Moving the game would cause disruption to thousands.
It wouldn't.

And it's not like it's 2 days to go like the cyclone last week.

Reality is, the home final for the Redbacks has been on the cards for months. It's poor communication that's lead to what's happening now.

Personally, I think it would be a massive shame for SA not to play the Shield Final at Adelaide Oval. The ground is such a special place for cricket in this state and to give up the opportunity of winning our first shield in 30 years there would be crazy disappointing…

I don’t understand why Eddie Maguire’s idea of swapping our Round 3 game for North’s Round 24 game is a non-starter? It doesn’t affect either club particularly much surely? North get a chunk of home games early in the season to try and build some momentum, and the Crows finish the season off with 5 of their last 6 at home. What’s not to like from either club?
Thats a workable solution.

Can you refresh my memory what happened the last time we played a home final?

Why was it held at Glenelg, why wasn't there a push to play it at AO?

What's different this time?

If the AFL is shifting games around why doesn't the Sheffield Shield wait until August to play the match between round 24 and finals?

Or October and just play it after the AFL games?

Just on the nuts & bolts of the Footy Express, looking into it does seem like a bit of a cluster **** (it's a great initiative don't get me wrong!)
I always thought it was government funded (motor accident commission) but after reading an article it looks like Mali was against it (when in opposition) saying more dollars should be put into hospital beds!
Then it seems to have been a joint cost with Crows/Port the AFL & maybe A.O?
It doesn't look like the State GOV is involved any more.
Can certainly see why it might be sticking point in any dealings.. but I've no idea who's really in the right?!

Someone said Port were the team playing home after the cricket so it would've impacted them - hence there was no furore.

Just an automatic 'no' from our Port loving politicians.
I think youll find Mali would be campaigning for it regardless of whether Port were playing or not.

Sneaky Jay..... well yeah the guy was a moron. Also as a side note, KRO wasnt built then, so it was never an option.

Means we would have 3 away games on the bounce to start the year, a year where it's critical we bank early wins.

I don't see how it's workable at all tbh and nor will the club.
I dont think its ideal, but its workable. Weve got an 8 day break after Essendon and 6 days between North and the Suns.

The sticking point is the 5 day break between that and opening Gather Round, which in itself is dumb.

It's not workable and shouldn't happen, the club isn't going to completely change how the start of the year looks for a state cricket game that will have 40 people in attendance

I bet we wouldnt be having this discussion if it wasnt us playing on that day.

The reality is, theres not that much to worry about in terms of ground conditions.

That was before Karen Rolton got built

Glenelg was being used as the satellite Redbacks ground, a bit like Junction Oval for the Vics or North Sydney for NSW. Allan Border Field for Qld.

SA played Shield games during the year at Glenelg, SACA curators were preparing all the pitches and SACA relaid the wicket square for them (and paid for it). Even the South African touring team played a game there.

Glenelg was the second ground and is set up fine for spectators, so less of an outcry.

Now Karen Rolton Oval is there but isn't a really suitable from a spectator perspective.

Maybe that's the reason? Good question. I can't actually remember the ins and outs.

All states have this issue. The Victorians couldn't provide a ground for the final the year after Glenelg so ended up "hosting" the game in Alice Springs.

I thought we subsidised it with our membership/ticket fee.

His interview was on AA but I heard a fair portion through SEN.
He made it sound like it was adelaide who wanted money.
What’s coming out it seems like the afl has asked for millions.
Andrew Dillion is a clown
Typical pollie - leave clarifying information unsaid to allow people to make the wrong assumption that best suits him

Even better, send the Jellybacks to Alice Springs to play the final.

If it's good enough for the Vics, it's good enough for us - problem solved.
