Alternatively...

Yes, there is a difference between a reason and an excuse:

Reason
A logical explanation or justification for an action or event. It's a stimulus that causes something to happen, and it's a way to help others understand what happened.

Excuse
A pretense or subterfuge that's used to deflect blame or justify bad behavior. It's often an attempt to avoid or remove censure.
I knew you wouldn’t be able to leave it there. Keep pretending it’s different and you have moral high ground if you want. idc

If it was Geelong it would be known as great list management.
Nope it’s crap list management. In each case it’s a player with a contract for next year who would be cut completely if the re-contracting club had waited until the end of the year or not put in place a games trigger.

That said the outrage is ridiculous from most punters because the pathway has changed out of sight the past 25 years since the rookie list was first introduced. The type of project that used to be on the initial rookie list is now being caught earlier as an NGA so they’re receiving the opportunities that were once denied to them and the alternative pathway guys go on the Cat B list. Basically the old school rookie is now more often than not getting picked up in the national draft.

I’m an advocate of increasing list sizes to 45-50 and doing away with the Cat A and B rookie list, but keeping in place an alternative pathway for internationals and the likes of Condon or Parker to make the transition back to the elite pathway as easy as possible by sidestepping the draft. By lifting list sizes you can also hopefully grow the talent pool ahead of the introduction of the Devils. You watch though list sizes will remain as is, clubs will lose players and everyone will bemoan a lack of talent…

Just bring him home

They're different. In this situation, an "excuse" means it's all AJs fault and we're looking for something else to blame.

I reckon it's a bit of both. He played badly because despite the pyrotechnics, he just doesn't have the game to perform any role in our team. But then he definitely went into a downward spiral, probably connected to abuse.

What happened to Ash was a lot worse than that, and from Pies fans. Not surprising he lost the desire to play footy.

I’m not justifying his poor performances, but trying to better understand them.

If even half of what I heard was true, I’m surprised he didn’t pack up and leave. Some of our more moronic fans were involved - and we have a few.

At any rate, his career is over and it would probably be best for him to be delisted. No doubt the club are trying to figure this out.
Problem on Social Media the ones that I seen/heard the most are the Idiots

Hawthorn already praised for Gunston going on their rookie list.

I like the idea of a rookie but for genuine rookies. Surely once you play a certain number of games you should not be able to be placed on a rookie list?

Wow, you really are the big man in town.

Did you just stink out your cave and came out for air?
Your comment reminds me of someone which happened in Singapore a few years ago. We went into a tailor shop to get something made up. If you know anything about Singapore, many of the tailors are of Indian descent. This chap who was attending to us was rather large in girth and while he was talking we encountered a horrid stench. It was foul and pungent. We expressed our dismay and left the shop to stand outside waiting for it to subside. It was so frightful that the guy who we had been speaking to and had cut the mustard, also had to leave the shop and stood next to us outside, shaking his head at his own emission.

i don't think thats an excuse. There wouldn't be anyone that can handle unwarranted criticism and vitriol well.

The criticism is an unwanted unchangeable part of any sports/celebrity's career. It shouldn't be considered part of the job. It doesnt make you less of a person if it impacts you though. I dont think that amounts to your worth on society by being impacted by it.

You are right he shouldn't let it get to him. He needs to somehow use it as an inspiration to make himself the best he can be. Not to prove them wrong , but to make his mindset better. At least if he doesn't make it , he can say he gave it a crack.
I have read articles on people like Robbie Muir who was scarred for life due to the crap which was levelled at him Sometimes it is just too much for a person to bear

I’ll take that as it’s been made up on big footy as an excuse for him.
Remaining steadfast, despite the clear evidence to the contrary, based on experience of past players - together with warnings by the AFL and Mental Professionals of the impact of Social Media, reeks of egregious obstinacy.
You are wrong, notwithstanding your illogical defiance.
