season.

Max Gawn continued to cement his legacy, earning his seventh All Australian blazer. This remarkable achievement places him among the elite in AFL history, making him the tenth player to achieve seven or more All Australian selections. Gawn joins the ranks of legends like Gary Ablett Snr, Gary Ablett Jnr, Patrick Dangerfield, Lance Franklin, Robert Harvey, and Mark Ricciuto, who all have eight selections. Additionally, Wayne Carey, Stephen Silvagni, and current All Australian selector Nathan Buckley are tied with Gawn at seven selections each.

Marcus Bontempelli was honored as the Captain of the 2024 All Australian team, marking his sixth selection. This accolade underscores his influence and consistency on the field. The Western Bulldogs star follows in the footsteps of Robert Murphy, who was the last Bulldog to captain the All Australian team in 2015. Carlton’s Patrick Cripps, a four-time All Australian, was named Vice-Captain, further solidifying his status as one of the competition’s elite midfielders.

Notably, six players from the 2023 All Australian team retained their spots in this year’s lineup, reflecting their sustained excellence. These players are Daniel Houston, Errol Gulden, Marcus Bontempelli, Nick Daicos, Caleb Serong, and Zak Butters.

The selection of the 2024 All Australian team was overseen by a panel comprising Andrew Dillon (Chair), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, Josh Mahoney, and Matthew Pavlich. Their task of selecting the best players in the league is a testament to the incredible talent on display throughout the AFL season. This year’s team not only honors individual excellence but also highlights the evolving landscape of the competition as new stars emerge alongside established champions.
