We should aim to play good footy first. Jordy’s contract is the least of our worries.
So… the last game wasn’t “good footy”?
First time on a looooong time we kicked 100 plus.
First time in a loooooong time we played WATCHABLE footy.
It may be based on one outing, but my god it was the most enjoyable night of footy I’ve seen in a long, long time.

I don't get why it's an issue - he's been allowed back on the club and in the best 22, he's said he wants to stay with the pies.

Fine.

But like every other player at the club he has to earn his spot - 1 game doesn't cut it - let's see how he's going after the bye.

Reckon he’ll be our best and most influential player by years end. No one else on the list gets close to 30ish touches and 5 shots on goal.

Sign him up now while he’s still on the nose. Even a first round compo is only likely to replace the pick we originally got him for, then we run the risk of that pick being another Scharenberg, and we also have to wait 5 years to find out…

Bird in the hand. A ****ing talented bird.

I honestly couldn’t care less if he gets in fights in the off-season, the hand-wringing and moralising baffles me for what have been a series of pretty low-grade offences. I’m far more interested in what he does on the field.

I wouldn't sign him right at this moment, but to defuse any speculation, and if the club want him to stay, which l believe they do, l would be looking to sign him in the next 8 to 10 weeks.
His manager has stated he wants to stay at the Pies, loves the club and feels indebted to them. I also think Fly's comments after the Saints game about JDG, "I think with Jordy, everyone sort of judges him for things he's done in the past. I don't have scar tissue with Jordy, I judge him on things I know of him"
I believe Jordy would love to have read or heard that from his coach, and l think he will let the club set the terms on his next contract, whilst still getting a fair and reasonable contract figure offer.

Interesting little article regarding Jords in the HS. I guess, first of many trying to bump his price up.

Pure Footy: David King, Daniel Hoyne lift lid on AFL trends, stats after round 1

He is maligned by some but Jordan De Goey’s numbers stack up against the very best in the game as he prepares to qualify for free agency. See the amazing stats.

Christian Petracca is widely acknowledged as the best player in the competition right now.
But a Collingwood star is almost matching Petracca’s numbers, without the recognition.

In the first episode for 2022 of Pure Footy – the weekly analysis show exclusive to heraldsun.com.au – Champion Data analyst Daniel Hoyne said that since round 13 last season Petracca is averaging just 1.8 more disposals (30.6 v 28.8), 1.7 inside-50s (6.7 to 5.0), and one score involvement (8.7 to 7.7) than Jordan De Goey, while the pair break even on 1.6 score assists per game.

De Goey is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the season. He is expected to command close to $1 million a year in his next deal and Hoyne said he was worth every cent – at Collingwood or another club.

“Since the halfway mark of last year his numbers, for the position that he plays, are incredible,” Hoyne said.

“I’m not saying write your own ticket, but if Jordan De Goey comes and asks to be on $800,000 or whatever it might be, I’m signing it right here, right now.

“Think back to the last half a dozen finals series, who are the ones that have stood up, especially on grand final day? Goalkicking mids are what win you finals.

“The last two years 35 per cent of the time he’s involved in a chain, Collingwood score. That’s the third-best percentage of any midfielder or mid-forward in the competition. You pay big bucks for that.”
North Melbourne premiership champion David King said players who could make an impact like De Goey are hard to find.

“Every club in the competition would be going after Jordan De Goey. He’s every bit a 900,000 a year player. Collingwood may not way to play him that, but other clubs will, and they’ll give him a long-term deal, there’s no doubt about that.
“They’ll be coming from everywhere.”

All i ask for is that this be assessed and treated as a football matter -- no hand-wringing about the past, no moral posturing, no projecting about the impact on the club's brand.
So we just block it out?

Okay

Firstly he is bloody lucky not to have been convicted of criminal charges twice and have his football career taken away from him.

Secondly he is the classic hot and cold player - when he's on look out but when he's not where they fck is he?

Thirdly at his best he is sensational and it's the coaching staff's mission to get him near his best much more often.

Essentially, yes. He's paid / is paying his dues for past issues. To the extent there's a risk of repetition, you cover that with a broad good behaviour clause in the next contract, if there is one.
I don't see how trust can be re-established if past transgressions are held over his head going forward.
Everything else is for assessment on a football basis.

I don't think there will be trust - essentially there have been too many incidents.

Anyway back to football matters - he's a bloody talented footballer with focus issues.

It's up to the coaching staff to help him find his focus.

This thread is pretty much a wishtimator.

Free agency at the end of this year he will go.

I think it's hilarious that the same posters who were so intent to get rid of him, just won't let it go, no matter what the evidence.

How he is considered "lucky" not to be convicted of two fabricated sets of allegations/charges (that were dropped) is a mind boggler.

It seems more that he is unlucky for them to have ever been brought in the first place and instead he got some vindication when they were later pulled. I wouldn't call that luck.

You also have to laugh at the numpties on here that were posting that he's worth $400k a year.

If you are at or near the top contributors of a particular player thread, and your sentiment is to get rid of said player, it's probably time to question your life choices.

My issue with Jordy is that he keeps finding himself in sticky situations. Regardless of whether he did or not, he should never have been in some of the things he has been. The problem with JDG attached to your brand is the media just pump out crap. Other issue is he goes missing. At his best, he's great. At his worst, he's barely noteworthy.

He hasn't gone missing in a single game since he reappeared in the midfield last year.

And despite all the talk about him being a wasted talent due to his off-field exploits - the consistency is because he's done a heap of work voluntarily in the last two off-seasons. He's ready to be one of the league's dominant players.

He’s not playing or looking like someone who wants out of the club.I think he’ll stay,as long as the club wants him of course.
