Everytime Naughton takes a mark this season Hine needs to have a shot

I think you’re really overrating Hine’s kicking. I reckon Naughton would be pretty crapped off to miss out on those opportunities, too. The other team might not even bother complaining that Derek Hine keeps running out on to the field during Western Bulldogs games.

If we finish with a top 4 pick it will be a huge decision as to whether we'd want to use it at the draft or use it to get McDonald. Knowing Sydney they'd want the top pick and more.

Him and Hill would be great gets. The other huge hole we have is a KPD
A lot would depend on how McDonald looks this year vs how much the top KPF prospects show in their respective competitions. As you note, I doubt Sydney let him go for cheap.

Yeah how handy would a Patton, Hogan, Boyd, McCartin, Wright, Schache, Logue or a Fogarty be right now.

I bet Essendon and us are wrapt that Daniher and Moore turned out to be such gun forwards as well...

Half of them would be better then what we have.

Moore could of easily been a gun fwd.

Daniher is a gun that they fell out with.

I would rather us draft and bust here and there then over spend both in cap and trade capital and still potentially only have an average one.

Trading for a McDonald at his stage of career is no better then going to the draft in terms of knowing his output. You are still largely going off potential.

You won't get him for a solitary pick 4.

This draft has some genuine kpp talent on offer just for once in well over a decade bite the bullet!

Go watch some of his highlights think you may have forgotten. Don't you remember that Anxac Day goal>

Who is currently better?

Who averages the most goals per game out of the three of them?

He plays a different game to the other 2!
He is a lead and mark type as his bread and butter who can crumb when needed.

To call him a specialist small crumbing forward when he (and faz for that matter) played predominantly as leading forwards is taking the piss.

Its like calling Darling a crumbing fwd.

More to the point, he doesn't position himself to crumb very often. He tries to separate and get hit on the lead. He's awesome, but plays as a medium forward target.

But he is not currently and has not played as a small crumbing forward.

To compare his role and game style to Davis and Didak are poles apart.

I view it a bit differently. Take the Hawks getting Buddy and Roughhead with two picks - fabulous drafting, but they also spent two pick 6s on Dowler and Mitch Thorp. They absolutely nailed it - but it didn't take them two top draft picks on KPFS to get their 2 star KPFs - it took them 4, which was a fantastic result because the two were so awesome. Gold Coast are looking at 2 good KPFs from about 8 picks. GWS - not good stats. Most clubs don't have good stats in this regard, but haven't taken that many because the expansion clubs swept up all the early ones.

It's changed a bit with clubs realising this and thus less and less KPFs are going really early, so the stats will be skewing back towards them becoming better value again. Overall though, I wouldn't go in thinking that one early pick is going to get you one quality KPF - In the long run, I think you'll continue to have to pay more than one early pick per quality KPF. But during recent history, two early picks for one quality KPF has actually been good value compared with what it's cost in early picks used in the draft.

Your leaving out the other side of it and that's cap space as well as teams who didn't have to hit up the draft as much to land one.

Also I think recruiters didn't help themselves as they changed what they looked for in a KPF busts went much higher they went away from physical types to outside beanpole who could also ruck.

GC have actually had some half decent kpf talent they like most kpp struggle in a start up team and poor side.

Even their traded out talent is doing well, Port Dixon and Ess Wright both doing well.

Day is decent chf and king will be a gun.

Lukosious would be a gun fwd but they have the luxury of "Moore-ing" him.

Imo you also need to judge what is available in each draft we all know they vary wildly in talent even as top picks.
Dipping at the right/wrong time can either have you languish or picking up a premiership team. Dusty/Petracca etc vs M.Murphy.
Whilst Murphy was a good player he was never a difference maker type.
Same applies to Kpp talent and each draft hence your Hawks 03 and 04 drafts.
