1. Some candidates ‘withdrew’ but not all. (And we weren’t privy to the behind the scenes conversations with those possible applicants which led to them not applying.)

2. Could you please expand on ‘they didn’t want to work with Pyke’?
Specifics please.
The two main ones to withdraw were Cox and Hansen. Given Cox's underwhelming start and Hansen's Blues looking like a bottom 4 team, I'm very happy neither of them got near our coach's box.

It’s really the only logical inference. What other reason could there be for top candidates not applying?

Other than, you know, they’d take over a basket case of a list, they’d have to move across the country, they’d have the entire glare of the Perth fishbowl on them…

Word from my club insider is that Mini has a much harder edge to him than Simmo. Was livid with the effort last week and let the players know it.

He is also apparently different to Simmo in that a player with a minor injury who thinks they are right to play has a much harder job of convincing him to put them on the parkt. Whereas if the player told Simmo they were OK to play he would by and large just let them even if the medicos didn't always agree.

Granted, the second one doesn't ring true given Waterman last week. But who knows what the medicos said.

That's good to hear.

Waterman has a disc bulge. I've had a minor one and my mate had a major one. What's hard with them is that you can feel good and be performing in training, but then it flares up and you're stuck. Scans don't help much either, backs can look rooted n a scan but you can perform fine, or they look good but you get the nerve pain.

There are only two treatments: to wait for your body to absorb the bulge or to have surgery and have it shaved (but surgery as many risks of complications, so it's a last resort). My mate had the surgery but it was a long recovery.

caution with discs, finished my career

No one on our list is shifting the needle significantly in this game, if we get within 10 goals of Brisbane that’s a win. That’s not the issue.

There’s other outcomes of selection, such as (a) demonstrating to senior players that there’s consequences for horrible performances and (b) investing games into youngsters with an eye on the future.

Unless Allan makes the final cut, which i doubt, we’ve done neither of those things this week.
Exactly this, well said.

Mini did say in the presser about Waterman the scans showed nothing and he was trained and did all the prep for last weeks game. Sounds like it was referred pain from his back now which is a bit of a bitch when you initially don't know or realize what it is or where it's coming from.
